Summary

Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign has reignited fears among undocumented migrants with promises of “mass deportations” and migrant communities are bracing for uncertainty and a new wave of nativism.

His administration plans to target those deemed public safety or national security threats, potentially reinstating workplace raids and using military resources.

Advocates warn that “collateral arrests” could sweep up migrants without criminal records.

Many, like “Dreamers” protected under DACA, fear family separations, while others, such as Carlos in NYC, hope Trump’s economic policies might benefit them.

"A lot of Latinos, those who can vote, did so because they think he [Trump] can improve the economy. That would be very good for us too," said Carlos, an undocumented Mexican who lives in New York City.

To trump, every immigrant is a criminal.

Saying "the legal ones are welcome" is a smokescreen.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Except his wife, I'm sure. She's one of the "good ones".

[–] masterbaexunn 2 points 38 minutes ago

Don't forget about first lady elonia

[–] Etterra 6 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Good luck with that. If you voted for him you're an even more gullible dipshit than seems possible.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 hours ago (4 children)

It is absolutely disgusting how many people are letting their disappointment and fear turn into vindictiveness and anger.

They're undocumented immigrants. By definition they didn't vote for him, and you should really do some introspection to figure out why this is the first thought you had.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 22 minutes ago

You do know he’s going to change it do nationalized citizens are not citizens anymore right? If being born here doesn’t count as being a citizen, and this is retroactive, what does count?

Maybe you should get off the MAGA train and look around.

[–] Ensign_Crab 2 points 1 hour ago

Centrists would rather blame people who cannot even vote than admit that moving to the right has failed.

[–] FrostyTheDoo 1 points 3 hours ago

If someone voted or prefers for bad stuff to affect the whole country, then I see nothing wrong with preferring them to be the one to personally experience it.

If 51/100 people voted to throw a random citizen into a volcano to make God happy, I would hope that the person that gets thrown in is one of those 51 people, and not one of the other 49.

If someone can't vote because but still holds harmful views, it doesn't make them any less deserving of finding out they are wrong. If you wish harm on others, I'm not going to coddle you when you're sad you personally got harmed.

[–] Rakonat 28 points 8 hours ago

Do they not realize that he and his core audience believe the greatest crime a person can commit is not be born white?

[–] Rakonat 7 points 8 hours ago

Any of these people who think Trump gives a damn about citizen status is a absolute moron who'se never paid attention to anything he said or did about immigration. He's a white supremacist and will push for policies that align to that. Illegals will get deported, but any excuse to revoke or ignore legal status of other non-whites will be aggressively pursued. He's already established concentration camps in his first term, despite those people being legal asylum seekers, and you can bet he'll do that again. And if his administration can't find legal means to remove them from the country they are going to find more excuses for brutal treatment with "unfortunate loss of life to those who don't cooperate fully"

Oh Carlos, mi dulce niño del verano ...

[–] Fedizen 7 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

imagine being that gullible

[–] werefreeatlast 3 points 4 hours ago

Carlos, for the 2570th time, you are free to go chico! Thanks for only being an immigrant and not a criminal immigrant. Our criminal tags are pretty good and you don't have any. See you tomorrow before work again? 😊 You too man! 😀 Oh what an inspiration of a person!

[–] clutchtwopointzero 6 points 9 hours ago

He will have a rude awakening, more like the law being rammed on his anus along with an one way ticket

[–] Pacattack57 29 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

I know y’all want to make this a stupid voters leopards ate my balls post but these are undocumented people. They can not vote and had no say in the election.

[–] clutchtwopointzero 17 points 9 hours ago

Remember the old maxim: "no one hates new immigrants more than old immigrants"... Their fellow legalized immigrants supported this outcome as well

[–] Dead_or_Alive 10 points 13 hours ago (4 children)

I’m sorry, my “give a fuck” stopped working just after the election results came in.

Trump promised to deport illegals and even “denaturalize” certain citizens. He wants to deport 20 million illegal immagrants separate family and put the in camps while awaiting deportation. None of this was a secret, they fucking bragged about it.

Trump gained 14 points nationally with Hispanics. I hope he goes balls to the fucking wall and drops the hammer. May the people get exactly what they voted for.

Meanwhile, I’m going to do the best to make sure me and mine are taken care of. Stock up on toilet paper, N95 masks, freeze dried food and bullets. It’s gonna be lit!🔥

I get that TikTok, YT Shorts, and FaceBook slowly removes attention span, but how the fuck does it cause Amnesia for everything that happened before 2020?

Trump literally removed holding time limitations and changed the Criminal Only ICE focus of previous administrations so they could put women and children in cages deport children alone to random South American nations citing some ancient treaties.

This already fucking happened. All of it.

[–] Jiggle_Physics 4 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

Lots of people still thought Trump was running against Biden when they cast their vote.

[–] AnUnusualRelic 4 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

At this rate, I suspect that a good number also thought Obama was still in office.

[–] Jiggle_Physics 2 points 5 hours ago

don't know about this far off, but I witnessed some people blame obama when biden was first in office.

[–] Alenalda 0 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Tbf Kamala did nothing to distance herself from Biden policy wise.

[–] Jiggle_Physics 1 points 3 hours ago

I agree, she did poorly

"Why didn't literally everyone tell me that the racist genocidal maniac was a racist genocidal maniac?"

[–] ChronosTriggerWarning 15 points 16 hours ago

INCLUDING the racist, genocidal maniac?!?1?

[–] [email protected] 18 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I'm honestly terrified as a naturalized citizen that he's going to either try to revoke my citizenship or ignore it altogether :/

[–] [email protected] 10 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Birthright citizenship is on the chopping block

[–] [email protected] 6 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (3 children)

If they're allowed to carry out their plans in full, will there even BE any path to citizenship?

[–] HappycamperNZ 4 points 9 hours ago

Depends - are you white, rich, male, speak English and at least a touch racist yourself?

If not - na, probably not.

Stephen “nazi” Miller wants to create an army from Trump loyal national guard members and go into “blue” states to enforce deportation.

I doubt they’ll check if you’re a criminal or not.

So long, Carlos.

[–] Rakonat 9 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (1 children)

I'm still trying to understand this belief that he is good for the economy. He's a failed business man who bankrupted a casino. His successful businesses are all grifts and money laundering. To say nothing of how our economy tanked after 4 years of his failed trade wars and 2+2=7 tax plan.

[–] WrenFeathers 3 points 7 hours ago

Fear will make people easy prey for bad actors. Ignorance helps too.

“If you’re here illegally, you better be looking over your shoulder.”

They've also mentioned along the lines of "if you are here illegally, then you've already committed a crime".

[–] roguetrick 12 points 16 hours ago

The fun part is, it's not actually a crime. That's why they use immigration judges and not criminal ones.

I sincerely wish the absolute worst on any marginalized group that voted for Trump. You have nothing but my deepest sincere disgust and deserve whatever happens to you.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 hours ago

Wouldnt people who voted for someone who hates them just be misinformed?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 12 hours ago

God, you people really can't live without a boogeyman or a scapegoat. Y'all disgust me.

Everyone here who stayed past their visa or crossed the border illegally is a criminal to the Republicans regardless of any attempts at asylum or other legal avenues to stay. (Yes, they have done something illegal, no need to be a pedant)

Especially if they're brown.

If they're white and have some money, they'll be fine.

If they're brown and working for a Republican illegally, they'll just get paid less and worked harder while being threatened with deportation if they complain.

[–] cultsuperstar 25 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (4 children)

As someone posted in another thread, the mass deportations of Mexicans in the late 1920s/early 1930s ended up deporting American born Mexicans as well. So yeah, America deported actual American citizens because they didn't care or couldn't be bothered to check papers or whatever. Who's to say that isn't going to happen this time around?

Also, Trump said Latinos have a "murder gene," so he already thinks they're all criminals of some sort.

How can anyone listen to Trump's racist rants about shit hole countries and walk away thinking "he doesn't mean me"? He absolutely means you. There's about to be a whole lot of faces meeting some very hungry leopards.
