Pretty much the title. I think you all know what I'm talking about.

I still call it Twitter, because that's what it is.

[–] nickhammes 66 points 5 months ago

When he stops deadnaming his daughter, maybe I'll start to care about his attempted rebrand of Twitter

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I still call Meta Facebook and alphabet Google... No one is confused, it's only ambiguous if you start getting into logistics about business units

Twitter didn't even reorganize, they just changed their name to something it feels dumb to say. It's actually less ambiguous to call it Twitter, because X is a confusing trademark

This is the only sane response.

[–] Witchfire 85 points 5 months ago (15 children)

As a trans person, I like to remind everyone you are not just allowed but encouraged to deadname Twitter

[–] morphballganon 55 points 5 months ago

Calling it deadnaming implies Twitter chose the name X. Twitter did not make that decision, thus calling Twitter Twitter is in no danger of offending Twitter.

[–] [email protected] 34 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Going to deadname Twitter as long as musk is deadnaming his daughter

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 months ago

Oohhh that’s a good one.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 5 months ago (1 children)

...what the heck is "deadnaming"?

[–] Witchfire 24 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (2 children)

Using a trans persons's birth name rather than their preferred name. If done purposefully, it's extremely insulting.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 5 months ago

Thanks, I hadn't heard the term.

Ooh. Excellent point. I will be disrespectfully deadnaming Twitter from now on.

We should stop calling it.

[–] [email protected] 49 points 5 months ago (2 children)
[–] [email protected] 18 points 5 months ago (3 children)

And Meta will always be Facebook

Just do what The Register does

Twitter, the social media service now calling itself X,

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 months ago

Respect, but... No.

[–] cashews_best_nut 37 points 5 months ago (3 children)

Xitter. Pronounced shitter.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Does that make tweets xeets, pronounced shits?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Yes, yes it does. You xit xeets on the xitter.

Tweets are Xcrements

[–] scottywh 10 points 5 months ago

The only acceptable answer

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago

And tweets are xits

[–] [email protected] 23 points 5 months ago

It's much easier to simply keep calling it Twitter. Further syllables add nothing.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Or we can call it by the past tense "Twat".

[–] DigitalTraveler42 16 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Just call it Shitter, because that's what it is.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago

Spelled "Xitter"

[–] KmlSlmk64 16 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Or you could call it what Linus on Wan show by Linus Tech Tips YT channel made up: ex-Twitter You essentially say both of the names and the fact that Twitter is the "old name". But as a F-u to Musk, we should just call it Twitter.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 months ago (3 children)
[–] Emwe 5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Is my brain meant to pronounce this as Shitter?

Just use the URL: twitter.com

[–] habitualTartare 12 points 5 months ago (3 children)

X-twitter is my personal favorite. Ex-twitter works too.

Twitter, formerly know as successful

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

I still use the old names; Facebook, Twitter
I don't care if they change their names. Less brain power used to stick to an old name most (still) know.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 months ago

Facebook is still called that. The social media platform, that is; the company that runs it is now called Meta, and it makes sense to distinguish those.

[–] ohlaph 7 points 5 months ago

What about just "Ten"?

[–] xkforce 7 points 5 months ago

Its literally twitter.com and I despise musk so its called twitter for all of time.

[–] mawkishdave 6 points 5 months ago

The dumpster fire formally called Twitter.

[–] thefloweracidic 6 points 5 months ago

I say we just ignore it, everytime someone mentions it one red blood cell enters the Muskian dick

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago

I ignore it whenever possible but if I do say anything, it's called Twitter

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago

Whenever it occurs in spoken conversation, I call it X to highlight the absurdity of the rebranding. The other person either needs an explanation or a few seconds to figure out what I mean.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I pronounce it “not c” instead of x

eXitter seems to be the correct name at the moment.

[–] gilokee 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

x can be pronounced as sh, so...shitter?
