  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Summary

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez criticized Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, after he suggested her "Know Your Rights with ICE" webinar could be illegal.

The event informed immigrants about their rights during ICE raids. Homan claimed the webinar might impede immigration enforcement and said he was working with the DOJ to determine legal action.

AOC dismissed his remarks, stating, "Maybe he can learn to read. The Constitution would be a good place to start."

She continues to oppose Trump’s immigration policies, including efforts to revoke birthright citizenship.

Are they seriously using Czar as an official title?

conservatism is a disease that untreated will often develop into fascism

[–] Jumpingspiderman 4 points 2 days ago

I would say conservatism unchallenged vigorously transforms into fascism.

AOC for Speaker! Congress needs fixing too.

[–] Treczoks 15 points 3 days ago

The Dems definitely need someone with a bite in that position. AOC would be a good choice, indeed.

Today, yeah, I'll push my rep to vote for her in 2026. Goodness knows he won't be...

What happened to the immigrants they were hauling off to Guantánamo Bay? Has there been an update on that?

How can the "free speech" party so consistently get it wrong when it comes to the First Amendment?

[–] [email protected] 68 points 4 days ago

"the law only applies when and where and how we say it does"

[–] [email protected] 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

"Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect."

Free speech is a code for hate speech. It really is that simple.

She needs to keep going. She needs to speak to them the same way they speak to everyone else. She needs to use every bit of her position to mother fuck these cowards at every turn. Call them out, and show their ignorance every single fucking time and in every single fucking forum.

She needs to demand her coworkers do the same. She needs to shame them when they don't or when they compromise. The time for pleasantries is long past.

If she does, others will follow, but it will be dangerous, so I understand if she just keeps doing what she is doing. It is at least miles more than most of them.

Bla bla bla, man shouts at clouds, but no one listens.

It’s AOC with the steel chair!

My god, the pressure she is experiencing right now…

[–] gdog05 51 points 4 days ago (1 children)

She and Bernie are carrying the entire weight of the opposition party and therefore the future of the country. I don't envy them.

[–] _wizard 24 points 4 days ago

I stand with them

I've always wonder why the US uses a title from Imperial Russia to refer to the heads of special activity like drug czar and border czar. No seriously, any ideas why?

[–] [email protected] 25 points 4 days ago (3 children)

It’s a term that indicates a leader, and its origins are thousands of years before imperial Russia.

It’s a derivative of the Latin “Caesar”, and many cultures have used the term (or its derivatives) to indicate a leader. Pre-Weimar Germany was led by the Kaiser, a German adaptation of the title.
