I look forward to never having to hear the Trump name again.

And having boring politics again! Remember the times when it wasn't terrifying to look at the news?

I politically matured during the Bush II years. I don't ever remember being relaxed about politics.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife 4 points 4 months ago

I was relaxed about politics through the '90s because we had a Democrat president, a budget that was not just balanced but had an actual fucking surplus (there were actual debates about what to spend the surplus on), and a vice president that looked like a sure shot to continue control of the white house and who actually understood technology and was concerned about the environment. And then I woke up the morning after the 2000 election and realized what a complete shit show our country had become.

tbf I used to think i didn't care about politics until this trump guy came along...

What if tries to run again in 2028 and 2032? If he even lives that long

[–] [email protected] 15 points 4 months ago

Really hoping for a heart attack the day after poll results show he has lost abysmally.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 months ago (2 children)

tbh if trump loses twice in a row it must become clear for the republicans that they should look for a less extreme candidate... right?

[–] samokosik 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

or a more extreme one don’t underestimate them ;)

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

but how would that help them

[–] jose1324 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 months ago

in thinking the republicans want to be able to win an election again?

[–] samus12345 3 points 4 months ago

No, they've decided they can't survive without his base, so they're stuck with him for the rest of his life, whether he's in office or not.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Oh, he'll just be back in 2028. People probably won't even bother to take down their "Trump 2020" signs.

[–] Flying_Hellfish 5 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Someone near me taped over Pence and just wrote in Vance on their yard sign when they announced the nomination. I assume he spent too much on MAGA hats and stickers to afford a new sign.

[–] rustyfish -5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I’m afraid this won’t happen anytime soon. The media will flock to him over and over again like flies on a pile of shit. The only way for this to stop…well, let’s say we missed our chance by two inches.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

He seemed mostly out of the news cycle the past four years, no? Apart from the occasional update from one of his trials.

[–] samus12345 1 points 4 months ago

Yes, it was so nice those few years that the media didn't pretend that what he said mattered.

Everyone who was calling Biden too old three days ago are now like:

[–] [email protected] 21 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (3 children)

Ultimately the problem with Biden wasn't his age (although that was a contributing factor); it was that he wasn't going to win.

Also, Harris is not as blonde as Hillary, and Hillary barely lost, so I like her chances.

[–] Orbituary 37 points 4 months ago (2 children)

"the ultimate problem with paper isn't that it's white; it's that it's thin."

Biden's problem was that he was old, out of touch, and forced upon us by the DNC. Harris has energy. I may not agree with her fully, but she is a solid contender against Cheeto Benito.

Fuck Trump.

[–] HRDS_654 22 points 4 months ago (2 children)

The worst part is that almost everyone was telling the DNC it was the wrong call, and they ignored people out of fear that they would lose. I fucking hate the DNC, but I hate the RNC more.

[–] Orbituary 15 points 4 months ago

Why listen to the voters? It's not like this is a democracy.

[–] [email protected] -5 points 4 months ago

So much hate!

[–] [email protected] 21 points 4 months ago

I thought Biden had no chance to win before the debate, but the debate wasn't even the killing blow. His campaign was utterly and undeniably dead after the media response to the debate. We can acknowledge whatever other flaws he has or what else might have contributed, but that's what I believe was the point of no return.

And yes, fuck Trump.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago

Yeah, I know.

[–] Ensign_Crab 18 points 4 months ago

Biden was too old three days ago and is three days older now.

I'm delighted that we have a better candidate now.

[–] NineMileTower 41 points 4 months ago

Make America Boring Again

[–] Buffalox 11 points 4 months ago

I suppose a presidential order can stop Trump now, at Biden's leisure.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 months ago

Corporate tax should be at least as high as personal income tax

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago (3 children)

According to to polls aggregated by 538, she's doing better than Biden, but still behind Trump.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

That's great, but it's also a national poll. It doesn't account for Trump's electoral college advantage.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago

Polls. Do. Not. Matter.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

538 isn't what it once was, they were purchased a few elections ago, and Nate Silver took his algorithms with him when he left he started the Silver Bulletin. He says it's too soon to make predictions. https://www.natesilver.net/p/7-quick-thoughts-on-the-latest-harris
