Of course, ice cream was involved.

President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, hosted a thank you event on Thursday for hundreds of staffers who worked on the reelection campaign that he chose to exit nearly three weeks ago.

Judging by the security tents, the location offered a dose of political nostalgia: The staffers met with Biden at The Queen, a music venue that played a critical role in his successful race for presidency in 2020, when he often spoke to the public from the theater’s stage.

After having dropped out of the race, Biden wanted to show his appreciation for the staff’s work over the past year and their continued efforts in support of Vice President Kamala Harris, who succeeded him as the Democratic nominee. That’s according to a person familiar with the president’s plans who shared details of the events but insisted on anonymity to discuss the arrangements.

The event featured food and, naturally for Biden, his beloved ice cream.

politics aside, nothing says 'im fucking old' quite like 'im throwing an ice cream social'

[–] Bassman1805 172 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Dude I WISH ice cream socials were more popular.

[–] [email protected] 35 points 3 months ago (3 children)

Who are these ice cream hating fools?!

[–] TehWorld 11 points 3 months ago (3 children)

I have a love-hate relationship with ice cream. I love the way it tastes. I hate that even taking lactose pills I still have “issues” with the aftermath. Also, that’s a lot of calories to burn off.

I’d eat an ice cream cone with Joe, any day.

Sorbet is where it's at. Every ice cream social or whatever should always have a non-dairy option. Fresh sorbet is so fuckin good.

[–] rekorse 1 points 3 months ago

Dairy free ice cream is fire.

I don't like ice cream because I'm vegan, but I'm not complaining about this event any more than I would a sausage sizzle or a cheese tasting parlour. I think it's cute

[–] rekorse 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

So much vegan ice cream out there.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

If Biden didn't serve any dairy ice cream at this event, then I applaud him.

It's ptsd from what your employer is giving you instead of a real bonus or better working conditions.

the last one i attended was in 1988

[–] [email protected] 24 points 3 months ago (1 children)

When I was in undergrad some of the chemistry students would do parties where they would dump ice cream ingredients into a big bowl and then dump liquid nitrogen in and stir vigorously to make instant nerd ice cream and then we would all have some

Idk if it was safe but it was delicious

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 months ago

that sounds amazing

theres a time and place for everything, and its college

[–] [email protected] 17 points 3 months ago

The last one I attended was under a week ago.

Sounds like you just need cooler friends.

Pun intended.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago

Sounds like you could make some homemsde,l with neighbors, outside, with an old-fashioned, hand -cranked maker, recruiting different neighbor kids to sit on top of the towel, to keep the ice in the tub

[–] redisdead 36 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I'm 40 years old and I can assure you there is no point in my life where I would have scoffed at being invited to an ice cream event.

Ice cream is cool, man.

[–] RememberTheApollo_ 17 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I have never not liked an ice cream event at any age.

Why would you dis someone giving out ice cream?

[–] peopleproblems 17 points 3 months ago

You clearly haven't enjoyed enough ice cream with friends

[–] [email protected] 16 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Our college president through one every year at start of term. Thing was... Ice cream, Mac and cheese, and kettle corn are the three foods I always see people break their cliques to have together. People just... Fucking love ice cold dairy carbs, hot gooey dairy carbs, and sugar coated kettle carbs. Doesn't matter if you necessarily know who's serving them, or anyone else who's going, people turn out for that shit. More so than even music or dancing.

Man actually. Now you're making me want to have a potluck / potlatch (depending on your region) art event where everyone just brings Mac and cheese. Not even as a competition. Just come down to the municipal park, bring some Mac and cheese, and participate in a drum circle or a poetry reading or play a banjo. Everyone come have gooey dairy carbs and enjoy each others company

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

i love the idea of a mac an cheese potluck!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

We won't even judge on the quality of your Mac and cheese. Show up with a pot of easy Mac because that's what you know to make? You're good. Get in here

[–] mightyfoolish 1 points 3 months ago

Free food is automatically high quality (as long as safe for consumption).

[–] madcaesar 10 points 3 months ago

What? Why? Ice cream is awesome.

[–] Ensign_Crab 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

As opposed to an ice cream antisocial. Which is just Dairy Queen.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

This also qualifies as an ice cream antisocial: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/comment/10137657

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

A bunch of friends and I all got the ice cream cone skin in Fortnite and partied in the lobby.

Nothing says ageist like making it as if being old is bad. As if you won’t be one day. It’s weird.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

im already there, does that make it ok?
