The clones retain the same physical attributes and memory as the original 'you' just before the replacement. From the clone's perspective, it would be as if you swapped places with another person with no context of the situation that person was in, except it's with every living person on earth, everyone but you cease to exist and the original 'you' isn't affected in any way.

How would you imagine the world to become after this? How would the society act now that it has become entirely composed of 'you's? How would you and your clones live the rest of your lives in such a world?

  • The most common kind of art you'd see is art of peculiar creatures, often ones without any eyes, but with big gaping mouths with lips and teeth

  • Physics is my favourite subject, so I'd imagine there would be a lot more physicists around!

  • Usage of "Eh" at the end of a sentence will be the norm

  • Nobody would be able to play hockey, since I cannot ice skate to save my life

  • I have hyperthymia so the entire world would be having a constant episode of mild mania pretty much LMAO

[–] trashgirlfriend 17 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

We are trashgirlfriend.

We are many.

We have no idea how to operate a nuclear power plant.

[–] jam12705 2 points 4 hours ago

Its basically just boiling water, I'm sure you all can figure it out. Just start pressing buttons.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 hours ago

Nothing will get done.

Well, not exactly. My clones could probably make a decent guess on what to do, but they'd procrastinate on it and do something else given what's available to them. Before long, everyone starves to death.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 hours ago

Without anyone around who would be sad if I ceased to exist, quite a lot of me would leave pretty quickly, if you catch my drift.

But then, there's also that all but one of me would be in my house, with my things. I'm a nigh-agoraphobic hoarder. Several billion of me would be a long, long way from home and my (our?) stuff, and several thousand would start heading to my house as fast as humanly possible.

There'd be a lot of road accidents. I don't drive.

Infrastructure would crumble immediately.

Anyone who didn't "leave" would starve in a few days.

This is not a good plan. Do not use.

The world would become pretty gay, since there wouldn't be another option.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 hours ago

Everyone would be very careful because there would be no doctors. I'm in good health now but any serious injuries or future diseases would go untreated until some of mes went to self taught medical school.

The world would pretty much immediately grind to a halt because, surprisingly enough, i don't know everything.
Power stations would shut down, water treatment plants would fail, crops would fail to get harvested, air traffic would be a disaster, etc. I will say that once i figured out that it all relied on "me" i would put in serious effort but it couldnt possibly make up for the lack of knowledge.
On the plus side conflicts would likely just end because I'm mostly a pacifist and open minded.

It would temporarily be pretty chill.
Ya boi (that's me) is known among friends to be easy-going, relaxed, and easy to work with.
...Until it devolved into chaos and we all died, anyway.

Edit: oh and obviously Lemmy would die :(
I could probably figure out how to keep it running with all the information online but with everything else going on...

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 hours ago

Very quiet.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

The world would be a far better place

[–] SwordInStone 1 points 5 hours ago

optimistic of you

[–] EtnaAtsume 3 points 8 hours ago

Change my name to Horatio.

The world would collectively chuckle at my/our stupid reference.

[–] [email protected] 37 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (1 children)

We're going to starve. But until the food runs out, the orgy will be massive and non-stop.

[–] ivanafterall 5 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (1 children)

The massive, non-stop orgy is precisely the part I'm dreading.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

You wouldn't even be there!

[–] ivanafterall 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Knowing me, I probably would.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 children)

Oh shit... I didn't realize my actual clone was on Lemmy. Though I guess it makes sense... After all, you're me, and I'm here too. Great minds and all that. 😏

[–] ivanafterall 1 points 1 hour ago

You must be one of the snarky versions of me. 🙄

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 hours ago

I'd give it like 2 weeks.

[–] toynbee 2 points 7 hours ago

Kinda lonely.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 hours ago

Never-ending global orgy

[–] [email protected] 7 points 11 hours ago

I will give an honest answer. I think the biggest problem would be the knowledge that humanity ends with US. There is absolutely no future unless we decided to clone the opposite gender or something, but honestly that sounds like too much work. So the next thing that would happen is the inevitable depression that follows as all of modern society grinds to a halt and we all decide that any continued existence is just prolonging our inevitable extinction. I give it about a week before most of my copies have died from giving up, the rest live out their days with little meaning in their lives aside from day to day survival.

[–] thedeadwalking4242 1 points 7 hours ago

Probably attempt to evacuate and dangerous places I absolutely have no place being. I’m sure lots of me would die in plan crashes, and I pity the ones currently in nuclear submarines. They’d probably try to figure out how to land or steer but probably fail. The rest would probably get together and form some agrarian society while we figured out how to industrialize.

[–] theywilleatthestars 11 points 13 hours ago

Nothing productive is going to happen ever again

[–] Valmond 4 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

This happens in a comics, I'll try to remember it's name but there is a sentient, ultra violent poo-like protagonist who is kind of the hero named Schlock or something.

It's a teleport malfunction and a science guy gets multiplied like 400 million times.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

Gav. Cameo from Nukees. Dude ends up outnumbering quite a few species. As the author notes, you have to be dinka-cho careful with tokjith.

Schlock Mercenary is pretty great, I reread it every few years.

If you like military scifi it's worth a look.

[–] BurnoutDV 5 points 10 hours ago

Schlock mercenary is the comics name

[–] [email protected] 9 points 13 hours ago

Horrible.

We'd be very kind to eachother but nothing of value would be done

[–] njm1314 4 points 11 hours ago

So my level of education and competence? Oh no, oh good lord no.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 12 hours ago

I'm literally killing myself

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 hours ago

War would be declared every morning before all the me's have had my coffee.

[–] essell 4 points 12 hours ago

Society has finally given up on trousers completely.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 14 hours ago

I'm seriously impaired, so all humans will start dying in a matter of weeks.

On the plus side, everything in that book The World Without Us will come to pass, and the planet's environment and ecology will be better off.

[–] ray1992xd 3 points 11 hours ago

One giant lan party I suppose.

[–] DarthKaren 7 points 14 hours ago

Everywhere I look, assholes! /s

We'd be fucked. My memory sucks and I'm on a heavy dose of neuro meds for pain. Flying would also be a no. I have a constant vertigo sensation.

That said, I'm usually pretty good at keeping upbeat and friendly. Not greedy. Don't care how you dress, what you worship, what you call yourself or identify as, and think you should have your own agency over your body. So at least there's that.

Sexy time would be weird too. Do I call my own name?

Oh! And I can do that mirror prank endlessly!!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 13 hours ago

The world just got a whoooole lot sexier

[–] [email protected] 7 points 14 hours ago

I'm incredibly scrappy, so we would get by. I can farm, I can repair stuff, I have a good work ethic, and I get along well with myself.

In certain sciences, we're just fucked, though. I guess we just don't do some of that anymore.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 14 hours ago

chiillllll. things would slow down a lot, but be efficiently run. interesting podcasts.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 14 hours ago

We'd be cracking bobiverse jokes until the world ended

[–] [email protected] 4 points 14 hours ago

Society probably wouldn’t work very well. I don’t know anything but how to write code and eat hot chip. Lots of plane crashes.

[–] MrJameGumb 4 points 14 hours ago

There was an episode of The Twilight Zone about this it's called The Mind and the Matter. I don't recall that it turned out well

[–] jordanlund 1 points 11 hours ago

Extinct in less than 20 years.

[–] P00ptart 3 points 14 hours ago

Society will slowly crumble as we hold mass jerk-offs.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 hours ago

Some of me would probably survive. Having experience in agriculture would help there. Also, with enough of me, we might be and to keep some power generation running, as long as manuals could be found. The adaptability of AuADHD could help in a lot of ways... But the AuADHD of AuADHD would probably cause some of me to make silly oversights that on such a grand scale would get many of us killed.

On the plus side, shit would be pretty peaceful and I could get some good rest.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 14 hours ago

lots of sex and then wed all die of something dumb
