...and slash regulations. I know this has always been their goal but damn. He doesn't even need anything more, he has almost everything money can buy, and he thought, "ok, I have to try to buy the government".

When you have this much money, the life is just a game

This is beginning to sound a lot like Cyberpunk. Corporations act like governments while NUSA takes a backseat.

Mike Pondsmith just extrapolated the trends he saw in the society - corporatism, drugs, plastic surgeries, stress, crime, prostitution. He just pushed these things to the extreme and put in scifi setting. This isn't just Trump thing, this is happening for decades now.

The drug adled guy who caused Twitter to lose 85% of its value and to become a racist hate filled Russian propaganda machine?

This should be good.

Xitter is worth as much as it was estimated before he paid an absurdly over market price for it but it won't matter because he got what he wanted out of it and will make all that money back by siding with fascism. So in reality, Xitter didn't lose any money, Elon just threw away a bunch of billions to make even more later and it worked. America chose this.

[–] MapleEngineer 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think you give Musk WAY too much credit.

[–] CosmoNova 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think you give the rest of America too much credit if you think a dumbass like him wouldn't get rewarded for his unhinged ruthlessness. The country is essentially a giant casino for billionaires at this point and Elon won by betting an absurd amount on red.

Creating a second department to do something there already is a department for so you can have funni name is peak efficiency.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 month ago

And two heads instead of one? Peak efficiency!

[–] Mirshe 13 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Nah, this one's OFFFICIALLY non-governmental and just makes "suggestions". Because you can't just create new departments, nor get rid of them, without Congressional approval.

Wtf is up with this timeline?

[–] apemint 72 points 1 month ago (3 children)

We're in the one where Biff takes the Almanac back to the past.

[–] [email protected] 49 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Makes even more sense when you realize Biff was based on Donald Trump!

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago

This feels more and more like a self-fulfilling prophecy of the worse kind

50+% America, you'll get what you wanted. Also those who didn't vote will get what they deserve.

[–] Jumi 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (4 children)

Since only somewhere around 65% of people voted and Trump got almost half the votes that means approximately 2/3rds of Americans are at least okay with having Trump as president and fascists in power.

I feel like I fell in a parallel universe with the dumbest possible timeline sometime in the mid 2010s

Let me blurt it out here, people: you are looking at your next president. And I am aware that, currently, by law, a non american can not be elected for office.

yet

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

By law, neither can an insurrectionist, but here we are.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago (5 children)

You are.

I'm outside the lines watching the circus burn, keeping my hopes up the audience notices it and get out while there is time.

Laws mean nothing any more. Both houses of Congress are Republican and the Supreme Court has several Trump supporters on it. No one with any power will stop him.

[–] [email protected] 34 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Are you fucking kidding me? The US is ruled by memes now. How long until they reach out to Scumbag Steve or Success Kid?

Isn't this kinda a conflict of interest

[–] spankmonkey 40 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Pretty sure having one or more conflicts of interest is a requirement for Republicans and their allies.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 month ago

Wait until you realize that it’s not just Republicans….

Set the rivers on fire again!

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 month ago

Congratulations America. You put the reins of power in the hands of toddlers coming up with cool names for made up comic book superheroes.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The man who's cars kill people, should be in charge of efficiency. Perfect. Everything goes so much better when massive numbers of people die. Melon Head Musk is such a waste of DNA.

[–] CosmoNova 11 points 1 month ago

Hey, it's not only his cars that kill people, his assembly lines kill them too! And now he'll be in charge of all the assembly lines.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago (2 children)

How many senators or house members do we need to lobby to stop this?

More importantly, how do I get into a position to even begin attempting to lobby them?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Lobbying against the rich lobbying with more money to take down restrictions that will free up more money for them. Maybe I'm just a bit bleak about it all, but my pessimism can't see how it would work.

Kabosu didn't die for this

[–] CosmoNova 9 points 1 month ago

And "efficiency" directly translates to "maximizing human exploitation" for Elon. I mean holy crap what has the US elected themselves into?
