Just as the lord our dog wills it, amen.

I do find it a bit funny that all of a sudden people in Florida have a problem with spring break partyers after decades of courting them and even allowing abusive assholes like "Girls Gone Wild" to film and exploit there.

It's not all of a sudden. The Spring Break crowd has been controversial for decades. Bar and hotel owners of course love them. Locals unaffiliated with the tourism industry are more ambivalent and always have been.

The only way Florida survives is its tourism industry. It replaces income the state would normally get from income taxes, along with the many other very high taxes Florida has. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Though it does appear to be the first time that a concerted effort has been undertaken to resolve this as a problem.

Some communities have always made it hard for Spring Breakers but I agree, momentum is building.

For me, what told me the sort of person who goes down there came during some interview during the first Covid spring break where some douchebag is on camera talking about how he wasn't going to let the "Rona" ruin his good time. I am certain that it's horrible to live near the places that people frequent.

What's happening here is that they want it to keep happening until it's "not news". They've just about managed it to be honest. Fuck.

No it's just Florida, idiots abound.

As the weather gets warmer, people literally get angrier quicker. This will get worse.

Considering it's a major city, it's probably just gang violence.

Oh Jason. I feel like you always understand about 20% of what's happening.

I'm telling you, Molotov cocktails work. Any time I had a problem, and I threw a Molotov cocktail, boom! Right away, I had a different problem.

[–] kerrigan778 -4 points 11 months ago (2 children)

It's a city, could easily just be gang bullshit.

[–] Dasus 6 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

Probably is.

But how does that make it any better?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago

Get out of here with your racist dog whistle bullshit.
