Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

Star Trek is actual science fiction, so it’s better at that.

Better characterization.

Better thematically.

Hmm…

Star Wars is better at eleven year olds… so… it’s better at that.

came to say just this - kudos

As my username may suggest, I am conflicted.

Star Trek is better than Star Wars Choke me daddy.

I bet mirror Kirk would enjoy the choking.

[–] marcos 1 points 16 minutes ago

And normal Kirk would defy it.

He's going to activate that thing into his forehead

[–] FuglyDuck 8 points 16 hours ago

He’s still assembling it!

Kirk would karate-chop Vader, double-first slam the Storm Trooper, grab a blaster, and not miss.

Vader's only advantage here is James Earl Jones's voice.

My favorite Kirk fighting maneuver (sorry, I tried to screenshot a YouTube video. It's the human projectile, where he throws himself sideways at the enemy.

Indefensible)

not to get too fan-wanky on you.... but, eh, Vader is basically permanently bolted into combat armor? a judo chop wouldn't be enough.

Also, didn't trek phasers have, like, autotargeting?

Also, Vader has way more stormtroopers than kirk has redshirts. just saying.

Only reason Kirk ain't to be counted out is... he has Scottie.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 hour ago

Kirk beat up a Gorn. (Sort of). Vader's combat armor is nothing.

But, seriously, I doubt there's much armor there beyond his helmet; it looks mostly like padding. And what does he need armor for? He has the force, and it's cannon that he can deflect blaster beams. Don't know how well that'd work for phasers; it obviously has limits, or light sabers wouldn't be of any use. And armor wouldn't help against light sabers. So, I'm just not sure there's much actual armor in his outfit.

Whereas Miles O'Brien's infinite transporter clone army had yet to be invented at the time...

I rather watch the equivalent of a preindustrial itinerant diplomacy mission than the equivalent of a medieval schismatic war.

Yeah, Star Wars is so much more likely what would happen - i.e. slavery to a capitalisic totalitarian regime in space, ruled over by a vaguely religious overlord.

Whereas Star Trek is what we wish for - I guess fistfights and cute Tribbles? It's still slavery where only the redshirts die, but it's easier to pretend that's not the case, and by TNG it's arguably already not anymore? Although we didn't realize that it was on the backs of the forerunner to the EMH doing all the dirty work:-P.

Star Trek used to be better than Star Wars.

Main reason: weekly episodes. You had to wait years to decades for the next Star Wars. But the next Voyager was just next Wednesday, and DS9 was next Thursday. At worst, they were in reruns for the next few months at most.

Hell. Star Trek had Star Wars beat on quantity of movies too.

Now, it's balanced out quite a bit and Star Wars probably has the edge right now on quantity and quality, but not by much, the gap is shrinking, and the situation could reverse pretty quickly.

Oh, also, Roddenberry didn't have the George Lucas syndrome making him want to retroactively ruin the whole franchise he birthed.

[–] FuglyDuck 5 points 6 hours ago

honestly, it's apples to oranges. Different shows. different vibes. Different stories.

I like them both, and, jokes about Spock wanting a lightsaber aside... arguing which one is better is... a matter of personal preference, I guess.

now. Arguing about whether the millenium falcon could take, I dunno, the defiant, or if the enterprise could take an ISD?

Those are arguments we really should be having.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 hours ago

Although Roddenberry was a visionary, whereas George Lucas was better at having created the universe than the actual films. Still, it connected with people more - seeing "space wizards" was somehow still far more believable than space communism I guess? :-P

Did you hear they just released a new special edition where they replace all the lightsabers with walkie talkies

[–] cmbabul 5 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 hours ago

I would not dare. I am too afraid of Mace Windu back when he had hair!:-P
