No matter their reputation, every furry I've ever met has been a decent person.

My daughter likes to point out that the kids in her old school hated furries but loved the sports mascot guy in a fursuit.

[–] [email protected] 57 points 7 months ago (2 children)

there are definitely some shitty ones, but in general, the community fosters good people, and good interactions, it's supposed to be an escapism after all.

[–] Jiggle_Physics 36 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Yeah the furry con near were I used to work ended up developing their own police because of how many local businesses were banning them for disruptive behavior, hygiene, and public displays of sexual behavior.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 7 months ago

yeah that sounds about right.

Sure, there are assholes in any group. That just means furries are people.

I'm still waiting for the cat girls...

Edit: For whoever is downvoting me, this is literally the same group that hacked a nuclear research lab last year. Their demand was that they begin serious research into the creation of real life catgirls.

[–] FlyingSquid 77 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I didn't downvote you, but the context is appreciated because I didn't know why you said that.

[–] capt_wolf 37 points 7 months ago

My bad! I'm honestly surprised they didn't mention it in the article! It's journalistic gold!

Among highly skilled hackers, I wonder what percentage are either on the spectrum, furry, or LGBTQ (or some combination thereof). It's got to be at least 50%. Anyway, great work here!

[–] TipRing 59 points 7 months ago (4 children)

Not sure about hackers but it's kind of a meme among software developers that senior devs are more likely to be trans, furry or both.

[–] [email protected] 51 points 7 months ago (3 children)

There's jokes about a picture of furries on a plane, that if it goes down, the entirety of internet infrastructure would collapse

[–] [email protected] 45 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Furcons need designated survivor protocols

[–] [email protected] 14 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

Is there an r/NoContext equivalent for lemmy? I feel like this belongs there. BrandNewSentence as well.

Furries on a plane sounds like a great parody title

The worst part is that Don McLean may not be around to write a kick ass song about it should it happen.

Edit: Do a couple of you not know what the song American Pie is about?

The other 50% are people who don't know it yet but are just in their fascist arc on their way to self acceptance.

[–] Suavevillain 70 points 7 months ago

Based Furries. Fuck Transphobes.

Earlier this year, SiegedSec claimed to have hacked the River Valley Church of Burnsville, Minnesota — and to have spent $6,200 in church funds to purchase 100 inflatable sea lions

I would have forced them to spend $100 on as many shelters and food kitchens that they could find, and then see if River Valley would try to do a charge back on each one.

[last lines] TV Anchorman: In a surprise announcement, the Republican National Committee has revealed it is bankrupt. A spokesman for the party said they had plenty of money in their accounts last week, but today they just don't know where the money has gone. But not everybody is going begging. Amnesty International, Greenpeace and the United Negro College Fund announced record earnings this week, due mostly to large, anonymous donations.

Still beats me how they manage to use the keyboard with those big fluffy paws...

They lay on your lap whilst they dictate their mischievous code.

I will never get tired of seeing headlines that start with “Gay furry hackers” because if the Venn diagram is that intersectional, it’s schaudenfreude story time with spicy drops! 🍿

[–] [email protected] 41 points 7 months ago

Earlier this year, SiegedSec claimed to have hacked the River Valley Church of Burnsville, Minnesota — and to have spent $6,200 in church funds to purchase 100 inflatable sea lions — after its lead pastor, Rob Ketterling, allegedly made transphobic remarks. In the past, Ketterling said the legalization of gay marriage would lead to the legalization of pedophilia, polygamy, and bestiality.

That's pretty awesome.

[–] egeres 40 points 7 months ago (2 children)

In the same fashion that elves were like the best blacksmiths in middle earth, I love how furries specifically tend to be very high in the "computer power" scale

I can't help it but regardless of the context the phrase "Gay Furry Hackers" will always seem a little funny to me.... Not sure why bain is a weird place.

Let's hope we hear about a lot more action from them.

Surprisingly this is not the first time I have seen a sentence like this.

[–] Klear 31 points 7 months ago

I'm pretty sure I've seen this one before, actually.

"claim to have stolen 6200 dollars and spent it on 100 inflatable sea lions"

Honestly, i'm not even sure this is a crime. Can you imagine being a juror in court for this shit?

[–] Neon 23 points 7 months ago

Fuck you too.

Sincerely, a Arachnophobe

[–] FlyingSquid 19 points 7 months ago (3 children)

Unlike the other two people, I suffer from a phobia of not being fucked, so I appreciate it.

They deleted all the files in Real America’s Voice's S3 bucket, but it seems like it'd be more mischievous to upload larger and larger files to it over time to make them wonder why their bills are skyrocketing. That and randomly change the permissions of a few files per day, delete data from the middle of files, etc.

Of course, I would never do such a thing.

Alright, which one of you did this?

[–] BlackPenguins 30 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (2 children)

We need more grey hat hackers in this world.

[–] RGB3x3 27 points 7 months ago (1 children)

We need more gay hat hackers in this world.

I like that the idea that gay furries being the ones that did them in likely makes them that much more mad about getting caught.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 7 months ago

I ain't going to be against anyone who exposes these distributors of hatred.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 7 months ago

User data leaked, AWS S3 buckets deleted, and user data wiped :3

hahahahahaha!!!

[–] [email protected] 19 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Yoooo isn’t this the group that hacked ~~the government~~ a nuclear lab and NATO in the past?

Mad respect for their praxis on this one, ngl

edit: https://www.theregister.com/2023/10/04/nato_data_attack/

[–] captainlezbian 18 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)
