Summary

Donald Trump’s appointment of far-right commentator Sebastian Gorka as deputy assistant to the president and senior director for counter-terrorism has sparked backlash.

Critics, including former Trump officials John Bolton and HR McMaster, have labeled Gorka unqualified and controversial, pointing to his brief tenure in Trump’s first term and his promotion of extreme policies.

Gorka has a history of inflammatory rhetoric, ties to far-right groups, and legal troubles, yet remains a polarizing figure in conservative circles.

The appointment has intensified concerns about Trump’s administration favoring ideological loyalty over expertise in key national security roles.

THIS guy is too much. We've got a sham "Doctor", a parasitic brain worm in a human suit, a news anchor, a conflict-mine rich asshole, a pedophile, and in charge of this oncoming apocalypse is a rapist, another pedophile, felon, tax/draft dodging piece of sub-human excrement, but THIS guy is too much? Sounds like he's par for the course.

As much as I hate it, Dr. Oz is actually an extremely capable cardiothoracic surgeon. Like top of his field level. He just turned into a piece of shit grifter. Him being a capable physician makes him more dangerous IMHO, he can do a lot more damage with that knowledge.

Dr. Oz is actually an extremely capable cardiothoracic surgeon

Was. He let his license lapse over a decade ago and the last several years before that, he designed medical equipment and promoted snake oil on TV.

Like Ben Carson, Mehmet Oz might have been a great surgeon, but now he's a filthy rich net negative to society like most if not all of the other Trump picks.

And also like Ben Carson, he's living proof that you can be extremely well educated and skilled and still be a fucking idiot.

True, he is no longer a practicing surgeon. But I think it's disingenuous to not recognize the fact that he was an actual medical professional who was exceptionally good at what he did. It makes what he has been doing that much more evil. He knows exactly what he's peddling and just how much harm it is doing.

[–] Viking_Hippie 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Except, being a surgeon, he hasn't had much to do with the medicinal side of things since med school. It was never his area of expertise.

Hell, I bet people still in training as a pharmacist know more about what drugs work and don't work than Mehmet ever did.

[–] SolarTapestryofNoise 4 points 3 weeks ago

That's very true. Although he is more informed on the topic than your average person. In other words, he knows enough to know better, but fame and fortune are some powerful drugs.

Surgeons being skillful assholes isn't an uncommon thing.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear 17 points 3 weeks ago

They always think their expertise in one area makes them an expert at everything, when in reality they are below average.

[–] Hawanja 5 points 3 weeks ago

He's also one of those hydroxychloriquine-cures-covid assholes, which should disqualify him alone imo.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago

He's been a snake oil salesman for at least a decade, perfect choice toanage medical bidgets

[–] enbyecho 3 points 3 weeks ago

Bonus points: Gorka is also a sham "doctor"

What do I win?

[–] [email protected] 18 points 3 weeks ago

Gorka has a history of inflammatory rhetoric, ties to far-right groups, and legal troubles….

This seems like requirements to be part of this administration? Not seeing a problem here other than that he’ll produce more infighting, which at this point is a benefit.

"as dangerous as he is unqualified"

Wouldn't that describe all of his cabinet choices so far?

[–] Cort 2 points 3 weeks ago

I mean technically Matt Gates is a lawyer, so that was some qualification

[–] peopleproblems 13 points 3 weeks ago

Took me a bit to find it, but I knew I had something for this:

[–] twistypencil 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

These picks are designed to fail, so Trump can swoop in with executive power and declare martial law

[–] Hawanja 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I think Trump is incapable of long term planning. That actually requires work.

[–] twistypencil 1 points 3 weeks ago

It's a mistake to think the clown is anything but a distraction

[–] CharlesDarwin 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Seems like donvict is trying to gin up as much ragebait as possible.

All I know is - the dumbfucks that balked at calling Jill Biden a doctor will gladly call Gorka a "doctor" while happily giving him a reacharound.

[–] mojofrododojo 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

gish gallop governance: deploy so much bullshit your opposition will not know where to start.

[–] CharlesDarwin 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Bannon literally encourages his cult "flood the zone with shit".

[–] mojofrododojo 3 points 3 weeks ago

it's the only real skill they have

[–] enbyecho 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The silver-lining here is the minor entertainment value to be found:

  1. He has an extremely punchable face
  2. Everybody hates him
  3. He's so arrogant and thin-skinned he apparently blows up at even the most minor perceived slight

So it's a bit like tossing a glitter bomb into a meeting of people who are bending over backwards to appear Very Very Serious.

[–] CharlesDarwin 3 points 3 weeks ago

I wonder how butthurt he gets when people don't call him "doctor"? Or if they use it with air quotes and/or a snicker when they say "doctor" Gorka...

I bet that place is a den of snakes and absolutely none of these people seem like genuinely happy people, even when they are putting on a trollface when trolling most normal Americans with their bullshit.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 weeks ago

"...intensified concerns..."

shocked-pikachu

[–] Diplomjodler3 3 points 3 weeks ago

It'll be this guy next. He's fully qualified.

[–] Treczoks 2 points 3 weeks ago

"As dangerous as he/she is unqualified" fits to any person of the coming government including the president himself.

[–] inclementimmigrant 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Just embrace the fact that America will burn with the Americans decision to elect a deeply unqualified and extremist Republican party.
