Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!

How voting works:

Vote the opposite of the norm.

If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.

Guidelines:

Tag your post, if possible (not required)

  • If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
  • If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].

Rules:

1. NO POLITICS

Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.

2. Be civil.

Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...

Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.

5. No trolling.

This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.

Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

I mean...I almost said "since when are facts unpopular opinions?"

But then I realized...

He's got a point.....facts...are unpopular opinions nowadays!

Is this an unpopular opinion?

[–] [email protected] 50 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Here? No. Reddit? Maybe. Facebook? Probably. Truth Social? Yes.

Did Musk change the name again? /s

[–] [email protected] 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)

You joke, but apparently Trump did actually try to get Musk to buy his garbage barge of a social media site

[–] n0m4n 1 points 8 months ago

Musk has a string of businesses that he buys, starts to run, and then drives them into the ground. Buying a business that is already driven into the ground is a new one,

Dude it's called unpopular opinion not factual statements

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago

Came here to say basically the same thing. GOP now stands for Groupies of Putin.

That's exactly what it is. It should be downvoted into oblivion (even though it's likely true). It's a weird form of karma whoring in a community which should be smart enough to not encourage the behavior

Welcome to humanity.

And Israel, and corporate lobbies (fossil fuels, pharma, privatized healthcare/prisons/education etc), and homophobes, and white supremacists, and the hyper religious who want to remove separation of church and state, and... To be fair, some of those apply to both major political parties, but the Republicans in particular seem to be hell-bent on compromising themselves. And let's not leave out that they decided (by a large margin) that their "best" candidate is a fraudulent insurrectionist sex offender who has publicly stated his desire to be dictator.

Let's not forget all of those who should be politically neutral from the low level staff in the DOJ up to SCOTUS. I hope the majority just do their job without political tilt, but that line is absolutely being blurred. I'm sure many people will start pointing to Thomas as an example, not a cautionary tale.

Is this post part of a meta trend of making obvious statements as though they were unpopular opinions?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

It's going to turn to r/unpopularopinion with at best an interesting but reasonable take and at worse a very mundane agreeable opinion.

[–] Humana 12 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Don't let them off that easy. They are not victims of some KGB style program or espionage trickery. They did this to themselves. They chose this knowing full well what they were doing.

They are willing allies of Russia.

[–] muntedcrocodile 8 points 8 months ago

I mean its 100% true.

That raises the question where did the boxes of us goverment secrets trump loaded onto a plane end up?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 8 months ago

Facts. This is just facts. Not even unpopular facts really, maybe something most people don't realize.

[–] cmoney 5 points 8 months ago

That's not an opinion it's facts.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago

Yeah, no, this isn't exactly unpopular on the majority of Lemmy lmao. With how reductive the Republican party is being, particularly towards foreign policy, I wouldn't put backdoor deals out of the question. HOWEVER, there is no physical proof that they aren't just aggressively trying to isolate America for their own America first reasons. Perhaps it is explained by Hanlon's razor for all we know

[–] Linkerbaan 3 points 8 months ago

The Republican and Democrat party have been compromised by israel.

[–] Lladra 1 points 8 months ago

For decades now.
