Never thought I’d see the day where he censored a bunch of white dudes but here we are.

[–] [email protected] 147 points 3 months ago (6 children)

He is not a free speech absolutist that’s for sure

[–] [email protected] 84 points 3 months ago (1 children)

He’s more of an absolute piss baby

[–] TheGrandNagus 18 points 3 months ago (3 children)

I've heard Musk referred to as a piss baby moreso than other dickheads in the public eye.

Is there some story I've missed out on, or is it just a generic insult that's somehow stuck to Musk more than it has to others?

[–] [email protected] 19 points 3 months ago

It's essentially saying he's a whiny little bitch, it isn't specific to him

[–] EvilBit 14 points 3 months ago

I think it was adapted from the Greg Abbott rebrand: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/greg-abbott-is-a-little-piss-baby

[–] TragicNotCute 28 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Well his own speech is absolutely free. I’m pretty sure that’s what he meant.

[–] Red_October 8 points 3 months ago

He'll also trample absolutely any rules necessary to support speech he happens to agree with.

[–] 200ok 5 points 3 months ago

His own speech cost 44 billion

[–] Chee_Koala 18 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yeah how is this feller making sense of this in his own head? I can hardly believe I once thought this guy had love in his heart.

[–] whostosay 8 points 3 months ago

It's obvious, he tried making sense for a long time and it just didn't work out. He then chose and tailored an audience for the cost of Twitter so he could have an audience that logic does not apply to.

[–] FlyingSquid 17 points 3 months ago (2 children)

(Note he said that after the "free speech absolutist" claim.)

[–] [email protected] 13 points 3 months ago

Well, then I’m going to start writing to my representatives to start passing laws to hold those who spout transphobia and speciesism accountable to the law.

Not to mention that one of the first things he did upon taking ownership of Twitter was to game the entire thing so his own tweets get the most attention on the site.

Honestly, I think that White Dudes for Harris should sue the platform for an illegal contribution to the Trump campaign. It is by definition a media platform and by denying the account they've clearly crossed a line.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 3 months ago

He's all about free speech he absolutely agrees with.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago

Of course not, he is after all a republikkklown

[–] [email protected] 21 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Just African-Canadian things

[–] [email protected] 127 points 3 months ago (3 children)

They should join Mastodon to get away from Elon’s narcissism.

[–] 9point6 87 points 3 months ago (1 children)

On the flip side, hopefully this news story pushes more people away from X

[–] [email protected] 65 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I can't imagine anyone being pushed by anything if they weren't pushed away until now

[–] Brewchin 17 points 3 months ago

I think it's the usual "it hasn't impacted me personally, so how bad can it be" maintaining the status quo at all costs.

Once something happens that they care about, they'll be on the Fediverse that day crowing loudly about how awful Xitter has suddenly become...

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Mastodon lacks full-text search, which kills the main reason that Twitter appealed to me, the real-time-updated full-text index.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 3 months ago

Mastodon added text search a while ago.

[–] nebulaone 32 points 3 months ago

Can we please keep calling it Twitter, just to piss off Elon?

[–] [email protected] 26 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

this would be awesome for c/enoughmuskspam

[–] Lemminary 26 points 3 months ago (3 children)

I will forever victim-blame these folks.

[–] [email protected] 88 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

They are an advocacy group, they go where their audience is. Of you are looking for white dudes what's the point of looking for them in the fediverse, where 98% of them already agree with you?

[–] TheGrandNagus 26 points 3 months ago

Eh, if they were doing it on Mastodon nobody would see their campaigning. And of that tiny amount that do see them, they'd mostly be preaching to the choir.

For an average user you have a point, though.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 months ago

As people have pointed out, they're an advocacy group, and trying to reach less aware people. The fact that Elon banned em shows it was most likely working.

[–] [email protected] -4 points 3 months ago (3 children)

The ban lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes. Id guess it was triggered by so many people suddenly joining the account. Musk ain't great but the hyper sensitivity around him is getting weird.

[–] firadin 16 points 3 months ago

What a coincidence, a strong liberal fundraising account getting banned just as Musk promises to donate $45mil/month to the Trump campaign and complains about the "woke mind virus." I'm sure you can point to similar conservative accounts getting banned and staying banned for several hours right?

[–] OlinOfTheHillPeople 13 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

The ban lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes.

You mean during the time that they were holding their fundraising event?

[–] buddascrayon 3 points 3 months ago

Except that no reason for the ban was given. If the ban was due to a sudden uptick in followers, why wasn't that reason sent along with the ban? And then there is the timing which coincided with the fundraiser. All of this on top of Musk publicly declaring his endorsement of Trump and the promise of finding his campaign. Too many "coincidences" are a clear indication of intent.
