At least the recap was good for some funny self-owns:
News and Discussions about Reddit
Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules
Rule 1- No brigading.
**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **
YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

It stopped working for me with a vpn. They are really pushing people away at this point.
I guess it’s an issue is profitability. I think long term, these companies can’t survive. It really depends on a community support.
I use old Reddit and a third party app, so my recap made no sense
I liked that
What app is that? Are any of them still working?
Iirc Joe for Reddit was one of the few third party apps, that were able to continue using the api for free ( or almost? ).
I don't remember what the conditions were though, there was some catch, something they had to feature in their apps in order to get the free api access.
A few of mine continued to work as normal, and I'm not sure why
Reddit mobile browser is THE definition of asshole design
All of reddit's newer design is the definition of asshole design. Once old.reddit.com is killed off the site will be as unusable as X or TikTok is on web for logged out users.
Why are you still using reddit?
Why not?
(Also look at the community you are replying in... What use is there on quesrioning why people use reddit on the c/reddit, it's like when people say "why are you using 4chan" on r/4chan lol)
To be fair, both sites are pretty much gaping shit holes at this point.
I mean, yeah somewhat, I'm just pointing out the idiocy of asking that question in a place specifically designed to talk about those places.
Also, regardless of how bad the sites as a whole are, making the transition fully is just plain too difficult, there are communities that haven't moved and no matter if you are putting effort to have them here, you won't be able to get a question about a program answered if there are 3 active people on a community
On top of that while I did quit mostly cold turkey after Apollo shut down, putting Reddit at the end of internet searches especially for games (looking at you planetside and V Rising) really helps me manage to this exact piece of niche information I need
I go to Reddit for literally one thing every week- a schedule I won't see anywhere else. I just look at the schedule and leave. But I still need Reddit to see that schedule.
I'm not really using it like before, i jump there sometimes from search results and am logged in automatically...
I haven't deleted my account yet, because idk, there are some things I'd like to be able to look up.
Deleting all my posts and then my account was the best thing I've done in ages
I am actually really tempted now to do so.
Dew it!
Done!
Edit: i also wanted to make a screenshot of the "account deleted" message, but after clicking on "delete" you're just redirected to the front page, no confirmation whatsoever... Lame
Edit 2: yes, i deleted all my posts/comments beforehand. At least that was confirmed.
Nice!
Same
Their app is so shit they have to extort people to use it.
Blocking modal windows are a sin and make me less likely to interact with a site. Imgur is also guilty. No, I don't want to participate in your community meme event when I'm just trying to look at an image on the app that is clogging up my RAM because you think it does something important and interesting enough to warrant deeplinking it in an electron wrapper.
Also, while I'm here, fuck modal windows with no X to close button which forces you to read the buttons to figure out which one is the "fuck off" button and not the "take all my money" button.
Or the X has the same color as the background, making it hard to see at all and so small, it's almost unusable on Mobile.
These are all intentional, to make it hard for you. I build websites for a living and clients actually ask for designs that "keep" the user on the site. Since i have no say in things other than the area that affects my work, i sometimes hate my job and have no other way than just do my job.
"Oh, the cancel button is too big. Make it smaller or better yet, don't make it a button, just a small text link, somewhere at the bottom, with font-size: 9 px .... And remove the underline..."
Hey, remember the days of pop-up windows where the X button was labelled "Open in background" if you hovered over it. At least there's been some progress. \s
Please get the app
Please
The only way to use Reddit on mobile is to use old Reddit. You have to zoom in to tap on things, but holy hell it's still so much better than the mobile version of the website.
It's wild to me that Reddit never developed a reasonably functional mobile version of their site. They bought out a few designs, and relied on 3rd party apps for a while, and now they're doing their utmost to force everyone to use the garbage pile that is their current design. I just don't see how it proved such an impossible task for them.
Eh, the worse the experience is, the less I want to use Reddit, which is only good if you ask me.
I'm glad I have slowly moved away from Reddit, hope we get some sort of Fedi recap stuff in the future as is a really cool idea but glad we don't get forced to use Apps and stuff.
To a point there's an interesting balance to be had...
On one hand sure these stats are fun, on the other people on the Fediverse don't want secret tabs kept on them, or more information collected than necessary.
At least you can go through your profile and look at your top posts and comments.
I would guess it would be instance to instance basis and will most likely have to be 100% transparent with what it's doing.
Any recap "service" suggests (necessitates, even) that said site is digging deeply through the data it has on you. It's only function is to normalize the notion that these companies have your data and "it's really not a big deal because they're doing this fun stuff with it, right?"
Suffice to say, I'm good without a Fediverse "recap".
also fun live event
One of the advantages of being on old reddit like a hopeless geezer is not getting to see that shit.
2023 isn’t over?
Meh, I opened Reddit just to lurk on the only subreddit I would post on. Recap for that community reminded me it was all one big circle jerk… but now with more advertisements.
Doesn't desktop mode in a mobile browser get around this?
Works if you view as desktop
Infinity for reddit was working for me but today I installed android 14 and its now asking to pay for subscription. I am now officially of Lemmy. No more reddit for me.
My recap would show all of my accounts go inert right around the time I jumped over to lemmy (circa beans, Titan implosion).
I just deleted my reddit account. There's no going back now.
