USians are going to learn what UKians learnt with the Brexit soon. Good luck guys!.

[–] Itdidnttrickledown 16 points 21 hours ago

The hardest part of watching brexit was knowing how many people there knew it was a terrible idea. The knowing that you could see how stupid it was and could do nothing to convince the stupids in there to realize they are too stupid to make up their own minds. With this trash internet that has infected our society we are at the mercy of the stupids. The stupids let themselves be lead around like sheep while calling everyone else sheep.

The FO part is about to happen for Trump supporters. Once they realize the impact this will have on them.

[–] Bdtrngl 21 points 1 day ago

Too bad the rest of us get screwed along with them.

[–] Itdidnttrickledown 4 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Today about thirty percent of them are are too stupid to admit its their fault.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 20 hours ago

FAFO is still better that CIWWTFA (crying impotently while watching them fuck around).

well not better, but it’s probably more fun.

This wouldn't be possible without a bunch of people already working for the new administration over the current one. I'm deeply concerned about how quickly and efficiently they are doing things—the opposite of the incompetence that was the hallmark of his first administration.

[–] [email protected] 34 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Those people are the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

They also happily did the dirty work last time when they put children in cages very efficiently. There's a documentary showing how excited they were to finally be allowed to beat up brown people without consequences.

Meanwhile we were all entertained by the media showing Trump walking weirdly down a slope and drinking from a bottle using both hands.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Could you share the name of the documentary?

Thanks, I'll give it a watch!

I wonder if Biden still thinks fighting for those increases to ICE's budget was such a good idea

[–] [email protected] 2 points 20 hours ago

It's not like ICE is made up of a random assortment of Americans. It's not much of a surprise that they would be talking to republicans basically all the time.

[–] [email protected] 121 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This is fucking terrifying.

I honestly don't really know what to do. Operations and infrastructure and precedent like this will not be limited in scope to immigrants, if it's allowed to get rolling.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

And where do you "deport" people who were born in America (once they end birthright citizenship and/or just don't care)?

They've already purchased land in TX and NJ (disappointing af, c'mon Murphy) for "detention facilities." If needed, they could use the same law that was used to intern US citizens of Japanese descent during WW2. There is also recent precedent for separating families and putting kids in cages.

By the way, they told us this was going to happen like at least a year ago. Explicitly. I'm not talking vague insinuations, they spelled it out in Project 2025. This should be a surprise to no one.

This is going to get very bad.

[–] HeyJoe 1 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

From my understanding, if the original country they originate from does not take them, they can end up in another country that the US has made deals with. That will take time to negotiate, and during this time, they will sit in camps...

[–] Sarie 2 points 19 hours ago

I wouldn't be surprised if they end up fighting Ukraine

[–] capital_sniff 45 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Allowed to get rolling... who is going to stop it? The republicans control the entire federal government.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

Probably no one can stop it immediately but it’s up to citizens to run interference as much as we can safely.

If you are in Chicagoland connect with your local orgs, I guarantee you there are some people strategizing against this.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 day ago

Yeah. I think it's going to be allowed to get rolling.

Terrifying

You're a hero.

[–] [email protected] 86 points 1 day ago (6 children)

Paywall. A fucking paywall. Are you FUCKING KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW???

[–] [email protected] 87 points 1 day ago

Wall Street Journal is owned by the same people as Fox News. It's another arm of the propaganda, just aimed at smarter victims. There's plenty of true stuff in there, but they're definitely not the good guys.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

It does!! Thank you 🩶

[–] [email protected] 37 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Reader bypasses it.

The incoming Trump administration is planning a large-scale immigration raid in Chicago next week, according to four people familiar with the planning, the first move in President-Elect Donald Trump’s promised mass deportation campaign.

The raid is expected to begin on Tuesday morning, a day after Trump is inaugurated, and will last all week, the people said. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will send between 100 and 200 officers to carry out the operation.

Bit odd to announce where it is. Don’t go to work next week if you’re in Chicago I guess.

[–] [email protected] 44 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I actually think this makes sense - it's a way to normalize it.

Like his awful cabinet picks, Trump's team leaks this information, everyone is immediately upset, but by Tuesday it'll be, "as expected, Trump carried out raids in Chicago." Additionally, those he is targeting have a chance to hide, thereby avoiding combining the news of the raids with visceral shocking imagery in reporting. This raid will be more for show, but things will get worse in steps, as we get used it each level of barbarity.

If I'm right, that's why they released it on a Friday night.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 23 hours ago

Sounds more like a leak than an announcement.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Thank you. I tried using archive extensions with no luck, just got blocked repeatedly. Maybe I'm using it wrong.

Is that the entire article though or is there more?

[–] Fisherman75 3 points 1 day ago

They're doing some weird things right now I think. I was posting a big paragraph about peak oil on slrpnk.net a couple hours ago and that's when slrpnk went down. Maybe I'm just paranoid.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Tried to grab a copy from archive.is and it just says in bold: You have been blocked.

[–] gAlienLifeform 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I tried deleting the stuff after the question mark on the OP URL and had a bit more luck - https://archive.is/VfA92

[–] [email protected] 3 points 21 hours ago

Well hot damn you've gone and cracked the code!

[–] eran_morad 2 points 1 day ago
[–] squirrelwithnut -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You should be this upset about the content of the article, not about the fact it has a paywall.

[–] Abdoanmes 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's why they are upset. It's so important they can't read it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

Very much this, thank you. Felt like that should be obvious lol 🤦‍♀️

[–] gift_of_gab 27 points 1 day ago

Good luck, my American siblings. I'm very afraid of what is going to happen.

[–] Veedem 44 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This guy is going to intentionally tank the economy at the behest of Papa Putin.

[–] Weslee 21 points 1 day ago (2 children)

All according to plan, and 50% of the population think they want it 🤣

Have fun Americans, show the rest of the world why being red is a bad idea so we can stop slipping that way for another couple of years. Tbh I would have thought Brexit would have shown that but I guess Americans didn't want to be outdone on stupid self destructive acts.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 22 hours ago

shown that but I guess Americans didn't want to be outdone on stupid self destructive acts.

The percentage of Americans that are aware of Brexit, let alone the problems with it, is vanishing small.

[–] BigBenis 3 points 22 hours ago

As an American, I doubt most Americans could even describe what Brexit was let alone the after-effects of it.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

200 officers to Chicago aren't going to last long. 20,000 wouldn't even do it.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Now there ain’t but 20,000 police in the whole town!
