the moment McConnell filibuster his own bill. I knew the GOP had gone full clown show. It's one's thing to disagree on policy and be against the people but I stop taking them seriously. When their whole platform is political maneuvering amd being anti Democrat. It's almost like we're living in a key and Peele sketch.

[–] Lost_My_Mind 15 points 2 months ago

C'mon now. Don't be so absurd.

........Key and Peele were actually funny, snd have charm. The GOP clearly lacks all of that.

[–] grue 89 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Because destroying the public's trust in democracy is what paves the way for fascism, and that's way more important to every Republican than the lives of their constituents.

God I hate how every reply in this thread is dark, and grim, but also true.

There was really only one comment in here that I think addressed what I believe to be the real issue: propaganda works. Especially when people are ignorant to how government works and have siloed themselves into realities created by their chosen propaganda outlets, refusing to look outside of them or to acknowledge their veracity.

Republicans can deny aid by the Republican speaker of the house not calling an emergency session and then Trump and Fox News can blame Biden for something he has no control over. Something similar is happening with DeSantis. I imagine the recent news about Florida being potentially a toss up state has them a bit worried so they're pushing whatever angle they can to attack Democrats.

As to why they would do this at all, I think that's kind of obvious. Power and money. The Republican party have pretty much completed their takeover of the courts and the heritage foundation can institute their psychotic wishlist (project 2025) without resistance. Winning this election means they win indefinitely.

Stealing this.
They did the same thing with the border too.
Please post it widely.

How come Florida voters keep electing people who hold up hurricane relief?

[–] [email protected] 35 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Because they are uninformed and have been brainwashed by GOP propaganda. Basically the same reason why people all over the world vote against their own interest.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago

All those rich pensioners know exactly what they are voting for and fully approve of it. They don't mind pulling up the ladder behind them.

[–] barsquid 10 points 2 months ago

Their priority is white supremacist hierarchy rather than their neighbors' lives.

[–] [email protected] 37 points 2 months ago

"Democracy is at stake" was not hyperbole. This is what a fascistic takeover looks like.

Because Rubepublicans are children in suits, mobsters, and Russian Assets cosplaying government officials. If you don't kiss the ring you dont get a thing.

Many of them think that hurricane relief that they use is different than the hurricane relief the republicans oppose. They currently believe that FEMA grounded rescue helicopters from saving people after Helene because of budget constraints, and that their budget is spent on relocating refugees (of course that’s not the term they use) to political battleground states instead. They think that by voting against the relief they are preserving it

[–] Don_Dickle 1 points 2 months ago

Um no offense to you but that makes my head heart trying to fathom that.

Many Republicans are sponsored and bribed by fascist powers such as Putin's Russia. They are under orders to take actions intended to weaken American industry, government, and society. This includes, for instance, sabotaging infrastructure projects, blocking disaster preparedness and relief, and fomenting political violence. The long-range goal is to make America incapable of projecting force to protect its international allies, global trade, etc.; a medium-range goal is to restore a regime broadly supportive of the international fascist movement.

(Just consider: Why does Putin support Trump? Putin doesn't want to make America great; he wants to make America incapable — especially, incapable of defending Ukraine and, ultimately, other European allies. Putin predicts that Trump/Vance will accomplish that goal.)

[–] Don_Dickle 0 points 2 months ago

Yea but at one point did Putin say he liked Biden?

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 months ago

The republicans are doing their typical thing where they block money from getting to people in need so that they can score political brownie points with smooth brain voters. This is now translating to them harassing FEMA folks that are simply there to provide help.

I live in Florida (bailing ASAP) and I wish nothing but a slow death for DeSantis and his asshole cronies.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Because the Republican party is a party of suffering. They get off to it

[–] Lost_My_Mind 2 points 2 months ago

Stop being right......

[–] roofuskit 10 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Can you explain your question? I know the speaker is not planning to bring the house back in session, but what is Desantis doing?

[–] Don_Dickle 4 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Not returning Phone Calls when Biden and Harris want to do an Ex Order to give them something like 5 billion dollars along with NC and Georgia

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

Jesús fucking Christ, that’s pure evil.

[–] roofuskit 1 points 2 months ago

Ah yes, typical Ronald the fascist clown, playing politics with the lives of his constituents.

[–] robolemmy 10 points 2 months ago

If you're talking about the florida gov not taking Biden and Harriss's calls, that won't hold up aid at all. He has spoken with the head of FEMA, which is what actually starts the ball rolling.

If you're referring to the GOP voting against FEMA and disaster relief funding bills... fuckifiknow

[–] hperrin 6 points 2 months ago

You can do literally anything to hurt your constituents when you have a propaganda machine that will convince them it was your opponents who did it.

[–] cbarrick 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Low voter turnout benefits Republicans.

It's easier to prevent people from voting against you than it is to convert people to vote for you.

The game plan is to ensure chaos continues for the next few weeks until the election, in the hopes that people will be too busy trying to survive than to vote.

[–] Lost_My_Mind 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Low voter turnout benefits Republicans.

Oh god. I just had a dark thought. What if they WANT the citizens to suffer, for at least a month, so they're so displaced that they don't vote.....because they're homeless, for the past month, and just trying to survive?

I'm not saying that IS what's happening. I have no proof. I'm just saying that I wouldn't put it past them.

[–] cbarrick 4 points 2 months ago

That's exactly what I'm hinting at.

My hypothesis is that this is, in fact, the case.

Maybe the reps aren't thinking this deliberately, but I suppose some in R strategy has realized this. They can tell the reps something simple like "FEMA response is likely to be bad for us in the election," and the reps can be willfully ignorant, refusing to consider the consequences of their inaction.

[–] KombatWombat 3 points 2 months ago

None of you should explain anything to five year olds.

[–] inclementimmigrant 3 points 2 months ago

Because the majority of Americans are fucking stupid and don't read news but consume propaganda as facts like Republican Larry Craig gobbles cock.

[–] Siegfried 1 points 2 months ago

I thought florida was about continues suffering

[–] paddirn 0 points 2 months ago

Because their voters are stupid enough to keep voting for them.

[–] SeattleRain -2 points 2 months ago

Red state voters are cucks. They love it. And will blame on democrats and black people afterward.
