When you want the bugs shot directly into your face
If only we still had bugs.
But we don't, and that should fucking terrify everybody.
If only more people used redneck air conditioning. And I'm not kidding I'm going to school for HVAC cause I don't want to starve in the street. Do y'all understand how bad this shit is?? It was supposed to be a medical device and y'all mofos set that shit to 65 to sleep. I'm not bougie and I understand that the 1% does most of the polluting but we need to change how we live
Problem is, I moved somewhere cold so I wouldn't have to run the AC, and now summers here are just as hot as they were where I grew up. I can't take the heat but it seems to be following me wherever I go.
Whole house fans need to make a comeback. Our house was built in the 1920s and has one from the early 60's before AC was common and I love that fucking thing. We still have some window AC units for really hot days or days when its hot and raining but it cuts WAAAAY down on how often we actually end up using them. Still uses some power obviously but nowhere near as much from what I can tell, and that's a 60 odd year old one.
In practice, with a normal amount of bugs it doesn't really happen
The inside of the intake gets dirty as fuck.

Beyond the moderate dubiousness of the intended mechanism here, if that thing isn't somehow strapped down or secured beyond being nestled into the half rolled up window, that could very easily come ajar from significant braking or accelerating.
I can't tell you how many times I've been in cars where the driver just piles loose shit all over their dash, or has a fucking chandelier attached to their rearview mirror, which have come loose and hit people in the face or gotten wedged in some wonky position, and this has lead to an actual or near car accident.
It rolling off the dash is the least of people's problems. Depending on the location it might just get launched into your face at 100 miles an hour by an airbag deploying.
Whenever I see people with their feet up on the dash I know they have never seen a person after an air bag has hit them .
Yeah, who doesn't want hot and humid air blowing in their face on a hot and humid day?
Don't forget about the bugs! Bees and wasps, funnelled right at your face. Pure, car crash convenience.
I'll be honest. I think insects are either learning not to go around roads or there are way fewer insects. I can't remember the last time I had a bug on my windshield
The insect apocalypse is real.
Every gas station used to carry bug-b-gone to get the guts off your windshield and headlights.
We're something like 75% down seasonally and 80% down midsummer since 2000.
I hate bugs but it makes me sad for the critters that eat bugs because they're generally awesome and cute.
Yes, the insects have been getting smarter, avoiding roads and living happy lives on lush meadows without disturbing us.
That's the reality I chose to believe in!
They have all gone to live happily on a farm.

Real easy to slap some wire mesh in there and let it filter out the bugs

I miss these. There's many a day that i wish I had one of these vents on my work van
When I had a Volkswagen, I called it, “180-60 air conditioning.” Flip it 180° and drive 60 mph.
Funny enough my dad used to mention about 4*80 ac in the car for similar reasons, which makes me wonder if there where a lot of speeding tickets at the time.

I've often thought that ~~wing mirrors~~ quarter glass should make a comeback. We must have solved the whistling problem by now.
In the janky old vehicles I had back when that was a thing I would do stuff like smear some heavy grease on the edge to block the wind. Bottom dollar cars get bottom dollar fixes.

My sister had a Plymouth Duster with little flaps under the dash that you could open to vent in some air from the outside.
The faster you go, the cooler you are. And also cooler.
They could just remove the front and rear windshields and wear goggles.
This cannot be good for your fuel efficiency.
Neither are other methods of air conditioning/circulation.
man my old Cruze dropped about 1/3 of its power efficiency if you wanted to use AC while trying to get up to speed and merge on the highway
gotta cut the cooling to engage the afterburners
I still do that in my fiesta. Easier than kicking out a passenger
At least your fiesta gets up that fast. I had an old tempo. when I got up to 50 it rattled so bad. One time, I was very fortunate no one was behind me and it was a country road with very little traffic, because at 55 the rear passenger door fucking fell off. I was so mad I almost left the door there, but I popped it back on the hinge, latched it shut, locked the door, broke the lock knob so no one would ever open it again, and then duct taped the thing on as best I could.
I did not go on a lot of dates when I drove that car.
There's something reassuring to me about hacks like this (also standard Tempo experience?). Borrowed a friend's truck last week and he have me a list of things that might seem like problems but not to worry about
As a geek, I want to refer to this as transferring life support to main engines.
