Why do these people think Jesus needs an ad campaign?

[–] cmbabul 68 points 11 months ago

They quite literally believe their primary reason for existence is to advertise for him

[–] [email protected] 43 points 11 months ago (1 children)

You'd think a deity could spread his message directly without the middlemen.

[–] [email protected] 55 points 11 months ago

He can't. He's also terrible with money and needs your help.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 11 months ago

They think their religion is under attack in mostly white affluent suburban American neighborhoods.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 11 months ago

Because they fearfully recognize their lives aren't advertisement enough.

Oh, wow. Other than one tongue-in-cheek meme I posted right after the Rexodus, I completely forgot HGU was a thing.

Just think of how many hungry families could be fed with the money they're spending on a Superb Owl ad.

[–] Chocrates 17 points 11 months ago

My first thought was, meh I don't want to watch that crap but I don't watch the superbowl so more power to them. But yeah that Billion dollars could have been used to house the unhoused or provide help to the migrants at the southern border that we are apparently getting invaded by

:(

Using money to feed and shelter the poor, displaced and sick like Jesus would... nah

#HeGetSus... YEAH BABEEEE!

[–] [email protected] 10 points 11 months ago

Oh, it's probably the most expensive virtue signaling I've ever seen.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I bet more people would be Christians if Christians followed Christ.

[–] themeatbridge 9 points 11 months ago

No, you need to be pushy and controlling if you're going to abuse religious faith for personal gain.

[–] themeatbridge 32 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (3 children)

It's weird there aren't more "He Gets Us" parodies. Like, obviously you could do one with Satan, but what about a guy who makes custom vibrators and sex toys on etsy? Or maybe the reveal is that it's a kidnapper, and all the people are subtly asking for help, like that episode of the Twilight Zone with the psychic boy. "Sometimes, I feel like I don't hve control over my own life, and I just want to break free. but He gets us... He always gets us."

[–] [email protected] 16 points 11 months ago

Most of the Satan-based parodies I saw were pretty bad. They used medieval woodcut style imagery with demons and such.

I think a better and more effective style would be to mimic the ads more closely, using the same font and modern stock imagery and pithy half-sentences that are devoid of real meaning, but done with a more subversive take.

You’d want something that they could almost pass along themselves if they didn’t read it too closely.

[–] ohlaph 8 points 11 months ago

A pedophile in the church ad would ve hilarious.

[–] FuglyDuck 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

but what about a guy who makes custom vibrators and sex toys on etsy?

I’m gonna need a link…. You know. To, uh, make these parodies.

[–] themeatbridge 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I was joking, but apparently there are many sellers on etsy who customize adult sexy toys and whatnot.

Here's just one I picked at random, with whom I have no affiliation.

[–] FuglyDuck 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I’m sure there’s every kind of sex toy shop imaginable -and more than a few that can figure it out if you’re really out there.

[–] themeatbridge 2 points 11 months ago

He gets us.

[–] ThePantser 28 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Jesus went all in, not just the tip.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

How do you think Mary got so pregnant

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Mary was thiccc

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

Be like Jesus and really deep dick 'em.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 11 months ago

Jesus, who asked his followers to throw away all their worldly wealth, would be so happy he was being promoted by a billionaire.

[–] ohlaph 20 points 11 months ago

The don't push the gay agenda on me groupd sure wants to push their agenda on you.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Where do I donate to get a TST ad at the super bowl?

[–] [email protected] 19 points 11 months ago

Fuck Hobby Lobby.

[–] AncientFutureNow 18 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I never had a problem with their lifestyle until they started shoving it in our faces.

[–] 108 3 points 11 months ago

It’s like they are doing what they claim the LGBTQ community does

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

They do make a fair point - going deep is what makes most people shout out his name.

[–] Treczoks 17 points 11 months ago

So not even the ads are worth watching anymore?

[–] veganpizza69 16 points 11 months ago

The motivation behind the He Gets Us campaign, according to Green, is a desire to reshape public perception of Christians: “What we’re known as, as Christians, we’re known as haters,” he said in a podcast interview last year. “We’re beginning to be known as haters — we hate this group, we hate that group. But we’re not. We are people that have the very, very best love story ever written, and we need to tell that love story. So, our idea is, let’s tell the story. As a Christian, you should love everybody. Jesus loved everybody.”

There are few things more disturbing and hateful than Christian Love.

Gtfo with forcing your ideology on me. Fuck hobby lobby. Never getting a dime from me

[–] [email protected] 14 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Jesus was a Middle Eastern Socialist Jew

—Facts—

How say you White Republican Christians?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 11 months ago

Wait… does that mean we can take out anti-religion ads?

I mean, if you try to do that to Islam it’s a hate crime, but maybe we could get away with it targeting a paler demographic

[–] taanegl 7 points 11 months ago

This seems blasphemous.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Last time I accidentally ended up in a Hobby Lobby I asked an employee if there was an aisle for illegally stolen sumerian tablets, or if they were stored in the back.

She got extremely angry and threatened to call the police.

I was laughing as I walked out and she followed me, fuming, on the phone, calling the police.

Wonderful store, excellent customer service.

Neat story about being a dick to a retail employee

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

Just asking questions bro
If someone asked me that I’d laugh my ass off, but I’d never work at hobby lobby

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago

Jesus Went Balls-Deep Too.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Jesus would have cared for the Palestinians as well as the Jews.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 11 months ago

How long have you been anti semitic?

[–] i_am_a_cardboard_box 3 points 11 months ago

What the actual fuck!

Shania Twain is still touring?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago

The Scorsese commercial is way better.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I haven't thought about this since last June. And I don't watch sports ball, so this might be the only time I hear about it for a while.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I watched the playoffs for the first time ever this year, and holy shit that ad was cringe inducing.
