Great for focus, like a decaying metronome

I've got a bobble-head baby Groot. It's pretty handy to talk to, and it's a useful branch manager. Plus, it has root access.

I have a small diecast dumpster on my desk that people always comment on.

[–] Usernameblankface 5 points 1 month ago

That is a pretty interesting piece. I'll have to remember die cast direct whenever I have some space and money to expand my model car collection

I had some red paper stuffed in the one side for a little bit too 🤣

[–] cheese_greater 1 points 1 month ago

I want this now

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I bought this to hold my forklift certification card

[–] cheese_greater 4 points 1 month ago

Don't you need a lego forkclift license to possess and operate one of thos?

[–] Usernameblankface 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

How exactly does a newton's cradle help with focus? I never had one, and I think I'd end up focusing on the motion of it instead of anything else I'm supposed to be doing.

Just try a youtube video that plays it for like an hour, see if you like it

More monitors..you can never have enough monitors

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

my gpu disagrees and doesn't want to do more than 4 :(

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Time for another GPU then

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I prefer one very large high resolution monitor to multiple.

[–] TK420 1 points 1 month ago

And it simplifies the cabling a shit ton.

Rubik's cube. I learned to solve it years back and got interested in speed solving. I just pick it up and solve it a few times throughout the day. It's also fun to fidget with.

I like those things that are in weird shapes and filled with colored liquids that you flip upside down and does "cool stuff" lol

(I always forget what they're called)

On my desk, I have a Spring Duck.

If you don't know what a spring duck is, that's because I created it out of random shit that we found around the office. Specifically, a plastic duck, and a spring.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago

The most satisfying thing when I need to fidget is something to take things apart and put back together. And the best things for that are ones that can be stripped and reassembled without me needing to look at them.

So far the best of best is this "multitool pen" I got for secret santa last year. It's nearly worthless for any of its advertised functions, but as a fidget toy I really like it.

I have a yarn Yoshi amiibo that puts a smile on my face

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I have the same thing on my desk that I keep inside a potted plant

Hands down: Mova globe.

https://www.movaglobes.com/

I know how it works, but it still feels like magic. If I had to reduce my pleasure possessions to one item, that would be it.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Shit, that’s awesome. I want one of these.

[–] cheese_greater 5 points 1 month ago

[–] Num10ck 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I only have a quarter pipe, but I also have a rail.

[–] Num10ck 3 points 1 month ago

cool. have you ever played the mobile game touchgrind?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

I keep an hourglass. It's a good way to try and spend a particular amount of time on a task.

[–] FlashMobOfOne 5 points 1 month ago

In the before times I had several Lego Batman motorcycles on my work desk. Those are great fun, but live in my home space now.

[–] Num10ck 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

lets be honest its your phone running a lemmy app.

[–] cheese_greater 4 points 1 month ago

Beliw the belt, brah 😅

[–] other_cat 2 points 1 month ago

I have a gemstone (I forget what kind, it's a dark purple though) worry stone. It's just the right shape to rest in my hand and let me rub my thumb over it. I don't really use it for that often, but on occasion it's nice to just hold a cool stone, literally and figuratively.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I have a "This is Fine" dog Funko Pop on my desk at work. He works well for rubber ducky programming, and he encapsulates the feelings I typically have after dealing with some of my clients.

This isn't my picture, but it's a similar setup:

[–] cheese_greater 2 points 1 month ago

How that that doggo not have his own syndicated cartoon by now?

[–] Smokeydope 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

The Dynavap m7xl Rosium. I don't think you even have to know what a dynavap is or what its used for to appreciate its aesthetic appeal.

Its the most beautiful metal stick ive ever had the pleasure of holding. The way it changes color as it reflects light is so cool. You can just spin it around and fidget with the cap while watching the colors. I am considering get in a spinning base to put it on so I can watch it rotate automatically

[–] Lommy 2 points 1 month ago

Nice. I'm on the brink of buying a M7 to complement my collection. Do you think it's worth it? I probably won't showcase it on my desk.
