What non-crime anthology tv series would you recommend? (self.asklemmy)

I've been enjoying some classic shows' '90s/'00s revivals/reboots like Twilight Zone and Outer Limits lately, but I'd love to know of some other series with a similar anthology style to them.

They don't have to be similar to Twilight Zone/Outer Limits btw, just that format of different stories & casts each episode is what I've been enjoying.

Here are some anthology series that I enjoyed at the time I watched them. I have not thought about many of these until you asked and now I'm wanting to rewatch them.

Electric Dreams : Loved this short lived series. It felt like it was supposed to compete with Black Mirror. Not sure why it only lasted for 1 season.

Room 104 : I really liked that they (almost) all take place entirety in a small motel room. Quality of the episodes vary greatly in my opinion.

The Hitchhiker : Horror anthology from the 80s. Not sure if it holds up.

Inside No. 9 : Really hard to pin down this BBC anthology series, but worth a try.

Love, Death & Robots : A (mostly) animated anthology series that was just fun.

Tales from the Darkside : 80s horror / sci-fi anthology series that I enjoyed watching when I was younger.

The Booth at the End : Really interesting anthology series that takes place entirely as a conversations in a booth at a diner.

I feel like I could go on as each one reminds me of others, but I'll stop there (at least for now).

Ooh, thanks for the suggestions! Besides Love, Death, & Robots, I think the only other one I've heard of from this list might be Tales from the Darkside, but I've never watched it either.

The big obligatory mention has gotta be Black Mirror on Netflix. Will you love every episode? Probably not. Will you like every episode? Maybe. Are there some exceptionally amazing episodes? Most definitely! It's worth a shot.

The mood can vary vastly so I'd recommend checking out a few of the top rated episodes out of order. If you end up liking them, I think it's worth it to go back and watch the rest from the beginning. You can look at high rated episodes on something like IMDB and see if any sound interesting to check out first. The list I'd choose from would be:

White Christmas (Season 2, Episode 4)
Fifteen Million Merits (Season 1, Episode 2)
San Junipero (Season 3, Episode 4)
Joan is Awful (Season 6, Episode 1)
Beyond the Sea (Season 6, Episode 3)

Others that I might switch out with this list from time to time:

USS Callister (Season 4, Episode 1)
Hang the DJ (Season 4, Episode 4)
Be Right Back (Season 2, Episode 1)
Nosedive (Season 3, Episode 1)
Shut Up and Dance (Season 3, Episode 3)

No matter what you do I wouldn't recommend starting with the first episode. It's arguably the most divisive and so many people disliked it that they started there and never watched any others since they thought they'd all be the same. I thought it was good but can completely understand why it might not be the best introduction to hook in a wide audience. That said, I enjoyed them all, though easily some more than others.

Oh, duh! This one completely slipped my mind but definitely fits, you're right!

I've watched several episodes of it & enjoyed them, but it is very much an either go in with the right mindset or pick whichever episodes sound interesting to you series. I'd kinda stopped following it since a lot of the episodes tend to follow a similar somewhat dour theme, but I may have to skim through some of the later episodes again & see which catch my eye.

That's totally fair, the episodes can definitely get pretty dour! I'm not sure which ones you've already seen but if you're looking for the episodes that end up being more uplifting and fun, they are:

Hang the DJ (Season 4, Episode 4)
Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too (Season 5, Episode 3) [easier to enjoy if you've ever seen a Disney Channel Original Movie as the episode is a spoof on them, from the story beats followed to casting Miley Cyrus to poke fun at her own Disney Channel roots.]
