Summary

Despite concerns over Donald Trump’s past mishandling of classified information, including an FBI raid at his home in 2022, the Biden Administration is preparing to grant him access to national security briefings as part of a standard presidential transition.

This approach aligns with tradition, although intelligence experts are apprehensive, given Trump’s history of allegedly revealing sensitive information, notably to Russian officials.

Trump’s team is negotiating terms for office space and transition protocols but previously delayed signing a formal agreement with the General Services Administration.

Some Trump advisers have proposed bypassing standard security clearance procedures for incoming staff.

Actually insane that he is going to get away with everything.

There was a small glimmer of hope until he won the election.

There supposed to be his sentencing on 26th, but after he won I doubt it will be anything.

Edit: after looking more into it, looks like he is appealing that president elect has the same rights to do any crime as president based not on Constitution or any law but on the DOJ memo.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 month ago

Nothing will come of that sentencing. Not even a fine.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There's still a small one with amendment 14, and the fact that the US military is already looking into how to refuse illegal orders.

[–] rigatti 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If by small you mean 0.00000000000001%.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 month ago

I like your optimism.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago

That's what the majority of electors want, welcome to democracy!

[–] RattlerSix 92 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Last time they had to dumb down the briefings and draw pictures so the stupid fuck could follow along. This time they should just make them as highly technical as possible. Bore him to sleep for the security of the nation.

[–] grue 48 points 1 month ago (2 children)

You're talking as if the people giving the briefings aren't about to all be fired and replaced with MAGA loyalist sycophants.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 month ago

The thing about sycophants is that they don't tend to be very competent. I expect replacing people in crucial positions will be the start of the end for the US as a superpower.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

at least they will have no idea what they're doing.

Make all reports 50 pages long, mostly context, and very little actual Intel. That way, anybody actually reading it can't pass it on. Gonna make a "didn't specifically asked, didn't tell" policy.

[–] dhork 20 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

No, all he's really looking for is the affirmation he never got from his father. Fill the classified briefings with quotes from people who love him. Leave the details out of it.

I remember reading that the people who wrote the briefings last time had to make sure his name appeared in any section they wanted him to read, otherwise he's just skip it.

And so will some Russians.

[–] Diplomjodler3 59 points 1 month ago

Just send everything straight to Moscow. It'll be more efficient.

~~Trump~~ Putin Will Soon Get Classified Briefings Again

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 month ago

Oohh, Putin and Winnie Pooh must be sleeping with a smile now...

On a side note: zelenski should immediately stop giving the US us any security information

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He won't actually, like, listen to them. But he'll be in the room when they're happening. Sometimes. If he didn't decide to play golf instead.

[–] ArtVandelay 6 points 1 month ago

Jesus at this point I just hope he does play golf every day.

[–] xenomor 16 points 1 month ago

Apparently, Putin too.

[–] Rapidcreek 15 points 1 month ago

Save a step and FaceTime the briefings with Putin

Never imagined that I’d end up hoping for a military coup.

I'm GLAD the people who told us Trump was going to be the FASCIST DOWNFALL of America are Happily giving him TOP SECRET INTELLIGENCE!

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

What else should they do? End Democracy themselves?

The american voters gave Trump access to Top Secret Intelligence (again!), so this is on them (as is every fucked up thing Trump can and will do for the next four years or longer).

Our country was literally founded on the concept that what's morally right isn't always legal.

Every group in this country who has fought to gain equality with white men reinforced that concept.

Breaking the law in the name of freedom is part of the fabric of this country, if the people are willing to do so.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I get your point and I'm not saying that everything lawful is inherently morally right. But we're not talking about challenging and improving laws here and there. The transition of power in a democracy must be honored, otherwise it's not a democracy anymore.

[–] billiam0202 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

But we’re not talking about challenging and improving laws here and there.

Neither are we. We're talking about a man who wants to be a dictator and has said as much. We're talking about the political party backing him that has a complete disregard for the aspirational ideals this country was founded on- a secular government that ensures equality for all. We're talking about the greatest wealth inequality in the history of the country. We're talking about the looting of public services to continue to drive that inequality even higher. We're talking about the language of fear and hate being spread from a coordinated political party and media that is enriched by that language.

Transferring power to someone who wants to improve your country but wants to do so in a way you disagree with is fine. Giving power to someone who said he is going to break everything is not.

The transition of power in a democracy must be honored, otherwise it’s not a democracy anymore

And now the dilemma becomes clear: you either give up democracy to prevent a fascist takeover, or you give up democracy because the fascists have taken over. Either way you've lost it, the question is whether you want the hope of it returning once purging fascists is done, or whether you want concentration camps and minority rule?

Democracy does not work when the electorate is uneducated and heavily propagandized, exactly the way America is now. Prioritizing the concept of democracy over the rights of people who will be hurt by the people you're handing power to, makes you complicit.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

And now the dilemma becomes clear: you either give up democracy to prevent a fascist takeover, or you give up democracy because the fascists have taken over.

I don't think I agree. You haven't lost democracy yet and while "purging the facists" surely sounds nice, it's still a pipedream that most certainly would just result in civil war.

[–] billiam0202 1 points 1 month ago

My argument is that the GOP is going to do what they say they're going to do, and your argument is that they aren't.

Frankly, I think you're being optimistic.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It sucks, but it's the right move. We need to be prepared for what the Trump team does, but we can't just say "we think you'll do evil, so we're not giving you power." That would actually give them all the power. They'd, as the people willed it, take power by force, and then there'd be no resistance. The military would be "in the right" siding with them.

The correct move, I'm fairly certain, is to give them power and prepare a resistance. Let them make their move and show their hand, then a resistance will be justified.

Ideally, we're wrong and he doesn't do what we expect. I don't suspect this will be the case, but we would be wrong to assume it isn't possible and to ignore the will of the people.

We need to ensure Trump isn't a martyr and is instead a symbol of what happens when you become a tyrant. If he's martyred then his movement lives on. If he becomes what we suspect he will then the people will ally against him and the military will be right in turning against him.

...then we have to win.

The world is a more complex place than when he left. Better use the big box of 64 crayon colors. If you have to use hand puppets, don't forget to do the voices.

In the 1930s a large majority of the german people wanted Hitler to lead them. That didn't mean that the german jews or gays or the poles or anyone else deserved what happened to them.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago

That meme doesn't make any sense in this posts context.
