YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

So many people were bootlicking Andy Yen in the Reddit thread. Where the commenters were attacking the poster for suggesting that he should resign from the ceo position for praising Donald Trump and then doubling down on the original statement using the official proton account.

this was a while ago, so i forgot the sub, but the mod of it permabanned me for speaking russian because “he and his friends didn’t like my culture.” i ranted about this in another sub, but i quickly became shadowbanned. eventually, i was permabanned from Reddit as i apparently violated a rule and harassed a guy? I didn’t even put the guys username, nor do I remember it—it was definitely generated by Reddit tho.

of course, it’s been a while ago, so I don’t want anyone to actually do anything, but this is more of a genuine question rather than “I have his username and all his details: I want him banned.”

(First off, I just got banned for having multiple accounts :/)

I frequented the AITA posts and the advice posts, and I saw one from a teenage girl.

She has a boyfriend, and her male friend wouldn’t leave her alone as he was obsessed with her.

She kept telling him no and wanted to be just friends with him, until she had to block him.

The comments were outrageous. Some were saying stuff like “good on you for blocking him. you’re not responsible for his feelings, nta”.

however, some people were calling her a whore, saying she was seeking validation from other men, that men and women couldn’t be friends.

I have no idea where they’re drawing this conclusion. I know many women who have male friends with nothing between them.

And it’s completely plausible for a male friend to have feelings. She can’t control his feelings. She didn’t start dating/making out with him and clearly wasn’t interested in him, so she didn’t cheat.

they also said she was asking for him to be attracted to her, that it was her fault, etc.

They were even saying that the girl was terrible and that the guy was “NTA, not even a little” because he just had a “harmless crush and couldn’t control his feelings” even though he literally asked her to cheat on her bf and guilt-tripped her right before she blocked him?

This feels kind of gross, poor OP was 15 when she made the post :/

I've noticed a lot of linking to articles from Fox News and the New York Post. I'm sure everyone already knows about Fox News but you may not know that the New York Post has essentially the same flaws as Fox News. I believe that these "news" sources should at minimum have restrictions or face an outright ban.

I've previously posted on this topic at length I just thought of trying to extend this to Reddit. Sadly I don't have an usable account because for some weird reason got shadow banned when I tried to create an account so the best I can do is ask that people here with a Reddit account for help.

I'm urging everyone with a Reddit account to send a message to the moderators of r/news and r/politics urging for these two policies:

  1. Automoderator message warning that the website is known for low quality reporting and it's owned by Murdoch and therefore may contain conflict of interests.

  2. Encourage users to link to reputable news sources and develop media literacy skills to. Posts to low quality news sources should be deleted when similar but higher quality content is available elsewhere. Often times the NY Post and Fox News just summarize from more reputable news sources and add their own bias and opinion to the story.

These policies should also be applied to similar websites that have the same flaws but are not owned by Murdoch. For example websites like The Daily Mail are similar because although they are not owned my Murdoch they have the same flaws in that they are not committed to telling the truth and instead profit by spreading hate, lies and propaganda.

In addition whenever you see someone share a link on a Murdoch rag or similar no matter what social media platform they are on please try to educate people on what website they are using and how it's biased.

Here's an example comment I posted when I saw someone linked to nypost.com on the Technology community.

Just so you all know the New York Post is a Rupert Murdoch (same person who owns Fox News) rag. According to Wikipedia it wasn’t profitable from 1976 to 2022 perhaps even loosing up to $70 million a year. The reason why he ran it at a loss for so long is for influence. Prior to Murdoch’s acquisition the “Post was seen to have liberal tilt, supporting trade unions and social welfare”. Now it’s a conservative trash rag.

Reddit bans (discuss.tchncs.de)

I have a question, why is it that when reddit bans someone the only indication you get is server error?

I have mentioned in this group before that I had a 10 year old account with high karma totals that was permanently banned site wide 2 years ago. I had posted an article that conflicted with the reddit world view from a "source" that reddit allowed for linked posts. Anyway not to go into all that again here's what happened.

I had read the discussions in this group regarding the changes at X and Meta. The shift is that all opinions are allowed except calling for violence or things obviously not true like the Sun rises in the West.

So I made another "appeal" to reddit with the perfunctory pledge not to violate their rules, which I won't.

Next day I was reinstated. Are they shifting like X and Meta? Don't know but if not it was a strange coincidence.

Though I prefer Lemmy I still enjoy the NON political reddit groups like for books, golf, etc. About a month ago I messaged the Lemmy Admins to appoint me a mod to the Lemmy "golf" group since it had been dormant for over a year. I was appointed a mod there. I started posting golf related things but with almost zero interaction from anyone on Lemmy. I realize that Lemmy has few active users. I read something a few weeks ago that actually estimated that there were only 1K of us.

I wish we could turn that around here and revive some of these groups.

Apologize if this has been asked before.

I don't want to set up a new account, but only get my banned account reactivated.

The account is approximately 10 years old. Was permanently banned 2 years ago. Karma total over 3 million. Mod of 4 popular subreddits. Never once threatened another poster or commentor. Never called for violence.

Never previously banned from a subreddit or site wide.

In a group that I moderated I posted an news article. There were "reports" about the post. As as mod I could see the reports. Remember that reddit bans posts from some "news" sites. So the article I posted was from an unbanned news source.

A few days later my account was banned site wide. I presume some users had found a method to get right to Admins to protest the fact that I dared post an article that they didn't like.

After the ban I made a few "appeals". Of course I got the standard "NO" regarding reinstatement without any specific mention regarding what exactly I did wrong. Reddit has site wide rules. I violated none of them.

Occasionally I will do a search of something and if it is a reddit source it will come up under my banned account on my laptop using Chrome. I never deleted the account and I'm sure the "reddit KILL" cookies are still in Chrome which I use for browsing. I still have the reddit app on my Iphone.

I haven't made an appeal in over a year. I have no interest in setting up a NEW account. I'm just inquiring as to the possibility of getting my banned account reinstated.

If it exists, I haven't found it, but was wondering if there is a method of appealing that is different from the norm where some Admin will actually read your appeal and after 2 years reinstate you.

AITA for not wanting to drop charges on a 10 year old kid that beat up my 9 year old at school?

Some background my kids go to a school where over 90% of the student population are refugees/immigrants. We live in a neighborhood that is the same circumstances as my kids school.

Cut to yesterday. My 9 year old girl was out at recess. She was playing basketball with friends. This bully walked up behind her, pushed her to the ground and when she was getting up the kid kicked her in the head like it was a soccer ball.   My wife went down to check my girl out of school. She'll be ok, I hope, but she has scratches on the side of her face, a black eye and it's swollen.

School principal said he'd handle it. Later on he called my wife and I separately and asked us to drop the charges because the student doesn't "understand" that what they did was wrong.   I told the principal that if the school isn't going to discipline the bully I will call the police department and files charges. AITA for not wanting to drop charges on a 10 year old kid?

Edit: NO Im not racist. The principal/school admin uses the fact that they are refugees/immigrants to excuse their behavior actions all to often. Principal is retiring at the end of this year.

Update: she does have a minor concussion per ED pa. Keeping an eye on her currently.

After getting randomly banned on a subreddit (without breaking any of the rules) and accidentally posting on there with a different account, Reddit permanently banned me from their site. Appealing the ban didn't work.

Now, as soon as I create a new Reddit account it gets automatically suspended either immediately or after a few minutes to sometimes hours.

I assume many on Lemmy face similar situations and also switched to Lemmy because of a similar reason and they might also wonder how to bypass such a ban.

It seems like Reddit is using advanced fingerprinting since normal methods such as switching VPN, deleting and re-installing the browser/Reddit mobile app (including all associated data) and changing email doesn't work.

I'm not skilled enough and don't really have any "hacker knowledge" to bypass the ban. After extensive research I couldn't find a better solution than getting a new device or formatting the whole device.

I assume there must be a better way of changing ones fingerprint without just fully formatting the devices. Maybe it could work by changing the MAC address or something?

My goal is to not have a complicated way of accessing Reddit and resolving the issue in a way that one can access it completely normally again like in my case with the Chrome/Edge browser on Windows, Safari on Mac, and the Reddit app on Android.

Maybe someone has the knowledge here to help with this.

The question is, what game would you buy it's remaster in a heartbeat.

And now it's gone.

I couldn't care less about such a thing (it's not like I could use it with Sync for Reddit anyway) but I genuinely thought these gimmicks were already dead?

I definitely recall some redditors commenting on something like "if awards still exist I would give you one right away".

Can I transfer my awards from Reddit to Lemmy? /s

If you don’t want to see Reddit ever again in search like I did, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Install the extension from the Firefox store.

Step 2: Search Reddit.

Step 3: On your first search result drag your cursor over to the right on the drop-down arrow and select the crossed out eye.

Step 4: Hide all the Reddit suggestions on your first page.

Step 5: Now you won’t hear a beep again from that Snoo.
