Keep pushing him until he starts saying slurs out loud, hopefully during a debate or something like that. That'd be hilarious

MAGA types like the Republicans because of their bigotry. This won't deter anyone, except perhaps a few waverers. But how many are wavering after all these years of seeing exactly what Trump is about?

But how many are wavering after all these years of seeing exactly what Trump is about?

You know, I used to ask myself that too. Until the 2020 election, where Trump got more votes than any candidate in history save one- the man who beat him. After blowing up the economy and killing Americans with COVID and tanking our international standing, more Americans decided to vote for him than the first time.

Never underestimate the gobsmacking stupidity of American voters. Apparently some voters are like cicadas: they only emerge once every four years to vote, and have no recollection of what's happened since the last election, so they can be temporarily persuaded to support either candidate. Some of those people will think that Trump's bigotry is too far.

[–] EmpathicVagrant 6 points 2 months ago

The maga group is like that genital fungus the cicadas get where they can only act to spread it.

There's people like my moms who generally think they align with republicans because they think democrats will make them poor to make the poor rich. But they won't vote republican because of homophobia. Seemed like Trump was trying to distance himself from homophobia for a little bit, so stuff like this will continue to keep votes away. I don't think they'd vote for Trump regardless, but if they noticed the attempt at pandering followed by overt homophobia, it could continue keeping people rightfully distrustful of republicans for decades.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart 24 points 2 months ago

It wouldn’t stop anyone from voting for him who have already decided.

It actually might make a segment of the population like him more.

Does anyone have "donnie using the n word in a presidential debate" on his 2024 bingo card?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

Debating on whether he drops an N, B, or C first...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Do you have "Trump actually attends a presidential debate" on your bingo card?

[–] [email protected] 68 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I swear the dude has been in "Complete meltdown" for ages. When does he stop melting down and start being puddle of melted person?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago

How long did it take Giuliani to start showing his meltdown?

[–] EmpathicVagrant 5 points 2 months ago

About forty years from now.

[–] NegativeInf 49 points 2 months ago

That describes the last decade of Trump. Keep squeezing.

[–] DarkDecay 48 points 2 months ago

Maybe if he wasn't so old. Or a convicted felon. Or suffering from massive dementia. He might be handling this better... nah it's trump he'll keep crying forever lol

[–] danc4498 44 points 2 months ago (4 children)

While I love this, I anticipate September and October will be completely different. I hope Harris and Walz are prepared for a Trump campaign that isn’t batshit crazy.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 2 months ago (1 children)

a Trump campaign that isn’t batshit crazy.

I don't think I've ever seen such a thing, but I take your greater point. Shit slides off trump like a freshly polished waterslide. Harris and Walz need to be ready for a ceaseless torrent of hate speech, underhanded tactics, bad faith arguments, and attempted treason.

[–] P00ptart 4 points 2 months ago

As well as landfills worth of disinformation.

[–] just_another_person 17 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I'm pretty sure Trump has just given up. He's already said he would leave the country, but I'm 100% positive he's now preparing to flee from prosecution.

[–] billwashere 27 points 2 months ago

He's given up campaigning because he has people telling him it won't matter because they plan on installing him "other ways". He thinks he doesn't have to win.

[–] danc4498 15 points 2 months ago

This is kind of my point. I think this is the mentality that breaks people when Trump does a 180 in September. There is way too much time left in this campaign to think he’s given up.

[–] frigidaphelion 12 points 2 months ago (2 children)

They're just gonna pull their shit together all of a sudden? Im relatively ingorant of politics/elections, so is that a common occurrence?

[–] danc4498 13 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Yes. Honestly, all Trump has to do is stop whining about Kamala and Walz and start talking about immigration and the economy and this entire race would feel WAY different.

I am willing to bet after the DNC and closer to the debate, Trump will start to realize his current tactics are going to lose him the election. And he will start listening to his advisors again.

[–] cybersandwich 11 points 2 months ago (2 children)

He's gonna start talking about crime as well. Republicans always do

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 months ago

we are due for a scary migrant caravan any day now

[–] danc4498 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

True, and they excel at it!

[–] FuglyDuck 2 points 2 months ago

Not really, they’re always getting caught.

[–] frigidaphelion 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] danc4498 2 points 2 months ago

Don’t get complacent. That’s all you gotta remember.

[–] Sarothazrom 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

We're honestly lucky that the GOP landed on Trump as their dictator wannabe.

If it was someone with actual intelligence and political knowledge, we'd be utterly fucked.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I feel like you find less intelligence in the right wing because their positions are stupid.

Like, you have to be a fool to believe conspiracy theories or racist nonsense.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

You don't have to be a fool to exploit those things though.

[–] FuglyDuck 11 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Even the 2016 campaign was batshit crazy.

But at the time, that actually worked. In large part because that’s just how bad the dems fucked up- first in picking Clinton then in her mismanaged campaign.

It feels like maybe they learned some lessons- an important one being that the republicans aren’t playing by rules anymore, and following them is just gonna set you up for failure.

[–] danc4498 5 points 2 months ago

When I think Trump being “not batshit crazy” I think of the first debate against Biden. Sure every word he spoke was a lie, but he came across as calm and collected. People responded well to that version of Trump.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

Who chages his dispers?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

Let's hope this stretches until the election, otherwise the republicans might be able to find a better candidate
