Ben Shapiro said AI could take over his job of writing things.

After reading the shitty things AI put out, everyone agreed he, and he alone, could be replaced by AI.

Behind The Bastards podcast did several episodes where they read from his novel "True Allegiance" and boy is it every bit as racist as it is terrible! But I love what a blatant self-insert the whole thing is. That part cracks me up. Ben's protagonist is a handsome six-foot+ man's man named Brett who is not only the youngest General in the US Army but he definitely doesn't have a squeaky voice and people would never dare tease him and he totally got invited to lots of of parties in college too.

I'd highly recommend searching for a Spotify playlist called "Behind the Bastards: True Allegiance" if you want a waste a couple hours with some comedy gold.

Take a bullet for you babe

I've listened and even relistened to them, it's so entertaining lol

[–] cmbabul 17 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

I think they read the sequel on Worst Year Ever

Edit: I’m sure they read at some of Ben’s books on the tail end of that shows run but maybe it wasn’t True Allegiance

[–] dasgoat 12 points 11 months ago

They read his book on sex education which was, shall we say, informative on his views on sex. Of which there are many, but none are good.

I'm sure Brett's future wife has a pussy so dry it sounds like sandpaper rubbing against itself with every step she takes in the stiletto heels she has to wear to be tall enough to be kissed by Brett.

That's Combat General Brett Hawthorne to you.

You have to say the whole thing, every time.

[–] Wakmrow 8 points 11 months ago

A bear of a man

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

You'd think he'd be sucking off Brett Cavanaugh.

A good portion of the blue collar guys were funny, modern “conservatives” are just blatant bigots

[–] [email protected] 48 points 11 months ago (1 children)

None of the conservative influencers have ever held a job (that didn't depend on being bankrolled by some conservative billionaire).

[–] captainlezbian 29 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah funny how one of the founding texts of modern gender theory (Stone Butch Blues) was written by a working class factory worker from buffalo, but a bunch of rich failed Los Angeles writers and actors want to act like they understand everyday Americans.

[–] Wogi 24 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (6 children)

Leslie Feinberg (September 1, 1949 – November 15, 2014) was an American butch lesbian, transgender activist, communist, and author.

Yeah that tracks for factory work.

[–] captainlezbian 9 points 11 months ago

Yeah it’s one of those things that it’s really funny how so many people who’ve never set foot in a factory wouldn’t understand.

I’ll die on the hill that Jeff Foxworthy is funny as fuck. Ron White isn’t really bad albeit he’s just a really good storyteller, Larry the Cable Guy was always way too much gimmick for my taste but he was mostly fart jokes or the equivalent, Bill Engvall is the most fortunate man in the history of comedy because his ceiling would be traveling youth pastor had he not hitched his wagon to the others

Edit: and while it was clear they were conservative, they were never racist as far as I remember, although reflecting they were probably at least a tad sexist and homophobic, and I’m not gonna apologize for them if my memory is wrong

Edit 2: fuck I forgot about 9/11, Larry the cable guy for sure used the fuck out of that, retract the not racist bit, it was par for the course at the time but that’s no excuse

Close. Conservative comedy is about punching down, which can never be funny.

"The One Joke" is just its current, culturely relevant iteration. In 10-20 years, it'll be "climate refugees...am I right?"

[–] afraid_of_zombies 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

What about King of the Hill?

[–] TurtleJoe 15 points 11 months ago (1 children)

King of the Hill features characters who are likely conservative, but it's just a satire of a part of the country. I've never watched it and felt that the show itself was political in any way.

[–] FlyingSquid 46 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Conservative comedy has been terrible for a very long time. Fox News tried to compete with Comedy Central (really) by releasing their own 'Daily Show' called The Half-Hour News Hour. I watched one episode and it was painfully unfunny. For example, this was when Obama was a rising star and they did a bit that lasted at least five minutes about how bad Obama smells because his initials are B.O.

Even back then before I knew who Obama really was, I thought, "isn't this like a joke from a radio show from the 40s? Who uses the term 'B.O.' anymore?"

There have been some very funny right-wing comedians. The ones already mentioned are good examples. Another is P.J. O'Rourke, who wrote some hilariously funny books, in part because he had no problem attacking his side as much as attacking the left.

That may be the biggest problem with conservative comedians today- they only attack the left. They don't hold a mirror up to themselves. Some of the best comedy is self-reflection and they aren't capable of self-reflection.

[–] snuff 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Isn't PJ O'Rourke on NPR's Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me? I never would have pegged him as a conservative.

[–] FlyingSquid 7 points 11 months ago (1 children)

No, he's been dead for years.

[–] snuff 3 points 11 months ago

Oh damn... yeah 2016. Still, he was a regular on the show. Didn't know he was considered conservative when he was alive.

[–] RadButNotAChad 31 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Don't forget that conservative comedy then also was lame: https://youtu.be/DDimQTJMjB0?si=ufgOX4eM6Q3cUVQ4

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago

Mustn't forget this gem.

[–] thefloweracidic 2 points 11 months ago

So glad you shared this, David Cross is pretty cool.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Remember when fox thought they could be funny?

Comedy has to have an element of truth.

Gov. Mike Huckabee, his left eye rolling independently: "Ever noticed that Barack HUSSEIN Obama is a secret Muslim werewolf who hates America?"
Nonagenarian audience: "Ha, ha, ha. This humorous whippersnapper is the bee's knees"

[–] YoBuckStopsHere 7 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Conservative comedy is generally racist, too

[–] afraid_of_zombies 2 points 11 months ago

The only conservative joke I have heard in the past decade that made me even snicker was one called the new math Obamacore.

[–] FlyingSquid 6 points 11 months ago

At one point, I toyed with the idea of a Twitter bot that only replied to Mike Huckabee's tweets and only with the phrase, "you're not funny."

[–] afraid_of_zombies 24 points 11 months ago (2 children)

It has definitely changed. You can't compare Imus on his worst day vs that YouTube guy PJ on his best day. They aren't even doing the same sport. At some point it just went from gentle teasing to vicious. I liked King of the Hill even when the enemy of the week was leftwing, because rarely was the enemy of the week evil they just had some kooky ideas. There is a difference between telling someone that they are being silly and telling someone that they are raping children.

[–] EncryptKeeper 16 points 11 months ago

There were also plenty of times where Hank Hill figured out he was being too uptight.

[–] VindictiveJudge 8 points 11 months ago

KOTH fairly regularly has the left wing dude be right and Hank learn a lesson. In general, Mike Judge takes a pretty equal number of shots at everyone.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 11 months ago

pronouns lol!

[–] [email protected] 18 points 11 months ago

punching is a vector that, generally, should increase in y coordinates regardless of x

Being a failed artist turned political influencer has been a time honored tradition for the far right for nearly 100 years

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife 3 points 11 months ago

Joe McCarthy started out in standup, true story.

[–] makingrain 8 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

I agree with this so bad! Comedy is a joke for the most part.. maybe YouTube ruined it? Maybe not. Just watch Kill Tony for:

  • Easy racist (but not funny) jokes
  • Trans jokes
  • More racist jokes
  • Lib/Republican divide
  • Vaccines!
[–] Daft_ish 3 points 11 months ago

Because he killed him

[–] creditCrazy -4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Honestly I'm finding that's just political humour today it's all just "this is my view… laugh" quite frankly that just kinda goes with both sides so yeah fuck political issues in intertainment it's obvious no one can make a good joke using this stuff

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It's absolutely not "both sides", and you know it

[–] creditCrazy -1 points 11 months ago

With conservatives they are rather boring blokes but good god can you even find one good joke made by left as far as I've seen everyone who has taken the time to pick a side and make jokes about the topic they usually don't have a sense of humor at all so yea i genuinely think it's both sides
