I see memes here that my friends don't see. My internet points have been on the rise since using Lemmy.

[–] [email protected] 69 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I don't like lemmy elitism any more than I like reddit elitism

[–] [email protected] 61 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I like Lemmy elitism more, but I am biased.

[–] [email protected] 35 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Lemmy elitism is obviously the superior elitism.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 months ago

don't be so elitist elitist

Same and as lemmy is the only one I use, it's annoying as fuck.

Ive only recently made the switch. Question for you guys. You know how there's often multiple copies of the same 'sub' on different instances. Do you subscribe to them all or just 1 copy on an instance that you like?

I'm enjoying lemmy overall. Feels like reddit 15 years ago. I just sometimes wish there was a little more content getting posted.

[–] [email protected] 38 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

I subscribe to them all and browse just my subscriptions. I often don't even care about the community the post comes from.

You actually had a similar issue on Reddit with separate but closely related subs (if you're interested in Linux, for example, there were multiple subs for Linux in general, gaming, "for noobs" which was interesting also for experienced users, memes etc).

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Good point. Do you not get your feed filled with loads of crossposts/ duplicate content?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 5 months ago

I don't but now that you mention it, that's actually surprising. I guess, Lemmy is still small enough that cross-posting isn't that much of an issue. That may change though.

[–] MacedWindow 12 points 5 months ago

Usually I just go with the most active/largest one. If there are multiple active I either sub to both or whichever one comes from the smaller instance to help keep lemmy diversified.

The trick isn't to lean on subscriptions, scroll through all-scaled for more varied posts.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago

I just sometimes wish there was a little more content getting posted.

Well, that's a problem that's within your power to fix! Start posting!

[–] [email protected] 31 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Lemmy is great, it's so good being able to use whatever app I want to use to browse it. Also the lack of karma farming power users and ads is a big bonus.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Exactly. Don't get me wrong, I post A LOT but it's because I like sharing memes and that's the end of it.

The lack of novelty accounts and rote responses also helps keep things fresh

I joined lemmy after my reddit account got banned for telling someone to crawl back into their hole.

Apparently that's a euphemism for telling someone to kill themselves???

Meanwhile in the same thread everyone was talking about infant genital mutilation and how female genial mutilation is abhorrent but circumcision is perfectly fine.

Lemmy is such an upgrade in every way except amount of content.

[–] Lionheadbud 10 points 5 months ago

Hahah that's such a redditism, thinking fgm is terrible but mgm is just fine. Brainwashed

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 months ago

Reddit once banned me for "vote brigading" a post on a subreddit that was linked in a different subreddit, a full year after I upvoted said post.

That was the day I stopped interacting on Reddit.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 5 months ago

I just checked my original account, and it looks like it was a year just a week ago.

Damn, it's already been a year.

[–] Valmond 22 points 5 months ago (2 children)

It's so small and cozy here :-)

Been here for a year too 🍰🫖

[–] rockettaco37 10 points 5 months ago

Same. It feels a lot more exciting here. It's always really cool to be around when something's somewhat new/small

[–] Resol 8 points 5 months ago

I've said it before, and I will say it again. This is my own Animal Crossing.

[–] NorthWestWind 15 points 5 months ago (1 children)

You reminded me I have missed my cake day

[–] aeronmelon 12 points 5 months ago

Happy Belated Cakeday.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 months ago (1 children)

@jonathanvmv8f

Also, it is very neat how people can interact with your posts from Mastodon, Kbin, Misskey, etc. By the very design of this place, barriers like the one that separated Reddit from Twitter do not exist here.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Score UI for Lemmy was changed recently, would the hearts be likes from Mastodon? I wouldn't know cause I never used Mastodon or Twitter lol

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 months ago

Mind you, this is specifically the UI for your client. I'd guess that since 128-3=125, the heart is the score, upvotes-downvotes?

I don't think there's any differentiation between likes form other Lemmy instances and from Mastodon instances, since they use the same unified protocol to communicate

[–] swan 9 points 5 months ago

How do you know you're on Lemmy?

They can't stop mentioning Reddit and how're they're better

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 months ago

Same, it’s nice here. I don’t miss the old place at all (especially thanks to the Voyager PWA)

[–] blanketswithsmallpox 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I'm friends with Chip and Dale who saw you at reddit recently, Ugly Sonic. Gadget still got it.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Oof that mouse woman does it for me.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

My feelings about Gadget should have clued me into my queerness, smdh.

Its so obvious in hindsight

[–] FlashMobOfOne 4 points 5 months ago

Agreed.

Huge upgrade.

[–] Masta_Chief 3 points 5 months ago

Woah it's actually my "cakeday" if we're gonna use some old reddit terminology. Wouldn't have checked if it weren't for this comment section. Can't believe it's been a year. I gotta comment/post more.

It's nice here. Reasonable people just chatting and sharing memes. Just like old Reddit (or small, well moderated subreddits but I can't use Apollo anymore so here we are).

[–] Smoogs 3 points 5 months ago

Fuck sonic looks so fucking creepy. Of all the designs they had to go with the creepiest.

[–] Itdidnttrickledown 0 points 5 months ago

I gave up on rule 33 a long time ago.
