Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack members of the community for any reason.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • These rules are somewhat loosened when the subject is a public figure. Still, do not attack their person or incite harrassment.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn. Even if you watch it on a Linux machine.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't fork-bomb your computer.

This meme is old enough to drink.

[–] [email protected] 45 points 4 months ago (3 children)

I tried to drink it but nothing happened? Maybe next year

Not exclusively, but yes. I feel called out.

I was curious so I checked.

Aqua OS X logo is 2001-2007.

    MS Vista - 7 Logo is 2006-2020.

Seems like you are correct it if the meme creator used the most recent logos at the time. So 17 or 18 years old.

It's almost too old for Leo to date.

MacOS is a great os, and it comes with solid hardware. If you use your laptop for anything except gaming, and you can pay premium, a mac is a really good choise. Also, it's a lot easier to develop apps for iphones from macs, and that's a thing that a lot of people do.

Also, it's a lot easier to develop apps for iphones from macs, and that's a thing that a lot of people do.

Given that's actually the only way to do it... (Without resorting to jumping through hoops via emulation)

I've switched my laptop from an XPS machine to an M1 Pro MBP, and it's genuinely been one of my best purchases. I can easily do my work for an entire day, and more often than not, I can spend like 3 nights in a row watching something in bed too. Not to mention that it doesn't run like a furnace, even under load

I used my 2010 MacBook Pro for about 10 years before I decided to buy a new one (no longer supported by Apple). It ran great too, for being 10 years old.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

MacBooks are great. You can still run Linux on it if you still want to use the hardware.

Or you can try OpenCore Legacy Patcher.

    What is OpenCore?

I might be an idiot, but I'm not going to use a Mac.

This meme also perpetuates the myth that to use Linux you must be an IT person. I just use it as a user.

    [–] calcopiritus 19 points 4 months ago (2 children)

This meme has the logos of the OSs from around 2007. Back then there weren't many Linux non-IT users.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I miss those old logos, the new ultra flat ultra simple logos are just so uninteresting compared to that era

This may be a hot take, but I don't think that on a linux specific meme community we should really care about what puts linux into a good light and what doesn't. I mean have you seen vegancirclejerk? We are here to laugh and that can be achived by self-deprecating humor or parodying what others think of our system of choice as well.

I am self aware enough to know that I am an idiot, but still use Linux and Windows.

    Take that, flow chart!

2024 version: Are you an idiot? Windows Do you swim in money? Mac No? Linux

[–] [email protected] 19 points 4 months ago (4 children)

Wait I'm an idiot who has a life. Why am I on Linux?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I'm not sure there's a way to answer that without being unnecessarily mean.

I would switch MacOS and Microsoft. You really have to be an idiot to install that malware onto your computer voluntarily. MacOS is much safer and if you still have the need for shenanigans you have a Unix terminal to play with.

    [–] Brkdncr 8 points 4 months ago (2 children)

you have to be an idiot to pay that much for something that locked down and unserviceable.

One does not simply install windows. It comes preinstalled

I’ve used Mac OS since 1988, BSD/UNIX since 1990, Linux since 1993 and Windows since 1995.

Due to my expertise with all these operating systems, I make enough money to have a life.

I predominantly use Apple hardware, partly because I can easily run all these OSes on it.

The Intel "cheese grater" pros were a dream multi-boot machine. EFI, clean, capable of great RAM, nice drive bays, dual ethernet.

    [–] dohpaz42 14 points 4 months ago (2 children)

At least Mac is genuinely UNIX. 🙃

So wait... Since I use both linux and a mac I'm a no life idiot? Yep, checks out.

    [–] Humorless4483 11 points 4 months ago

I have a life and that’s why I use Linux because I don’t have 3h to wait for a single forced windows update

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 months ago (4 children)

    But I can't afford a Mac :(

Programmers I’ve worked with all prefer MacBooks. And yes, you can run Linux on a Mac too.
