  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Yeah, and Roe v Wade was settled case law... Don't believe a god damn word republicans say about abortion. They are dead-set on a federal ban.

I believe it when Trump says he’ll be a dictator on day 1. Sometimes they are brutally transparent.

[–] CharlesDarwin 13 points 8 months ago (1 children)

...but he's definitely lying when he implies that it would be ONLY on day 1. I don't believe that for one second.

[–] PRUSSIA_x86 5 points 8 months ago

Just the tip...

[–] CharlesDarwin 25 points 8 months ago (1 children)

...and so does almost everyone else.

Sadly, a lot of Enlightened Centrists (TM) and/or gaslighting "independents" and/or single issue so-called leftists (Gaza, anyone? Or some obscure academic intersectional hair-splitting over semantics about feminism/trans rights, etc.?) will be given cover that they "didn't know".

I'm sure they'll lay the blame for losing fundamental rights (or even worse - unleashing maga goon squads on normal Americans with actual fascists at the helm of the Executive Branch endorsing the pogroms) at the feet of the Democratic Party, if history is any indication...

[–] [email protected] 8 points 8 months ago (1 children)

The scariest thing to me about the fascist decent of America is all the people applying for jobs on the MAGA goon squad. They don't disappear if Trump does.

[–] CharlesDarwin 4 points 8 months ago

Amen to that.

Two other very disheartening aspects:

  1. The affirmation of just how corporate the "liberal media" truly is in the face of the obvious fascist threat - just as the left has been saying for maybe six or seven decades now? And yet, the prevailing notion of a "liberal media" continues. The corporate media would much rather have eyeballs and play the both sides game rather than call the repug party what they truly are.

  2. The deep cynicism of some very vocal parts of the left (that I hope are just a very performative minority, possibly even a foreign-led operation). Many over there keep insisting on the most cartoonish aspects of identity politics and the oppression olympics, even attacking allies that they deem are not sufficiently using their very particular framing and terms, etc. This is helping no one; it is just creating division on the left/liberal side, and in fact, it is most likely just creating more right wingers, really. This kind of view will often manifest itself as claiming that Bernie Sanders supporters are racists/misogynists or the like, or that wanting to focus on things like class consciousness and building alliances based on that is somehow racist/transphobic/sexist, etc...I mean, gawd forbid that the left tries to forge common ground with the male white working class instead of only constantly generating resentment and hostility over the differences between groups of people.

I'm not that interested in this story, but I just want you to know Jeff W you're pretty cool... I've seen you since my first day on lemmy and I just think you're pretty darn cool for posting daily Mr Jeff w... you also replied to one of my comments or something one time so you're my first celebrity on Lemmy and it's really cool to see you everyday so that's what I got to say, the end!

[–] TurboDiesel 10 points 8 months ago (2 children)

It's really funny when you start to recognize people, isn't it?

[–] gimpchrist 4 points 8 months ago

Lol it's pretty cool yuh

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I've reported you to the US Marshals for violating the commenter security program.

[–] Viking_Hippie 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I've reported you to Marshal from How I Met Your Mother for being way uncool.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Can I at least pick up an outfit from Marshall's before the arrest?

[–] Viking_Hippie 2 points 8 months ago

OK, as long as you check with the fire Marshal to make sure the store isn't over capacity!

[–] someguy3 20 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

This seems like such an obvious play to not lose too many woman voters. And then do whatever he/gop wants.

[–] NegativeInf 4 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Voters don't like it when you hedge your bets.

[–] CharlesDarwin 13 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Honestly, I think a lot of people just want a permission structure to (still) vote for him. Even the most flimsiest of veneers can be given to them so they can pretend they were innocent of any wrongdoing by voting for any of these monsters.

[–] NegativeInf 6 points 8 months ago

Right. That also tracks. Only Democrats get consequences.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago

Nah, it's fine if you're a conservative since you won't be held to any sort of standard.

[–] eran_morad 14 points 8 months ago

They’d be honored to have trump rape their own children. It’s a fucking cult.

[–] laughterlaughter 12 points 8 months ago (1 children)

How large is the evangelical population in the U.S., and why should we care for what these nutjobs think?

[–] macarthur_park 12 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

About 1 in 4 adults in the US identify as evangelical. They also have a higher voting rate than other groups, so unfortunately their opinions have an effect.

The fact that 80% of the evangelical vote went to trump in both 2016 and 2020, and that their support appears to still be about the same is one of the key reasons Trump is still a viable candidate.

[–] laughterlaughter 4 points 8 months ago

Disgusting. Evangelicals are looked down south of the border.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 8 months ago

they know he's lying.

Much following

Such Christ.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago

They control the state legislature and local courts, so they are not worried.

[–] FuglyDuck 5 points 8 months ago

Republicans want it to go to the states because they control slightly less than half of them outright; where they know their draconian per-historic religion can't pass federal muster.

[–] Hobbes_Dent 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Seems appropriate to post this. As usual.

Violent Femmes - Lies

[–] CharlesDarwin 4 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

Love that album, but I always wondered about the weird way they spliced that song together.

ETA: A long time ago, I used pop this on when I knew my roomie was very, very baked and least suspecting it as a way to Rickroll him (pre Rickrolling) because I just knew the splice job simultaneously set his teeth on edge and make him laugh until his sides hurt.

[–] Viking_Hippie 2 points 8 months ago

always wondered about the weird way they spliced that song together

Yeah, that's downright bizarre lol

[–] rayyy 3 points 8 months ago

Anyone find the real Evangelical Bible because they sure don't follow this one?

[–] Sanctus 2 points 8 months ago

I had a rant earlier about these people being and serving pharisees. They do not follow Christ. No one with wealth does. They killed him for saying you can't be rich and get into heaven. The rest of the shit was added by future pharisees to make being rich "okay" again.

It is an endless cycle of the masses rising against the wealthy. Hold fast, lads. There is no eye or end to thus storm.
