I think the abbreviation CCP is already taken…

Maybe a different name would be best.

[–] [email protected] 52 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Why don't we just leave out the middle name? We could just have Clair Patterson day, or CP day. Surely that wouldn't confuse the internet, right?

[–] ilikecoffee 27 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yikes.. Maybe let's just do "Patterson Day" :)

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

I like myself a good P day

[–] PowerGloveSoBad 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nooooope. Hmm. How about International Clair Patterson day, or ICP day? Surely there are no negative connotations for ICP in the scientific community

"It's all around you, you don't even know it"

Ngl, that fits pretty well with lead from car exhaust

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

Happy Make Inhaling Lead Forbidden Day.

Lemmygrad/Hexbear and the rest of Lemmy can find a common denominator at last.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

It would be very on brand for ccp to just steal the name lol

[–] captainlezbian 47 points 1 year ago (3 children)

CCP means something very different on Lemmy lol

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Yea all the commies are going to be disappointed after reading the text in the image

[–] TeaHands 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It'll always be CCP Games, to me.

Chinese Communist Party

Why are people celebrating his death day? Dude was born June 2nd, why not make that the holiday?

[–] KepBen 15 points 1 year ago

The day he died is the day we failed to celebrate him for the last time; we're not celebrating we're commemorating.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Why do Christians celebrate Good Friday, when we're at it?

[–] GabrielBell12fi 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I do have a joke about that, but eight people have told me it's in bad taste, so I had to stop telling it.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Hello, sorry I'm late. I am your audience for the poor taste/dark humour jokes.
When does the telling start?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What's the joke? Or was that the joke and I don't get it?

[–] GabrielBell12fi 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

(cue joke)

When I was younger everyone kept asking me "Have you found Jesus?"

When I was on the street, when I was walking through shopping centres, when I was in the Student Union.

"Have you found Jesus?"

Eventually I got sick of it, and one day I snapped.

Someone asked me "Have you found Jesus?" and I turned to them I said "You've lost him? Again? What is it with you people losing Jesus? You know what you should do? You should do what they did in the olden days and nail him to a cross -- that way you'll always know where he is!!"

Which turned out to be the wrong thing to say to the Arch Bishop, but hey -- you live and learn.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Hah! I like it!

[–] Wilzax 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I mean far more Christians celebrate Christmas than good Friday

[–] Death_Equity 3 points 1 year ago

Which is funny given the actual significance of that appropriated celebration.

[–] agent_flounder 3 points 1 year ago

But then we have to wait for months :(

Let's party now! 🎉 Woo hoo \o/

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

¿Porque no los dos?

[–] GabrielBell12fi 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well -- not to put a damper on things, but this year, on the 2nd of June, nearly 300 people died and over 1,200 people were injured in one of the most horrific train crashes in recent memory.

So that might be one reason why they didn't want to mark it this year in particular.

It's also the anniversary of the formation of the PLO and the coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Whether either of these matter to any given person I suppose depends on the person.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 year ago

You can say something like this about every single date.

[–] [email protected] 40 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Can we also take a minute to appreciate the guy that invented the lead additive and pushed for its adoption despite knowing the risks? I forgot his name but that fucker should live on in infamy.

[–] meeeeetch 58 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thomas Midgley, Jr.

Also invented CFCs (the stuff that put the hole in the ozone layer).

In his later years, he had limited mobility, so he designed a system of pulleys and levers to give him some degree of independence. Eventually, he was found strangled by his contraption.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 year ago

Eventually, he was found strangled by his contraption.

Well it's only fitting that one of his inventions should eventually be his downfall. Unfortunately it's was the wrong one, and a little too late.

[–] r_13 27 points 1 year ago

Thomas Midgley Jr.

He not only put lead in petrol but also CFCs in refrigerants. He killed the air and the ozone layer above.

Oh so this has nothing to do with that Chinese Communist Party pamphlet a petitioner handed out to me at the beach a couple weeks ago?

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago (2 children)

What? This abbreviation is fucking stupid. CCP in it's mainstream abbreviation stands for Chinese Communist Party. Not a scientist

[–] Confuzzeled 7 points 1 year ago

I'm not 100 percent sure but having looked at the meme again I think that's the joke.

Increasing decrease.

[–] Gradually_Adjusting 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Adding this to the list of grim yet sweet holidays only I celebrate.

Anyone else for Arkhipov day?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just how many times did a Soviet officer refuse to start nuclear war, that's #2 in this thread!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

We owe some big debts to some random dude going "No I don't think I will press the button that ends the world".

[–] agent_flounder 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sure. Who or what is Arkhipov?

[–] Gradually_Adjusting 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] agent_flounder 3 points 1 year ago

Ah right that guy. Thank you Vasiliy Arkhipov! o7

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Let's also remember Robert A. Kehoe who sell his soul to the lead industry to stop any changes. May he rest in piss 🙏

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Happy birthday Mr!

Single handedly improved HEALTH AND SAFETY for the public and from the public. 👍👌😘🎉

[–] treesapx 6 points 1 year ago

I shall include this similarly to Stanislav Petrov Day.

Hey, there's been "an increasing decrease of violent crime," y'all
