Ever tried Factorio on amphetamines?

[–] agent_flounder 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

With my ADHD that's probably the only way I could play it.

[–] peopleproblems 28 points 1 year ago (3 children)

As someone with ADHD, I will say that adderall helps me stop playing Factorio.

You know that hyperfocus thing we do?

factorio turned that up to 11 if I didn't take my morning dose before I started to play it. I say before, because if I didn't take it, it would be 5pm by the time I realize I needed to take it

[–] agent_flounder 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oof. It's one of those kinds of games, then. Ok, I will steer clear. I don't need another hyperfocus magnet in my life lol

See also: Cities skylines.

Yeah factorio is an absolute sink hole where time just disappears. I cannot wait for v2.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Without medication I hyperfocus on Factorio but get nothing done. Anything I do get done, ends up being spaghetti and I have to rip it all up later. With my meds I can actually get stuff done instead of staring absentmindedly at the conveyor belts (they are seriously hypnotic) and upgrading a random machine here or there.

It's not wrong. What do you think your smartphone is?

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 year ago (3 children)

A mobile computer heavily optimized to exploit the mental weaknesses of most users to distract and advertize to them as often as possible, while extracting and selling their information.

But it's also device occassionally reworked by some users to not be so obnoxious, and just a very useful and variable tool with access to an unprecedented library of knowledge. But that really is pretty rare.

"wow you have the entire knowledge of the world in your pocket what do you use it for?"

"Tiktok."

And the overprescribing of Adderall.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Is there any evidence that it's being overprescribed? I only ask because I know prescriptions have jumped but I also know that women over 30 are seen as an epidemic of those never diagnosed, and now that they are finally being diagnosed (and some choose to start medication) I wonder if it's that it's overprescribed or if we're just catching up?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I wish someone would prescribe me Adderall.

[–] postmateDumbass 1 points 1 year ago

Just need a way to microdose it

I mean, if antidepresives & social media count, then this indeed happened. But it doesn't count and instead we pursued the goal of achieving climate change asap & rigging the economy for stagnation of human development.

Adderall is the linchpin of many a functioning student.

[–] NegativeInf 15 points 1 year ago (2 children)

An ADHD diagnosis changed my entire life. 10 years of treatment for depression. Then bam! Adderall!

[–] agent_flounder 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Same but Vyvanse. Diagnosed at 40.

Love the neurotypicals apparently thinking the other guy was being sarcastic with conditions notorious for comorbidity.

Toss in some anxiety and you have a "gifted" student.

[–] NegativeInf 5 points 1 year ago

Hahaha. I'm in this comment and I hate it. And yes, I was being genuine. Diagnosed at 30 with ADHD.

[–] PopShark 1 points 1 year ago

Toss in growing up without any resources offered to help you and then have an existential crisis once on proper meds as an adult wondering how all those years would’ve been different with just a fuckin occasional shrink visit sometime in early teenage years

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Ffs, they keep telling me I'm too old for amphetamines & to just stick with antidepressos.

[–] spittingimage 20 points 1 year ago

Turned out linking human brains to computers just makes the computers stupider.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago

That's it, 2016 is the year of Linux on the desktop.

[–] medicsofanarchy 17 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

I love stuff like this. Source?

Edit: Thanks! I also find the psychology disturbing: "Yay! We get to have slaves again! Except, you know, animals this time because that's okay..."

[–] ekZepp 17 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

It should be from a comic strip of "Our New Age" - Athelstan Spilhaus More here

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

This is amazing, thank you!

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

That's just smartphones and coffee

[–] FlyingSquid 5 points 1 year ago

Yet another one of Elon Musk's overpromises...

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

You mean the year Trump was elected and people voted for Brexit? Yeah...

[–] Treczoks 4 points 1 year ago

Well, there is ADHS medication, so they got it half right...
