It wasn't a government-funded thing, it says at the end that ABC TV did it all by themselves.

So who decided that was true?

Dentists. Because it’s true. It helps produce saliva which helps with plaque. It also exercises your jaw muscles. They emphasize crunchy vegetables and fruits which are plain healthy.

The jaw thing can't be understated - the better trained your jaw muscles are the less breathing problems you will have.

Dentists. 4/5 of them, in fact.

That's not a source, that's just you saying a thing

I was making a joke.

4/5 dentists recommend [...]

is a bit of a meme

Well, would you believe 9/10 of them?

I believe I have heard over the years that it is good to subject your teeth to actually chewing foods. Idk about going extremely hard or crunchy, as teeth are still susceptible to wear & even breakage if the food is rock-hard.

But the body is meant to be subjected to certain pressures & stimuli. That's why astronauts lose all their foot calluses in space & it fucks with their bodies in many other ways, like bone & muscle loss. Coming back to earth...I've heard that teeth need to chew something, or they might become loose. Gums probably wouldn't do well, either. This becomes more important as people slurp their smoothies, protein shakes, meal replacement shakes....I get the convenience of it all...but our bodies are machines. Finely tuned, very physical, machines. They need to be worked properly, or we malfunction.

Potential source, but it mainly deals with gumming your food & chewing without teeth or dentures. Like I've heard, it makes references to positive pressure & stimulating production of saliva, features of a normal & healthy mouth.

Chew real food, chew healthy food, swish with water after sweets, gently brush 2-3x/day...all good advice that makes sense.

I mean, it was geared towards eating healthier food and not Corn Nuts and ice cubes. It might have been a way to trick kids into eating healthier using Fonzi and “Grease” greaser stereotypes that were popular at the time.

Isn't it funny how we look back to 80s as nostalgia, but so much of that was recycled 50s nostalgia. Has anyone ever lived through and authentic era?

Yeah but he sold inferior copper

Your teeth don't need exercise per se but your jaw bones and muscle dose and it can help your teeth grow straight, preferably from hard vegetables or meat fats but technically it would work with hard candy it just has the unintended consequences of rotting your teeth.

Wow... thats one way to sell more crunchy cereal!

Maybe there was a scare about jaw musculature?

That’s some straight up Mewmaxxing shit, I’m just assuming it was him

Funny, I always figured that chewing large amounts of chewing gum for extended periods would be a better exercise. I used to do it a lot to try to increase my weak ass jawline.

I can't tell if they have rolled up jeans, or if they're wearing leg warmers 🤔

So, I didn't watch this video because I generally don't like watching random videos. However, I do have a little bit of knowledge on the topic due to recent news that was on (IIRC) BBC News.

It turns out that human jaws have become narrower over time correlated with their eating processed foods, which are much softer than whole foods.

Which is to say that what you eat wouldn't necessarily strengthen your teeth, but it would strengthen your jaw.
