Summary

The FCC has demanded CBS provide the full, unedited transcript of a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris, following a complaint and a lawsuit by Donald Trump.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, appointed by Trump, has reversed past media-related dismissals and launched new investigations into broadcasters.

CBS is also in settlement talks with Trump amid concerns over a pending Paramount-Skydance merger.

Critics argue the FCC’s actions constitute government retaliation against the press, raising concerns over First Amendment protections and media independence.

Nothing will meaningfully improve until the rich fear for their lives

Kinda makes me want to leave my career and get into private security.

[–] [email protected] 87 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

This is not normal. This is illegal. This is facism.

[–] homesweethomeMrL 18 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Well . . . yeah.

Just like we said for the last year.

See, though, the Democrats ran an unlikable candidate. So. You can understand why this lurching hellscape was so necessary.

And black people's mail in ballots were rejected at a rate NINE TIMES higher than white people's. There are other little things like this.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Voter suppression gave the Midwest states to Trump. We need to make sure everyone knows it.

[–] homesweethomeMrL 3 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Agreed. Let's see those links, or citations, or whatever you got. Hopefully all in one place, like a Wikipedia article or something.

The Democrats needed to learn a lesson!

And if we're lucky, we'll still get to have elections in a couple years.

The government can demand unpublished journalism materials, and CBS has the right to tell them to fuck off, which they would if they have any integrity left.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 17 hours ago

The cost for integrity in an authoritarian system is very very high.

We can't expect them to have integrity until we are willing to be in the streets.

Narrator: "They don't"

[–] Zexks 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

This should really be the story. “CBS capitulated to a dictator wanna be.”

[–] [email protected] 4 points 13 hours ago

Getting less "wannabe" and more "actual" every day

[–] [email protected] 43 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

I would love to live in a world where CBS tells them to go fuck themselves, and airs an hourlong special on the history of free speech protections in the United States and the meaning of the term “chilling effect.”

It seems like kind of the bare minimum. If they as an American news organization are not at least willing to do that, they should replace that proud-of-itself ticking clock intro with a little clip of some of the news reports from Starship Troopers.

CBS is also in settlement talks with Trump amid concerns over a pending Paramount-Skydance merger.

that is all you need to know about this situation to conclude what will happen.

Network States will emerge within 3 years. Make sure you get in to Disney State or Microsoft. Dont want to get stuck in a shit ass place like O'Reiley's State.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

They're a corporation. You are on the news source now.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 19 hours ago

Pretty much, yes. Why do you think I keep setting up these RSS feed communities to still-high-quality journalism?

[–] solrize 25 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

If the interview was broadcast, there must be video recordings, so what is the big deal about unedited transcripts? They can watch the video and see what she said.

Do they mean they want stuff she said that didn't go on the air? That would be invasive.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 22 hours ago

Yes - they want the unaired footage and transcript.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I really hope that orange turds lifestyle soon catches up to him

[–] [email protected] 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Please don’t. Trump’s absolutely unique blend of incompetence, self-assurance, and vigor is one of the few bright spots in this whole thing. If someone who is capable gets to sit at the controls of the machine that’s been created, you can fucking say good night.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 17 hours ago

Vance is Trump's insurance policy

[–] [email protected] 17 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (1 children)

Hmm. Does the FCC actually have the authority to do that?

I mean, I don't know the details of the thing here, but their authority really extends just over what goes out over the air. I don't think that they have any special authority over the inner workings of companies, just because they happen to be in the news business.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

the president doesn't give a fuck. the fcc is just going to be the minitru going forward

[–] [email protected] 10 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

They can ask for it, but that doesn't mean that CBS has to do it, and if they want to take it to the courts, then they're going to need to have a legal argument.

[–] dohpaz42 16 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (1 children)

It doesn’t matter if they have a legal argument. They want to scare the execs at ~~CBS~~ Paramount so that ~~CBS~~ Paramount capitulates and gives in, just like ABC did.

And guess what?

It’s working.

[–] Sanctus 6 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Some people really need to go study the rise of the Third Reich. They will be feeling like they have deja vu.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 17 hours ago

You best start believing in thick chapters in the history book. You’re in one.

Good reading: “Maus” by Art Spiegelman, “Night” by Elie Wiesel.

CBS should tell Brendan Carr to go fuck himself

Lyrics, to avoid an app:

[Verse 1] Gonna put you on a forgotten street Give you a lecture about something obsolete Gonna teach you about the freedom of speech Then they're gonna come and take away the freedom of speech

Gonna write a song with your point of view Manufacture feelings that feel for you Sung by men who would flog playground juuls, preachy Preeten peacock pecking order they didn't choose [Refrain] Such is life (x4)

[Verse 2] Gonna lobby to bloat up a cash cow Feed you poison that they want to allow Then they wrap it up with a pretty bow And then hook you when you're a baby and you don't even know

Gonna give you another group to hate Build a scapegoat thеn they give it a face Nothin' to do with rеligion or race But it's corporate politics that got us into this place

[Outro] Such is life, Such is life! Such is life, So choose life So choose liiiife, choose liiiife! So choose liiiife, choose liiiife Such is life (x4)
