I really wish we could disable PMs from anyone but admins or mods of comms we subscribe to, like you can on reddit. There will never be a day when I want to receive a PM from anyone on Lemmy. Sure, but did you at least add context about why you're messaging them? Like some comment or post they made that you liked and you wanted to talk about similar stuff?
Because that would be kind of normal. That's what private messages are for. But this one is just bait.
Yeah just a question or a word of encouragement or a recommendation so it didn't seem like I was advertising. I like most things to be publicly posted but not everything. If Lemmy gets a bunch of bot spam PMs, legit ones will be less likely to get a response.
I imagine speed limits will be put on DMs at some point in the future. There's no reason to have it wide open so you can firehose multiple people with the same message.
Like, if you're sending a message to someone and they reply back, you can immediately reply back, back-and-forth, as fast as you want. Other than that, you should only be able to send a message once every five or ten minutes.
Got 4 copies of it, I don't even know how to send a message to "all" here, didn't think it was possible.

I tried to make it as clear as possible I was riffing on your joke. I don’t believe in having to label sarcasm with “/s” because it implies the people reading it are too stupid to recognize an ironic comment.
