A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Low-hanging fruit such as random Twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Matrix chat.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified ‘western’ information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. E.g. screenshots, recent reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Matrix chat instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

11. No misinformation

NCD exists to make fun of misinformation, not to spread it. Make outlandish claims, but if your take doesn’t show signs of satire or exaggeration it will be removed. Misleading content may result in a ban. Regardless of source, don’t post obvious propaganda or fake news. Double-check facts and don't be an idiot.

SAAB cars were great, they looked good, had good performance and was fantasticly safe in a crash

Yeah in what world are Saab cars shitty? They're generally pretty good as far as I know (which, to be honest, isn't all that far)

Can confirm that SAAB cars are great! Mine is coming up on 19 years old, and apart from some superficial issues still works as well as when it rolled out of the shop. SAAB was also very innovative with their cars, taking a lot of inspiration from their jets, which is clearly seen in their design.

Ah, that explains why I saw a Saab launching Sidewinders on the highway

The best car in Mario Kart

Didn't they also over-engineer their cars, with things like putting limited-slip differentials on 'normal' cars? Thought that was one of the reasons they went under.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago

They didn't go under, just stopped making cars for consumers.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

Yeah the only real downside is finding parts for them, but they're proper engineer's cars.

SAAB cars were good, if not a little quirky

SAAB/GM cars just sucked.

The saabaru! I still miss mine

It would've been funnier if the OP pointed out that Saabs are known for being a tank of a car...

[–] [email protected] 20 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Yeah, I drove a Saab for years, that thing was fantastic. Built like a tank and never had any mechanical issues (despite already being ten years old when we got it).

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I was under the impression they were similar to Range Rovers, wonderful until they broke.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I thought that was BMW.

Fun fact on Range Rovers, at least in the Uk. They’re quite easy to steal, 90 were stolen in one night. As a result the insurance companies are charging crazy prices and thus many people can’t keep the car so the market is blooded and with used ones.

This is then devaluing the cars and so other people are having trouble selling them as they’ll still owe on the finance.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

That's incredible, and they're an expensive vehicle when new, so you'd expect them to have good security.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

Yeah it’s wild. I wonder if they’ll get lawsuits for essentially selling a vehicle not fit for purpose, due to the insurance issues.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago

The only problem with them braking is trying to find parts, because they've stopped producing them. In terms of having to work on them they're still generally well designed.

Yeah this guy never drived a chad saab car

[–] [email protected] 13 points 6 months ago (3 children)

If they're so good, how come there is no SAAB 2?

[–] ChicoSuave 11 points 6 months ago

They were so good there was a Saab 9000

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 months ago

Why do you need a replacement if something is good?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago

I really think the mad guys made cars because someone dare it to do it. Like they were doing crazy good jets when someone said: Okay this is a great plane but I bet if you do a car it would be awfull. They did it. After few years they realized it wasnt profitable so they ditched SAAB cars because it was a long running joke.

And jets! Those canards look so exotic. 🥵

Saab JAS 39 Gripen jet

[–] [email protected] 10 points 6 months ago

Subaru also claims "Love" is what makes Subaru a Subaru. They also manufacture attack helicopters.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 months ago

Subaru: We will love you... To death.

[–] ZILtoid1991 4 points 6 months ago

Sometimes you need violence to protect what you love.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE ABOUT ATTACK HELICOPTERS???

[–] [email protected] 21 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Saab the defense company and Saab the car company were two different companies.

[–] Trollception 14 points 6 months ago

The motto was 'Born from Jets' so I always expected a military history for the company.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 6 months ago

maybe we’ve been approaching this all wrong – are they really vehicles? or were they actually meant to be mobile anti-tank units?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 months ago (3 children)

So what do we call mounting a SAAB on a SAAB?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 6 months ago
[–] [email protected] 7 points 6 months ago
