Resigning from the 119th congress is essentially an admission of guilt at this point. Whatever is in that report will most likely remain sealed as long as he has the cover of being a private citizen once again, which is why he turned these two opportunities down - to keep the evidence of his wrongdoing under wraps so he can't be held accountable by either the public or the justice department.

So, Matt Gaetz is a pedophile and a child molester. And knowing the state of our shitty fucking country he's probably going to get away with it.

[–] Draces 3 points 34 minutes ago

I'm hoping against everything else that Johnson will stop protecting him because he's now not worth anything to them now and isn't worth the political capital to protect 🤞

[–] sarcasticsunrise 31 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Alright Marjorie Trailer-Queen, time to nut up (🤮 sorry) and leak (it keeps getting worse) that incriminating info about your fellow GOPedo colleagues that you were so brazen about earlier

[–] pelican7663 8 points 27 minutes ago

She never had any intention of releasing anything. She was trying to keep the Gaetz report from coming out.

[–] peopleproblems 23 points 2 hours ago (4 children)

Weird. Either there's a 4D chess move here, or Trump doesn't have full control of the GOP like he wants.

That's going to cause problems.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 hour ago

Or Gaetz is hoping that no further details from the ethics report leak, and he can salvage his career after this blows over. If it ever does that is.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 hours ago

I don't think the GOP was honestly expecting him to win.

[–] Maggoty 3 points 1 hour ago

It's the second. Gaetz was way too inflammatory for the lesser evil tactic.

[–] jj4211 1 points 1 hour ago

Or it's going to prevent some of the problems...

[–] HootinNHollerin 2 points 58 minutes ago (1 children)

Hopefully DeSantis doesn’t pick him to replace Marco Rubio's senate seat

[–] pelican7663 3 points 26 minutes ago

If that happens, then they should release the report. At a bare minimum, he should never hold public office again.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 hour ago

Huh. I would have thought they left him in, even if it was as a lightning rod to attract attention while the other nominees all got through.

Must have been he didn't want to be questioned too much.

[–] inclementimmigrant 28 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

I mean okay, I mean Trump will just pick something worse. I'm more disappointed that Democrats didn't grow a spine and just release the house report on Gatez.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 42 minutes ago* (last edited 42 minutes ago)

He's already announced his next pick. It's Carole Baskin

/S

[–] TunaCowboy 25 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I'm more disappointed that Democrats didn't grow a spine

So you are perpetually disappointed, got it.

[–] inclementimmigrant 18 points 3 hours ago

Yeah, pretty much.

[–] HorreC 160 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

not so quick, maybe you are running from something, we should look into that. We wouldnt wanna spend all that tax payer money on nothing.

[–] ATDA 48 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Whack the mole now so it doesn't show up somewhere else.

Please don't nominate him for anything else. He resigned from Congress. This could be incredibly hilarious.

Edit: and if any Democrat on the ethics committee doesn't leak the report they should all be primaried and removed from their posts.

[–] cAUzapNEAGLb 72 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Note that while he resigned from this current Congress, he did get reelected to the next Congress, so he'll still be a US rep in Florida once the session starts in late January. Just kind of an extended two month vacation really.

[–] dhork 84 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe not, according to https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/11/21/us/trump-gaetz-news/5e296b83-bf2f-50cc-96b8-5049b764b8a9?smid=url-share:

Absent extraordinary events, we do not expect to see Gaetz back in the House next Congress. When he submitted his resignation to the House last week after being tapped for attorney general, he wrote: “I do not intend to take the oath of office for the same office in the 119th Congress.”

It is always possible that Gaetz can invoke the ancient privilege of "SIKE!!!!" And take it all back. But then the ethics report will get released....

[–] fluxion 30 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Unfortunately for him I mumbled "no takesies backsies" when he resigned so that's off the table

[–] dhork 10 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Ah, but did Mike Johnson have his fingers crossed when he accepted Beavis's resignation?

Wouldn't that mean the house investigation can be resumed? I don't think he wants that.

Aww this clickbait headline got me, I thought he was withdrawing from life :(

Oh well now that he's not in contest as a nominee I guess no media is stopping him from taking any office.

Roadblock cleared! Sephiroth him.

[–] Ghostalmedia 18 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I forget who on the NPR politics podcast said that he would get pushed out in backroom conversations, and not on the floor of the house, she nailed it.

They don't want the public drama and infighting, because it makes them look even more incompetent. If they're going to push you out, they're going to do it behind closed doors.

So, which clown is next? RFK, the WWE lady, Doctor Oz?

[–] Today 10 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I heard that on the radio yesterday. They said they expected two or possibly three to withdraw because Orange Dipshit will never admit that he was wrong in choosing them.

[–] spongebue 7 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

I would imagine someone has a file on Tulsi that she wouldn't want to get out. Things are not going great for Hegseth either. Unfortunately I think our physical education curriculum will be disproportionately based on wrestling and CMS will be run by a TV doctor

[–] pelican7663 1 points 17 minutes ago

She's the one I'm most concerned about, because she could do massive damage in that position. Hegseth is a clown, and I don't think he'll figure out how to do much of anything in DoD, and will be quietly replaced in 6-12 months.

[–] Today 4 points 2 hours ago

I'm not a reasonable person, but I play one on TV. Oh, wait, nope, not there either.

[–] spankmonkey 45 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (9 children)

Gotta be something big to quit congress after being reelected and then decline the cabinet nomination used to justify pulling out.

This sounds like something serious. Someone should search his couches!

[–] arin 3 points 51 minutes ago* (last edited 50 minutes ago)

Matt Gaetz hiding more underaged sex crimes we don't know about

[–] Maggoty 4 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Paying minors for sex is hard time in prison. If evidence of such a thing became public the DOJ would essentially be forced to prosecute him. Right now they can just ignore it. Which they prefer to do because they like being employed.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 39 minutes ago* (last edited 38 minutes ago)

Is it hard time in prison though? He trafficked them across state lines, meaning it goes to a federal court which makes it eligible for pardon

I could be wrong, but I thought it went federal soon as it crosses the border

[–] UnderpantsWeevil 39 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (2 children)

He quit to end the Congressional investigation. Was on his way out one way or another. This was just his attempt to fall upwards.

Maybe they'll add him to the DOGE roster after this. You can fuck all the teenagers you want over there and nobody will complain

How many Scaramuccis was that?

[–] SlippiHUD 70 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

Scaramucci actually got the job, so it's probably negative Scaramucci's

He held the nomination for .8 Scaramuccis, and was fired 6.2 Scaramuccis before his earliest possible hire date.

Edit: Did Scaramucci math

[–] [email protected] 32 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

Eighty centimooches. Great job, Gaetz!

[–] SlippiHUD 7 points 4 hours ago

Metric Mooches, the most disgraceful measurement of time.

He REALLY does not want that ethics probe released. Which means we absolutely should.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

My conspiracy theory is that he wasn't a serious contender for AG. He got the nom which allowed him to resign from Congress. This forced the ethics committee to stop investigating him because he was no longer a member.

While he was a contender for AG, the Senate pushed for the release of materials anyway. Gaetz withdrawals from consideration, making the report moot.

This has Bannon written all over it.
