I grew up with classmates named Autumn, April, and December (she went by DeeDee). I had a co-worker named June. I've known of kids named Summer, January, Augustus, and September. But none of them picked these names; it was the parents who identified them as months or seasons!

(And yes obviously the Fox story is beyond stupid)

[–] danc4498 7 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Did they personify their season/month?

“I feel more masculine in the summertime. I wear more masculine clothing, I wear shorts. I normally have my hair up more and I just feel more ‘boy’, whereas in the winter – for some reason – girl mode comes out and I’m loving skirts and dresses and having my hair down.”

This is from a video that the Fox story is about. Fox totally missed the point, I’m guessing intentionally so.

But can we talk about that statement for a second? (I’m leftist af and I strongly believe trans people should be able to do whatever the fuck they want, just like everybody else; this has nothing to do with that.) I’m having a hard time accepting this statement.

I would obviously never support the misogynistic belief that women should (only) wear skirts/dresses. But as it turns out, the idea that dresses and long hair are inherently feminine (or that shorts and short hair are inherently masculine) also makes me uncomfortable. I recognize that a lot of people see it that way, but I don’t think that makes it right, or a belief that should continue to propagate.

I’m a dude, and I hope to see a day where I can grow out my hair and wear a dress without people assuming it means anything about me beyond that I like dresses and long hair.

(Please let me know if this is insensitive and I will remove my comment. I’m not interested in starting an unproductive or hateful discussion here)

People working at Fox News are probably still taking/passing around Buzzfeed quizzes to find out which season they are

[–] danc4498 10 points 6 months ago

My nephew identifies as a hufflepuff. What’s this world coming to!

[–] [email protected] 58 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Probably met two girls named Autumn and Summer and got triggered or something

[–] [email protected] 15 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I knew a girl named Winter.

Why the fuck would people even have a problem with that? The lead poisoned generation which believes in jesus the crucified zombie telling everyone that THEY have a mental illness. I just wish conservatives would disappear.

[–] Zefjor 23 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Come now, let's say it how it really is: Jesus is very clearly a lich!

Probably stumbled on a makeup tutorial and got confused hearing someone being called an "Autumn" or "Winter" and ran with it.

[–] Fedizen 52 points 6 months ago

fox news lying?

[–] RememberTheApollo_ 52 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (9 children)

Summer and Autumn get used as girl’s names ~1,200 per million and ~2,000 per million per year since the 1970s or so. “Fall” is only about 3 per million, “Winter” takes off with Game of Thrones TV show around 2011 leading to 600 per million, but was in use since the 70s to the tune of about 70-100 per mil.

(source: babycenter, but I’m not linking that ad-riddled excuse for a website)

Parents have been identifying their kids as seasons for decades.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil 14 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Don't forget all the kids named after months.

January Jones was a famous actress for a minute. November Kelly is a popular podcaster. April, May, and June are all common girl's names.

Parents have been identifying their kids as seasons for decades.

Try millennia. You can find people named after months and seasons going back to antiquity. Hell, many of the months/seasons themselves were originally the names of ancient mythological gods and heroes.

*for entertainment purposes only, characters and events are entirely fictional.

[–] [email protected] 32 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (2 children)

Wasn’t there a court case where they themselves argued only an idiot would take anything said there as true, and won?

[–] [email protected] 17 points 6 months ago

They know their user base well.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 6 months ago

"Fox" News. There's actually very little news about foxes on that network.

[–] FlyingSquid 41 points 6 months ago (12 children)

Oh my god, so what if they were? Why do they care? Let people be who they want to be. If you tell me, "I'm not a woman, I'm an autumn," I might think that's silly, but if that's what you want me to call you, fine. It doesn't hurt anyone, it doesn't exploit anyone, there's no harm in it at all.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I'd love to know if anyone who actually cares about this feels similarly about horoscopes or Meyers-Briggs assessments, two other completely fabricated ways of classifying people.

My Trumper father used to complain about things like choosing your gender being made up. It's all made up, dad! We literally make everything up, just some dipshits gatekeep what make believe is acceptable or not.

[–] FlyingSquid 9 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I just hate that regular old common courtesy is not considered the baseline anymore.

Their entire business model is drumming up culture war bullshit to keep people distracted from the fact they're losing the class war.

[–] Dvixen 30 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I think he got his mom's color palettes mixed in with his derp.

(Mostly older) People have been claiming they were a summer or autumn for decades.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I've run across a number of women named Summer and Autumn in my life, as well.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 6 months ago

Those are the communists trying to destroy our nation from within.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 6 months ago

They made it up.

Of course they made it up, it's Fox News, what do you expect?

[–] Sterile_Technique 23 points 6 months ago

Even taking it at face value, who cares?

Kids do dumb shit. Always have, always will.

If identifying as seasons gets the creative juices flowing or gives them a harmless source of entertainment, then more power to em.

[–] TropicalDingdong 22 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

I didn't even know that was an option..

I'm identifying as paprika. But smoked paprika, not that basic ass egg flavoring.

"My source is that I made it the fuck up"

[–] [email protected] 18 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Conservatives are so fucking boring. The ones I’m forced to interact with talk about politics at a massively inflated rate compared to anyone else. It’s always shit that makes them angry too, like the only joy you can get out of life is righteous indignation.

Privileged white fuckers are the last people who have any right to be righteously indignant over anything right now, and that’s the majority of conservatives in America.

Their base loves the weirdest entertainment.

Do you really think they would do that? Just go on their entertainment show and tell lies?

[–] AncientFutureNow 16 points 6 months ago

Oh you sweet summer child? 🤣

[–] anhydrous 15 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

My dad was tricked with the "cat litter box" made-up moral panic. SMN has an episode on it (can't remember which one), but some people are too far gone to admit they've been deceived by made-up fox news.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Gone out of bullshit to create class warfare?

I hate how Fux News describes Greg Gutfeld as the leader in late night. I mean, there are probably enough psychos out there watching that network to drive up those numbers, but Gutfeld is the same shit Fox News gives you in the daytime, with a light coating of late night talk show trappings.

[–] FlyingSquid 7 points 6 months ago

I hate more how they describe him as a comedian.

Smirking while you say something offensive or outrageous isn't comedy, it's just being an asshole.

[–] Daft_ish 14 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Fox News. What a fucking turd. A bunch of people you wouldn't want to spend 5 minutes with telling you shit that makes no sense and lieing straight to your face to make you angry. No wonder trolls are so prevalent. Republicans worship them.

[–] ToAllPointsWest 10 points 6 months ago

This is going to be really awkward when they run into all the girls named Summer and Autumn

[–] [email protected] 10 points 6 months ago

Identifying as a season? That's almost as ridiculous as identifying as the position of the stars and planets at your birth! You know, that thing that apparently millions of people actually do do. Maybe Fox should go after astrology. That might be a cause worth pursuing.

Heheheh. I said "do do".

[–] RizzRustbolt 9 points 6 months ago

I'm an autumn.

[–] cultsuperstar 8 points 6 months ago

Fox News is in the business of making their viewers hate everyone else.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I'll probably be in the minority, since this is Lemmy after all, but how is this "news"?

This is basically: reporter I hate said something I hate.

Is this Jesse's regular MO? Yes.

Is Jesse garbage? Yes.

Is this news? No.

[–] jeffw 12 points 6 months ago (4 children)

I was just telling my wife how the real news I post doesn’t get upvotes and that the clickbait-y half-assed news gets all the attention…
