To be fair, other countries want US citizens even less than the US wants* immigrants.
Do people actually think that the US is alone in anti-immigration sentiment? Do they think it’s different because they’re American?
The US is the one with a giant monument to immigration, at whose feet is a plaque that reads:
Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!
And if they, of all people, are now against that, what makes Americans think anyone else will want them? It’s delusional.
Many countries shut down immigration to Americans in 2016, after the first round of trump’s policies, and they haven’t opened back up yet, partly because there was a solid chance of this happening again.

It's easy as piss to emigrate from America as long as you:
Are white, middle class, not provably disabled, not gay, with no criminal history, with at least one million in assets, as long as you don't have a history of activism, already are hired by a local company, and have a STEM degree.

I checked out Canadian requirements. The first stage of screening asks your name, email and year of birth - which only goes back to 1970. So apparently I'm too old.
That number specifically indicates that they're probably using a positive integer amount of seconds since the epoch (jan 1st, 1970). Rookie mistake.
Hey, that’s not entirely fair. Russia is more than happy to accept Americans, so long as they’re willing to be cannon fodder for a while. I’m pretty sure they’re not even putting an age limit on it. If you survive, you may even get a small flat afterwards. And if you don’t, they may give your parents money for a Lada (providing they were Russian citizens already).

It already well on it's way depending on your province. People have moved out of Quebec because of the intolerance going on there. Hell, I know a streamer who moved because someone threw a fucking brick through their window at his wife who moved there from the USA. Not because she's black or colored either, because she's white as a piece of paper.

It's not just that, people are acting like things are better in other countries. Like, name ONE country that has not gone off the deep end and ended up on the right recently. One major player. I'll wait. There is no utopia waiting for you in those other countries because they don't want you there and acting like you will be accepted as a refugee is foolhardy. The USA is a shit show right now, but we also don't know the future. It looks bleak right now because of the information we have RIGHT NOW. If you want to move out of the country, be my guest, but don't act like it's going to automatically be better, it's just going to be a different kind of shit show.

Definitely seems like a global trend.
Already swung super anti-immigration as of earlier this year, so the move to Canada plan isn't going to be as easy either

I've looked into it, believe me. New Zealand too. My wife is too rooted to our house, and we have an adult daughter still living at home with medical problems that would probably disqualify her.
You can outlive this. There's a good chance he can't. Be strong, and look out for those more vulnerable than yourself.
My concern is that the train is still running at full speed even if the driver has died of a heart attack.
That's just it, I'm a white male, I know I'll be comparatively fine. It's not really me I'm worried about.

I've been looking for silver linings. The two I've found are:

Trump probably won't live to see the end of his term. Dude is old and not exactly healthy. One could argue Vance taking his place would be worse, but I'm choosing to focus on the positives here.

Trump winning very likely prevented a civil war. I know a ton of people who had been stocking up on supplies and weapons. Again, one could argue giving these people the keys to the kingdom probably wasn't the smartest move, but again I'm trying to focus on the positives.
I think he's the devil and he'll never die. I wouldn't count on him dying. In my experience really poisonous people live a long time.
He is basically line for line the biblical antichrist. That's infinitely funny to me.

Trump didn't prevent civil war. Think back to what happened after the Jan 6 insurrection. When they failed to stop Biden's certification by valiantly committing minor vandalism and taking selfies, MAGA ominously promised that vague "actions" would occur in state capitals on his inauguration day. That day came and went, and the few "actions" that even happened had attendance in the dozens - mostly pathetic loners holding cardboard signs in the rain. The fired-up revolutionaries saw their freedom-fighting heroes methodically tracked down by the FBI and arrested, so instead of a civil war uprising they stayed home and posted angy tirades on Parler.
Contrast this with any real cause, like the BLM marches, which saw thousands of people show up week after week, in city after city, in spite of police beatdowns, arrests, and even some deaths. The difference is personal commitment. MAGAs are great at making loud noises, but when they're faced with the prospect of individual risk, most of them just hide in their freedom bunkers and shake their tiny fists at the TV. That bunch of blowhards will stock up on survival rations and tactical desert boots, but they couldn't civil war their way out of a Walmart.
Agreed on both points. The second means today is safer although Project 2025 spells danger ahead.
As for Trump, his physical deterioration and dementia and just general chaos of intentions are more of a check on him accomplishing evil than anything legal or political. When he runs the economy completely off the rails will it spark anything in the midterms? Will his Cabinet change every week? How long until he "never met" Elon?
So we draw breath, and persevere.

What anti trans laws are you refering to? I wasn’t aware of that.
Alberta is about to pass some pretty serious anti-trans legislature that a lot of people are protesting, but we cant really do anything (legally) to stop them
I'd ask "what have trans people ever done to anyone" but you could ask the same of any minority they harass (Facism needs a target)

Like, if people were actually that irked that he won, they'd be doing something. But no, from what I hear El Trumpo actually won the popular vote: the US wants to be fascist. Maybe Canada too. (No, not as in the US wants to be Canada... although that'd be an improvement...)
So far, it's only been his supporters trying to kill him. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
At least we'll always have the ironic laugh at how the US, a country with guns for everyone, didn't even get a tin medal in shooting the Olympics, and how the US, a country with the 2nd Amendment, can't even kill a tyrant right.
