I guarantee you that absolutely no one in America is going to confuse Italy for "maybe Croatia?". Absolutely everyone knows Italy is the one that looks like a high-heeled boot, and a very large percentage probably have never even heard of Croatia.

You guys are wildly overestimating how much Europeans know about Ohio

[–] [email protected] 31 points 1 year ago (5 children)

Damn is Ohio really that popular

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Calling all those states Ohio is a high end insult

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

No. An American made both sides of this map, and it shows.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

7th largest state by population, behind CA, TX, FL, NY, PA, and IL. Might be popular for Europeans because a lot of immigrants go to Ohio.

I would appreciate if you could move "russia" to the right a bit, thank you very much

can't help, the map was drawn by Comrade Putin

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

That's what Putin did and look how THAT turned out!

It's "how USA sees" not "how it is irl".

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (3 children)

Nah, we know where Ukraine is right now. But I would not have any clue where Georgia was if OP didn't label it...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah, but ppl i know still place it as ex-ussr fighting for freedom tbh

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

So you would say that it usually ISN'T on your mind even though the devil went down there?

Most americans have no thoughts related to france owning northern africa. I know the joke is that algeria is independent now but most american never knew france ruled that region at all

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I know I learned it in high school at one point but definitely isn't something I would have been able to recall on my own.

These are the places that make up the USA:

  • east side (new york city)
  • west side (california)
  • florida
  • texas
  • washington (the state, not the capitol)
  • that 70's show
  • breaking bad
  • the empty lands (deserts, woods and farmland)

As a Michigander I am greatly offended.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I'm honestly astounded anyone outside of the US thinks about Ohio at all

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Honestly it's probably 95% because Ohio has become a meme over the last few years

European here: We don't. No idea where most of that map is supposed to come from.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Different breed of European here: We do. No idea why but everyone i know seems to know basic ones + Ohio for some reason.

[–] Guy_Fieris_Hair 0 points 1 year ago

I live in the US and digit Ohio existed

[–] cmbabul 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

As a Georgian, at least y'all didn’t get lumped into Alabama

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

As a European with an American girlfriend who's originally from Cheeseland and now lives in Best Carolina, I'm not thrilled either..

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Better than Indiana at least..

[–] DustyNipples 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Replace England with just London

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

@DustyNipples @Maddison, for the USA? Replace the rest of the World with Mexico or Canada

[–] expatriado 8 points 1 year ago

Turkish gonna love it

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

For me personally I would add "Arcadia Bay" to where Oregon is and most Europeans know New Mexico bc of Breaking Bad so maybe add "Meth" there

[–] tacosplease 3 points 1 year ago

Bro I'm American and don't know what Arcadia Bay is

Australia now moved to the black sea

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

According to this, Australia is just a body of water? You guys living on makeshift atolls out there or something?

[–] Imgonnatrythis 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

How can you tell it's water if it's not blue?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Because the sea is black (or is it red?)

As an American (Georgian):

Sad there isn't a dot in the middle of germany called NEUTRALITY

Georgia in Europe is annoying so we would call them "joor-jee-yuh" instead, at least in Augusta GA lol.

Oh, we know Ireland, most would often just give them the entire island out of ignorance & laziness tbh.

Sidenote: Ex-USSR bit is pretty effing accurate tho lol

[–] Nice_Melt_Pleb 6 points 1 year ago

Nah see I've played paradox games, I can label most of those European countries.

For some reasons a big part of Africa speaks French. There's even a theory predicting that French could be the most spoken language in the World by the end of the century because of Africa's population growth.
