Oh dear, the Czech is in the mail.
World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

What an incredibly stupid decision.
And the orange shit gibbon is going to try to do the same thing for no reason.
Yeah shit is gonna get sold and everything will go to shit over here. This is Labour though, the liberal party, doing this over in England. Just goes to show you what neoliberalism, regardless of particular party, will eventually do. Privatize privatize privatize.
The Royal Mail was privatized already in 2013 by a Tory government, this is just a sale between two private entities.
Unfortunately, modern Labour are centrist, much like the US Democrats, so we see rather a lot of surprisingly right-leaning decisions from what ought to be a left-leaning party. "Liberal" isn't a completely accurate term for them these days.
We also have a third party called "Liberal Democrats" who were positioned in that centrist position until Labour moved right and stole it from them. Now they still try to sit between, pleasing hardly anyone.
When there was a left-leaning leader running the Labour party a few years ago, much panic ensued among the rich and powerful, and dirty tricks and smear campaigns were undertaken to get him as far out of the way as possible.
It probably didn't help that he didn't particularly want to be PM, but he was the only man who would do it.
Edit: Reworded for accuracy.
centrist,
Not centrist: conservative. Liberals only invented that label so they could call themselves something other than conservative.
Thanks for the extra information for those less informed about polítics there. It really is eye opening how few people understand the positions of Labour and US Democrats on the political spectrum. Right of center and moving further right is spot on.
Ah, I was wondering how will lemmy make sure to talk about trump after the elections are over?
Yeah, right, by mentioning him and upvoting any mentioning of him in any sub on any topic.
This is a thread about UK and Czechia. Get the hell out with your American politics. Shove it faaaar up your ass and then walk like that till you reach reddit.
Oh yeah. Privatisation is always better for the taxpayer. I mean, all those toll roads, managed by corporations. The value taxpayers get, paying for roads, that have been paid off a hundred times over, as they keep paying that private corporate tax. Every day. Hell yeah!
Dude, it’s a great idea!! Just look at Thames Water and the privatization of water utilities. It’s fantastic!!
I don't disagree with what you're saying, but Royal Mail was privatised a decade ago. It was floated on the stock market back in late 2013 (for around £2b, and despite objections from 96% of staff), and the government let go of their 30% stake in 2015. Křetínský was a big shareholder even then.
this is a labour government?!
It's a "Labour" government, featuring the corpse of the Labour Party haunted by the ghost of Margaret Thatcher.
Nice of them to let Putin have access to everything going through the UK post.

Is the free plan once a fortnight with even more marketing pamphlets thrown through the door?
You gotta prove you red the publicities though.
I think I severely underestimated Brits' self-loathing.🤔
How on earth did this get approved by labour? This is crazy! They were pushing for publicly owned energy company as part of their manifesto and now this? Well this is going to go down even steeper hill
This will no doubt go poorly but hey, when a government experiment goes poorly, what choice do you have.
