At what point does a set of stairs become a wall? How thin can steps be before they are no longer considered steps?
hmmm
For things that are "hmmm".
Rule 1: All post titles except for meta posts should be just plain "hmmm" and nothing else, no emotes, no capitalisation, no extending it to "hmmmm" etc.
I don't know but I think it's fair to say if it becomes necessary to ask those questions then you went too far.
Missed opportunity to say "you went a step too far" ;)
Oof I sure did
I would assume when you can no longer stand on them.
I know it’s stupid, but it’s posts like this that make me really wish that the fediverse had gold badges to award
I love this comic. Typical JoJo scenario
The steps don't have to be thin, you could make them jut out. But still, at some point it's effectively a ladder. That's probably the point where it's easier to start using your hands too.
Wtf, why didn't you tell me you were coming over?
(Thankfully not nearly as steep)
When does a stairs become a ladder?
When the steps transform into rungs.
Everyone worrying about getting up. I'd be more concerned about the way down on these.
My exact thought. I could get up on the balls of my feet, but my ass is falling down those stairs, for sure, on the way down.
I think the trick is to not think of them so much as difficult stairs but as an easier rock climb.
Indeed.
Took me a while to consider if this was an art piece. They were functional and used by many people, IIRC.
"Time for bed! Who's gonna belay me?"
I'll sleep at base camp tonight and try for the summit in the morning.
Lol if you can afford to buy a house with an upstairs, you can afford an autobelay
Steep stairs are one thing, but putting carpet on them is just asking to slip.
Yeah, shoulda done Teflon.
And install some sprinklers.
When my siblings and I were kids, we would ride laundry baskets down the stairs.
These stairs would be fucking rad to do that with.
Once, anyway.
Riding the laundry basket off the roof would be more comparable
Where I come from we call these, "up only" stairs. Kind of like how Perl is a write-only language.
I guarantee I can get down them. Very quickly.
Looks like an advanced Doom II map.
Just missing a teleport at the top to simulate a second floor, or a silent téléporter if you're really fancy.
I don't think Doom teleported the player to simulate a second floor. I think it was closer to asset swapping what got drawn on screen in the same location.
If you turn the Minimap on you can see where you are in the level. The Minimap was almost a depiction of how the game was really programmed, and the 3D POV was a programming trick to display it for the customer.
House of Leaves vibes
Dutch stairs. Yes, they're like that.
Yep can confirm this is standard issue in slightly older Dutch houses.
My old house had some steep stairs that felt like this.
My wife broke her ankle on them, fun story.... Nope. That sucked.
I have nightmares about this exact scenario.
At this point, just use a ladder. It'd be safer too.
That would also make space for a slide-down pole, which would be faster.
Extreme inner city house attic stairs vibes. Anything goes with attic stairs!
You'll be thankful for anything more sloped than a ladder 😂
I've been looking for attic stair options. Anything that easier to carry/slide boxes down than a ladder.
There's a lady who's sure.
Just give me a sec to put on my jump kit.
"Stairs" that ever Spiderman would reconsider...
If that's the stairway to heaven, can I request to be shown the stairs leading down?
One of the ladders aboard my carrier that led down to DC Central was a bit steeper than that. The first time most people saw it, they couldn’t believe how close to an ordinary vertical ladder it was.
To add to the chaos, the handrails on either side were way too far apart to use with both hands. And as if that wasn’t enough of nightmare, and a scuttle right above it that I had to pass through with my duty belt on. Carriers are death traps, and should qualify a sailor for HDIP.
you must go doon before you go ooot
Laddairs, it's French.
