I don't do "batch cooking" per se, but often cook something larger on saturday/sunday so I have leftover, either for Monday/thuesday lunch or for when coming back from sport, keeping food 2-3 in the fridge doesn't worry me (Obviously, I am not gonna keep a tartare so long in the frige, and don't even cook meat). Things start to be more worrysome when I still have leftover on Wednesday/Thursday. yesterday night I threw away some beans from Saturday I started to have a doubt.

So my question is basically

  • How to optimize food preservation in the fridge (I have a small fridge with a very small freezer compartment, in winter when the temperature doesn't get above 5 degree I can use my balcony for extra space, but it's already over)

  • Is there a guideline on how long which kind of food can last in a regular fridge ?

I was just wondering how the US (or any country really) can pull out 100 billion on a given occasion ? Is the treasury just "printing" more money, or are taxes raised? (let's say 200million Americans are active, that's still $500 per person) . Or is it just debt passed on to future generations? It goes without saying that I am not fluent in finance

I have some Gnome extensions that are great but also have some bloatware that I’ve accumulated over the years.

Is it worth wiping the drive and doing a fresh install for Fedora 40?

I know there's occasionally some backlash to reviews that go against a broader positive reception to some media, but do that many people still follow reviews to decide what to check out?

Adjusted title to specify "entertainment media"

I must admit I have no deep knowledge of stuttering, but I always thought it was a psychological thing. So if you teach someone a sign language, will they continue stuttering? On the same note, are there native sign language speakers who stutter?

I'm taking my first international flight this year. I've got my passport and bought the plane tickets. However, I noticed that my middle name on the ticket is missing the last 2 letters. I contacted the airline and they said that middle name doesn't have to match passport. I just want to make sure that is correct, I don't want to get stuck at some airport because my middle name is missing 2 letters on the plane tickets.

I love fantasy, but fantasy series are kind of nefarious for some... problems.

Series that drag on to reach an arbitrary number, creating a number of filler books. (8/9/10 of a certain series comes to mind for "filler books" )

Series that keep going for so long and lose the thread, straight up making what happened in previous books seem silly and irrelevant.

Books that vary wildly in quality (book 10, shout out to you again)

Series that aren't finished (GRRM fans, you might get your books if he lives long enough. King Killer chronicle fans... I'm sorry, but the author is dead even if the man remains).

I just really wanna try a bunch of fantasy standalone novels from different authors. But I can't for the life of me find a website that'll let me do that. Amazon will say after clicking on it "book 1 of x", so like the information is there, but I can't find any website that let's me search for it. I can find websites that list like "Top x standalone novels of the year" but those are usually really click baity.

"Finished series only" filter would be sick as well.

Anyone have any ideas?

I suck at spelling and would like to know a word I have typed is wrong or not. Ideally with a red underline.

I really struggle looking at text I have written and seeing the mistakes. I have tried Samsung, openboard, gboard. None seem to fix the issue.

I'm willing to download anything as long as it's not a privacy concern. Is there any way to get what I want.

I have a Samsung 22+ if that makes a difference

Glenrambo fixed it:

Settings > General Management > Language > Spelling Correction > Default spell checker.

I'm thinking in the U.S. and Canada. For example, if you're on vacation, you've checked out of your hotel room and have several hours until your flight, and you have some cans of beer left over. I know you could sneakily drink them in a park or something, but I'm just curious if there's any way to do it that's legal.

I listen to a decent amount of audiobooks and I'll occasionally miss a one-off description of something important. I was wondering if there are projects to add a visual component to audiobooks? Official or fan-made it doesn't matter. If it does exist what would I search for to find something like this?

Maybe a video with AI generated images and the listener is required to supply their own audiobook or something like that.

I feel like I have seen this done with the Bible several times.

Edit: It seems like the answer is no.

People have suggested movies, VNs, and point and click games but that's more than what I am after. All I really want is something that accompanies the audio that can occasionally act as a quick reference. If you are still have trouble imagining what I am talking about think of an audio-only podcast that is uploaded to Youtube. They might add a photo in post to accompany what they are talking about but you can still enjoy it without the visual aspect.

I thought there might be a group of people on Youtube doing this with AI images or an audiobook publisher commissioning art to do this.

I am trying to cut out Reddit from my life but I'm always ending up re-installing it because I simply don't know what do with my time. We have two small kids (1y and 3y) so I can't simply just read more, train more, play games, watch TV, etc.

It's rather.. Reddit filled those small micro breaks I get throughout the day. When I have a few minutes on my own when my wife has the kids.

Lemmy is nice but it's just not enough content to fill this need. I have been thinking about Blinkist or reading something lighter on my phone (something which is easy to take a break from whenever).

I read that the police were extinguishing the guy who set himself on fire yesterday only two minutes after it began. Obviously, the guy did not want to live. Putting out the fire so quickly does not ease his suffering and would only increase it if he were to live. As long as nothing else is at risk of catching fire perhaps it would be best to stay away. What do you think?

I know Congress needs to be involved to actually declare war, but there have been a number of times where something was kicked off by presidential authority alone.

If Biden wanted to, could he start a conflict against Russia without congressional approval. If not, what approval would he need? If so, what would be the theoretical limitations to his power and military authority?

I am already assuming people would want some definition of what "conflict" would mean in this hypothetical scenario. So let's say it means Biden authorized US troops at the Ukrainian border and had them launching shells into Russia.

I use the location tracking of Google Maps/Google Timeline constantly for work, and it's exceedingly helpful to know when I was at certain cities, buildings, etcetera. Of course, this means I'm basically signing my soul away to Google. But I can't really find any alternative location tracking apps, even though I would have thought there would be lots available. Are there any good alternatives out there?

The closest I found was Owntracks, but it doesn't work for me for a couple of reasons. Primarily, it doesn't tell me the places I've been, only the latitude/longitude. That isn't helpful. I want to know I was at X or Y convenience store and when my last visit was. Secondly of course, the interface was extremely lacking and I didn't like that it was split across two websites and an app. Why even have a map in the Android app if it doesn't show my location data??

I have old Facebook and Twitter accounts, maybe some others. I'm old so there's a MySpace account out there. But I've mostly been using reddit the last decade or so, and have migrated to Lemmy. Now, Lemmy is the only social media i use. Recent news got me thinking about this question.
