Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). 3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. 4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

Summary

Sen. Mitch McConnell announced he will not seek reelection in 2026, marking the end of his long career as a Republican leader.

The longest-serving Senate party leader, McConnell played a key role in shaping the Supreme Court, tax cuts, and major political battles but saw his influence wane amid Trump-era populism.

His departure signals a shift in the GOP, as a competitive race for his Kentucky Senate seat looms.

McConnell pledged to continue advocating for national defense and other priorities before retiring in January 2027.

And my Mario

Many more stairs in his future, I hope.

McConnell isn't the cool hero walking away from an explosion without looking back, like he thinks he is.

He's the Joker fiddling with the controls because the explosion didn't happen how he expected, and now when it finally does pop off he's shocked and runs.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

Idk. That was, overall the jokers plan. I would say Mitch would be a person that helped the joker gain access to plant the bombs, helped to place the bombs, complaining every once in a while about how it's bad to do this. After the explosion, he'll say how he never wanted that explosion to happen, and tried all he could.

Don't really care, the damage he did is permanent now. Just waiting to shit on his grave at this point.

Go die somewhere. Probably in the comfort you took away from millions of Americans. But I'm hoping it hurts as much as possible. I'm hoping that existential dread kicks into overdrive and all you feel is fear at the end.

I hope his last years are spent in agony. I hope the nurses let him stew in a shit filled diaper for weeks on end. I hope they don't feed him. I hope he has to endure unending bed lice and shingles.

I hope his last years are spent in agony.

Have you seen him recently? This troll loser doesn't even have one year left. Then I can dance a jig like I did when Limbaugh ate shit.

Fuck Mitch McConnell and everything he's done to bring down America. I hope he dies strangling on his own vomit in a gutter and his gravestone is only be surpassed in use as a toilet by Trump's when he finally snuffs it.

Damn, here I was, hoping his death would be a televised 40 minute 1000-yard stare as his body temp slowly sinks to ambient.

My prediction is that father time will ensure that this is true, because I don't think he survives until the 2026 midterms. When people start falling for no raisin, their days are limited.

[–] DrSleepless 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What happens when people start falling for raisins?

[–] BassTurd 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The brains take over the world.

(It was a reference to Futurama in case my reference was a bit to obscure, not an accidental typo)

[–] DarkFuture 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, this loser's tombstone is gonna read 1942-2025. This sad excuse for a human has reached the end of his line.

[–] BassTurd 2 points 1 day ago

Knock on wood.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago

Oh, didn’t want to stick around and deal with the bonfire he helped start?

[–] Makeitstop 8 points 1 day ago

Don't worry, I'm sure his replacement will be even worse.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's because he's been lately feeling a strange feeling of... having a smidge of humanity in him... IE he spoke up against a polio denier etc... He realizes that having 1% of normal human empathy, disqualifies him from the current republican party.

[–] Boddhisatva 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

he spoke up against a polio denier

Because he had polio. This is completely normal Republican behavior. They don't give a shit about stuff unless it affects them personally.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

Right, but the point is he's realized that he's been around long enough that enough things that affect him personally are coming into focus. Which is why he's stepping down.. so someone who hasn't been effected by polio can take his place, and support the things he can't bring himself to back.

(will note this is the opposite of a compliment, he's a piece of shit, and only stepping down because he realizes that there are limits on how big of a piece of shit he can be, so he's clearing the way for a newer piece of shit to continue the legacy).

With any luck he'll disappear off the face of the earth and stop defaming the honorable appearance of turtles throughout the world.
