TIL I'm a fingertip gripper

[–] [email protected] 42 points 1 year ago (11 children)

It comes from having hands bigger than the mouse. I don't get how taller people can even do palm grip. You would have to click with your finger knuckles.

[–] TeaHands 8 points 1 year ago

I don't even have big hands, just regular lady-hand sized. I still don't really get the palm thing, just tried it and it feels so weird! Maybe depends on the shape of the mouse too, since some can be quite a lot taller than others.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I have small hands and still fingertip basically all the time, and I have all my life. I don't use a small mouse either (G502)

I hate how smudgy and uncomfortable it feels to have reduced fine control when my palm comes into contact with the mouse. It feels icky and frustrating. I know plenty of people palm grip with low DPI and big mousepads to achieve fine control, but that seems far more exhausting than just developing stamina in the forearm.

I am not tall but I would say my hand is a bit more than average, about 18 ish cm I would say. I always find palm grip as shown in the picture to be comfortable but the base of my palm firmly rests on the mousepad and the fingers and top part of palm will be on the mouse. Also a reason I can't use a small mouse as the top side of my palm can never rest on the mouse without my fingers going past the keys.

Yeah Im fingertips because of this exact reason. Best mouse I've found so far to counter it is a Razor DeathAdder. I've had a few over the years and even with the model changes the overall size and shape is very constant.

depends, i dob't have bigger hands, but it give more accuracy in osu!

Same here. I have a long hand, resting my palm on the back of the mouse makes my fingers peek out the front :/

The fabled hockey puck grip!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

God, I hated those mice back then. The least comfortable mouse ever. And that was back when I had small hands, lol.

Yep, watch some esports, you'll see plenty of different postures, mouse grips, keyboard placements, etc

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

This is a professional Counter Strike player called Device.

These guys started out at small lans with CRT monitors where table space was an issue, so the players started doing stuff like this:

I always used fingertip with small hands and never thought it was weird. I just figured out maybe it's because I played piano growing up? It feels more natural to have a C shape with my hand and space between the mouse and my palm.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I never played the piano but I use fingertip too. (I also have small hands btw)

How do palm gripper move the mouse down? They use their whole arm? I’ve been told I keep my sensitivity high, as I can cross my entire screen top to bottom and left to right without lifting my hand off the desk. Anything else seems much more tiring.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Pretty much yes but moving your arm by a little isn't really that hard and can be done without lifting your elbow. I don't find it tiring even after a full day of usage but maybe I am just used to it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I’ve never had a setup where my elbow was on the desk. Maybe that’s part of the difference? All very interesting

TIL that I have no idea how I hold my mouse, it's just happens. I suspect I switch style based on what I do.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Claw... My hands are too goddamn big...

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I guess by that I use fingertip, but I think it'd be more accurate to say that I use palm adapted for big hands.

The few times that I've had a mouse big enough to palm it without my fingers sticking out too far, that's what I've done, and that's definitely my preference. It's just that the vast majority of mouses are too small for that.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I have xxxl hands and still use fingertip. Never get tired. I search for small mice. Why would you want to move your whole arm to come towards you/ down on the screens?

[–] Yttra 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I just end up using fingertip because all the good mice are too god damned small, but I'd much rather use palm grip

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I did this for ages fighting with various logitech and microsoft mice, always ended up getting cramps in my mouse hand. Eventually landed on the corsair nightsword a few years ago, very comfortable for a full palm grip, highly recommend. Maybe have a look there.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Palm grip is modeled after charlie kirk hands. My fingers are literally dragging on the table when I grip mine like that.

[–] Raab 4 points 1 year ago

I use claw and fingertip depending on what I'm doing.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

My ex was a claw gripper when we met, but thankfully she learned the palm method, which really was most-comfortable for long sessions.

I use claw because nothing since the G9x has been big enough to do otherwise

[–] wccrawford 3 points 1 year ago

I use Palm until my fingers ache and I remember that I need to not grip it like that any more (some of my fingers ache from it), and then I move to fingertip for a while.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I've always used claw grip. Just feels the best for FPS.

[–] RQG 2 points 1 year ago

I just realized I don't know how I hold y mouse.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I've never thought about this before, I guess I use fingertip though. I just kinda move the mouse around using mostly my thumb and pinky finger.
