It totally does... But I kind of want it anyway

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 month ago

It’s actually a really impressive bit of engineering and craft. Making the doors work around the back wheel wells because of the extreme chassis shortening is difficult work.

Also the fuel tank, drive shaft, exhaust, brake lines, and wiring all had to be modified to work too. Even the parking brake would have had to be changed to keep working.

If this were real, it might actually be a lot of fun, kinda reminds me of an obese Suzuki Samurai lol

[–] EvilBit 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Every time I saw one of those I wanted to put a penny in the back to make it do a wheelie.

I've seen a couple people with those Smart Fortwos driving around with a big turn key sticking out the back as a joke.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

The ones painted like the yellow and orange toy cars make me unreasonably happy.

I would unironically love to drive something like that. Yes, I see the many ridiculous things about it. Don't care!

Haha, is that a tiny winch in there? I love it!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I don't know what that means, but I'm upvoting it because I feel like I should!

I had no idea what those were called, thank you! 🙂

You wouldn't. It will be quite gutless, even if re-geared, and the steering incredibly washy. Slight uphill will be your nemesis.

Bet that would be fun to take off road. The dimensions are similar to a jeep.

[–] PriorityMotif 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I was thinking it is probably a Jeep frame.

I imagine that more trucks would look like this if they were actually used the way certain people claim.

[–] MisterFrog 4 points 1 month ago

You mean, as an emotional support vehicle?

[–] mechoman444 23 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It actually looks kinda cool...

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago

Yeah, its like someone tried to convert a Toyota pickup into a 2-door jeep.

I'm actually really down with this concept.

Man, I want to learn how to make cars like that with a welding torch and a good set of tools.

[–] grue 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] Tylerdurdon 2 points 1 month ago

That's pretty cool! I like build vids a lot. This one looks specifically geared to off-road and that's not what drew me to the pic. I'm a weirdo that like cars with funny proportions/looks. I could imagine cutting away sheet metal and making some stupid huge wheels fit in there for no good reason other than look. You couldn't keep the profile and have adequate suspension, so it would have to ride on stiffer suspension, making it rather useless but to mess around with in some light dirt/mud or something. Of course you'd have to put a very powerful rotary in there to complete the mess, but it would be a ride.

You think the OP image is AI? How do you figure? (Or maybe my brain just put too much emphasas on the word "without" and you aren't saying the OP image is AI.)

[–] friend_of_satan 7 points 1 month ago

I wasn't implying the image was made with AI. I was telling people they can learn to do this without using AI. I assume this image was made with photoshop, but people who had never seen these before would probably assume it's AI.

[–] dual_sport_dork 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If you stick a penny in the back will it do a wheelie, too?

[–] EvilBit 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Glad to know I’m not the only old-ass person here who thinks the same thing.

All of the poor front visibility with none of the "I actually need a truck" use cases

It looks like you drive it remotely.

You say that like it's a bad thing

[–] DarkCloud 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (4 children)

It looks great! Don't know why that ahole is making that face.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago (5 children)

He doesn't understand that some men don't need their vehicle size to compensate for their tiny manhood (and I don't mean penis). Real men have fun and don't give a fuck, because they fuck. Like what you like with enthusiasm. Don't hurt other people or put down their joy. Support your fellows and sheilas. Cook an excellent meal. Mend your clothes. Be nuturing. Be kind. Don't be toxic. Be a fuckin' man. Or woman. Or whatever. I don't care. Be you. Be excellent to each other. Sorry, rant over.

It’s not a look of disgust. It’s the face of desire, of yearning.

Did any of you had the HotWheels ones that had magnets and could climb the door of your fridge?

[–] CluckN 13 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Nah but my step-dad had a belt that made the Indiana Jones whip noise.

Anybody who liked toy trucks would love that weird thing in the op.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

In what universe would that be?

[–] avguser 5 points 1 month ago

It's a taquito.

[–] niktemadur 5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Where's that bottom image from? I can't place it, but if I was a betting man I'd say that's from the flash-forward in the finale of the penultimate season of LOST, when the doctor is back in the real world, popping pills and swigging Jack Daniels.

I used to know someone who drove one almost like this. It was a RAV4 though. He was a swole short stack with bouncy blond curls who was always laughing and flirting and the car fit his personality to a T.

[–] portuga 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah but look at it go… almost in a straight line

It’s kinda cute. I wouldn’t buy it, but I’d happily borrow it.
