Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Summary

Elon Musk demanded that all federal employees receive an email from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) requiring them to list their work activities, with non-responses implying resignation.

However, the actual email omitted the resignation clause, and OPM clarified that responses were not mandatory.

When asked about this, Trump appeared uncertain, stating, “It’s somewhat voluntary, but… I guess you get fired.”

He framed the initiative as a way to verify government employees’ activities but gave conflicting remarks on the consequences of non-response.

He doesn't care. He's a sociopath, who knew?

[–] FuglyDuck 38 points 5 days ago (1 children)

he probably doesn't even realize he's the president of the US.

he probably thinks this is all just some sort of cosplay thing

[–] [email protected] 13 points 5 days ago (1 children)

[–] FuglyDuck 3 points 5 days ago (2 children)

probably playing as Imperium in WH40k.

[–] PattyMcB 5 points 5 days ago

They have a code of honor. He doesn't

[–] kittyjynx 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Honestly, I'd take Guilliman over Musk any day.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago

At least Robot Gorillastan cares about the Imperium.

[–] PattyMcB 4 points 5 days ago

Oh... I knew. It was obvious.

Fucking wild. "I guess you're fired." Thank God the American voter chose the geriatric over the black lady with all her faculties.

'merica doesn't support DEI - this would TOTALLY have been a DEI hire if she did get in (to them)

[–] [email protected] 31 points 5 days ago

How can Musk, a mere consultant to the government, fire anyone?

[–] [email protected] 21 points 5 days ago (1 children)

a) Did Trump get the email b) When's he leaving?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

My conspiracy theory is that Trump has to get Putin all set and Project 2025 off and running as quick as he can, so Theil and JD Vance can 25th A him, while also pardoning him also. This whole Musk thing might be totally separate and gumming up the works, forcing Trump to deviate from the original plan. Nobody freestyles and fucks shit up like Trump.

Remember how loud they screamed about Biden being too old? Every time he acts like this, we need to point out how infirm grandpa is becoming.

[–] givesomefucks 19 points 5 days ago (2 children)

It doesn't matter because trump, Musk, OPM, doge, or all of them combined can't fire federal employees like this.

[–] WhatsHerBucket 54 points 5 days ago (1 children)

There’s a lot they “can’t“ do. But I don’t see anyone standing in their way.

Laws don't matter if you don't enforce them...

[–] dragontamer -1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

President enforces the laws. Apparently Americans have forgotten this.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Guess I'll hit a spliffy near a school and meet the man personally then

[–] dragontamer 0 points 4 days ago

The laws people care about in this topic, white collar corruption in government officials, is handled by FBI. Who is controlled by the President

[–] [email protected] 28 points 5 days ago

"You can't do this! It's illegal!" He gasped, as the knife was plunged into his chest over and over...

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Yeah usually when a boss sends me a really dumb email I just ignore them.

Im surprised anyone bothered to reply to these at all.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

i am the type to completely ignore spam like this going to the whole company from up top. its almost always a waste of my time

[–] WhatsHerBucket 7 points 5 days ago

Nobody has handed him a clue

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

didn't they just say he was not in charge. if hes not the head is he even a part of it. does he have any actual authority? isn't it just a spam message.

[–] Placebonickname 6 points 5 days ago

“You’re fired”, i feel like I’ve heard trump say that before….? No?
