Hey now, they don't want to bring back everything from the 50s... Suggest bringing back the tax rates from those days, especially for the upper end of the income scale, and they'll look at you like you're crazy.
Or there's the fact that union membership peaked in the 50s.

During the 50s, getting divorced was frowned upon. And I was reading about how housewife's frequently were either drugged/intoxicated to deal with their abusive husbands, or plotting to kill them.
Ballpark numbers (guesstimated by ChatGPT). In the 50s (after the ww2 explosion of the US industrial capacity) you came home after an 8 hour shift in a fridge making factory and had an income that could easily keep up 3 kids (including education), 2 cars, 1 stay at home wife and a house (like in The Simpsons). Since then the work productivity has risen 600% - 700%, yet the average income has risen less than 150% and the median icome less than 80%.
I still can't get through my day without tons of drugs. Have you seen the hellscape that we live in?
I think we need to start normalising taking lots more drugs just to cope
We did that already, late 60s into 70s... The music was better, but the musicians didn't last as long.

You’re right some people do think that way, and others are convinced to do so because they think their worsening economic situation is because of someone else’s better social situation, when in reality it’s greed and oligarchic socio-political rule which ruins it for everyone across the board.

Probably mostly for middle class white people. A pretty significant chunk of the population I think struggled to enjoy those benefits.
I don't think about that because all of the culturally-produced content I have access to paints a steady picture of property and compliance. This is my mental model and my friends and I aren't in the mood for a new story right now. ^^^/$

I was going to say the 90s and 00s before the recession was better, but then I remembered it wasn't great for the LGBT. Homophobia is casual and mainstream up until recently.
You had 911 and these pointless wars and so on and I am sure in the 90s there was enough going on that I did not perceive because I was a child.
