Remember when he was 'America's mayor'? Yeah...he was always shit but for the most part people liked him. All he had to do was....nothing. Literally do nothing to go down in history as an ok guy.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudy_Giuliani

It sounds like the timeline was:

  • He was in a good position in about 2008.

  • He hoped to convert name recognition from 9/11 into success in his 2008 presidential run. He didn't make it and overspent his budget, ran up debt.

  • He chose not to run for New York state governor in 2010, when he apparently had a decent shot.

  • In the 2016 election, he was tied up with Trump and from then on kinda boned himself.

It sounds like a good alternate timeline for him would have been running for governor, maybe not running for president, and definitely staying away from Trump.

Probably didn't help that when he walked out of court he said:

“they were engaged in changing votes.”

When a reporter responded there was no proof of such an allegation, Giuliani said: “Oh you’re damn right there is. Stay tuned.”

[–] Wrench 22 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Stay tuned? The show already rolled credits. You can't just introduce new evidence after the trial is over and a verdict is reached. And he was a lawyer, what a joke.

[–] hoshikarakitaridia 13 points 2 months ago

Yes. We call that discovery issues and if judge has reasonable belief about malicious intent you get into sanctions which can contain contempt charges and referrals to the bar.

Or to put it simpler: if he doesn't, he lied, and that's a bad look. If he does, there's a chance he loses his law license, goes to jail, or jeopardizes his case even after the fact.

That's not evil, that's JUST dumb.

It's always a good day for America when the orange toddler naps in court (again) and geriatric Giuliani loses an appeal.

Imagine going from one of America's heros after 9/11 to absolutely tanking your reputation and financial well being for the Cheeto in Chief

[–] RubberElectrons 21 points 2 months ago

That dumbass was nobody's hero in NYC, especially after the towers fell. The part of the city I grew up in was too far to have lost any firefighters directly, but people in my neighborhood sure knew some of the guys at ground zero.

Imagine the schmuck mayor, with all the loud-mouth ballyhoo of his predecessor Ed Koch, but literally none of his wit or charm, clamoring up to the stage in front of the city that he's organizing everything.

The feds and the brass in the corners Giuliani wasn't even aware of built the city up against a repeat. 3.5 million passengers a month through NYC's airports, secure. 11.6 million rides a month on the subway system, also secured.

Nobody is under any illusion that the guy who lost every lawsuit he brought against people as the mayor, was the same guy who kept the city safe afterwards.

[–] FuglyDuck 19 points 2 months ago

he had a pretty shitty reputation before 9/11 too.

most americans didn't know who he was, or only vaguely knew that he was the mayor of NYC. so when 9/11 happened... he managed to seize on it as a publicity stunt. which... case in point, actually got more people killed because the pile wasn't exactly a safe place to be chilling.

Who is paying for his lawyers? He filed for bankruptcy so where is the money coming from?

And it isn't even 5:30 am.

Nothing quite like waking up to the dulcet tones of a sarcastic trombone, and you've been revving that thing like a Harley these past few mornings

[–] FlyingSquid 2 points 2 months ago

So much good news for Riker to bring attention to!

[–] FuglyDuck 11 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

somebody should give Ghouliani a pat on the back. a firm, hard, pat.

not in congratulations, mind you.

[–] formergijoe 4 points 2 months ago

Literal footage of the last time he had a pat on the back:

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

He likes them with a bat. A pat bat.

[–] FuglyDuck 2 points 2 months ago

Is it shaped like a cricket bat or a baseball bat? (Though a t-ball bat might be more convenient and wieldly)

Or perhaps the flying bat? (Not sure a vampire would consent to suck his blood. It’s probably toxic.)

[–] robocall 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Just pay the bill! No big deal.

[–] FuglyDuck 7 points 2 months ago

Turns out it's a great way to go broke, working for a scumbag that asks you to do illegal things and still doesn't pay his bills.

[–] nucleative 9 points 2 months ago

I think he's still in bankruptcy. From my understanding the bankruptcy trustee takes control over these kinds of things and it's probably stayed right now anyway. Ultimately it will go on the pile with all the other liabilities where most or all will probably be discharged.

Good or bad, bankruptcy law doesn't allow the trustee to touch income and expenses that are considered reasonable given your location. There is some standard calculator for all of that but I think the bankrupt can also lobby to keep control of various things, especially if it's directly related to their earning capabilities.

Bankruptcy is designed to get people who are otherwise fucked back to a workable position. Even scumbags find themselves fucked and need some help sometimes, lol.

Giuliani working on his Penguin sneer.
