There's no test to be a parent. All you have to do is fuck. Creampied by some rando behind a dumpster? Congratulations, the MIRACLE of life.

Human society never really evolves, just rows in circles.

This baffles me so often. I have a coworker who is on cigarettes, weed, caffeine, and alcohol. But is not vaccinated, because that's unhealthy.

Lately he cought me in the office eating sweets and started to educate me how bad sugar is.

You can't make that shit up.

There's a reckoning coming with social media mark my words. I don't know when or how but it's going to reach a tipping point when the destruction is enough.

It is destroying families and communities not government, or science, or policies. People like Elon and Zuckerberg are sowing the seeds that are actively destroying the fabric of society.

It's already happened, we elected Donald fucking Trump to be president TWICE

[–] WhatAmLemmy 3 points 19 hours ago

Yeah. This guy seems to think "the reckoning" will be some sort of revolution, where in the real world we're steamrolling into fascist dystopia.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Are you working with RFK Jr?

[–] LorIps 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Well @[email protected] is actually Donald Trump, believe it or not.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Lmao imaging he'd go on Lemmy to vent about his "co worker" lol

[–] LorIps 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Smart talking about yourself in the 3rd person to hide who you are.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm not Trump. I have the identity. The best identity. You can ask everyone. "The best identity" they say. Is he fit to run for president? Yes. Is Dungrad his secret identity. No. Clear no. Think back Waterloo and ... and what they did to those wonderful people. Put that into perspective. Even Obama said Dungrad is not his identity. I like my coworkers. He likes his coworkers. Hardworking people they are.

Truly a masterful example of the weave, Mr. President

Lately he cought me in the office eating sweets and started to educate me how bad sugar is.

I mean, people do tend to eat more sugar than they probably should, but the main artificial sweetener that I see used in candies is xylitol, which is, unfortunately, also a laxative. Eat more than a few xylitol-sweetened candies at one sitting, and one's in for diarrhea.

I assume that we don't have an artificial sweetener in 2024 that both avoids having a laxative effect and has the appropriate properties to subsititute for sugar in candies. I'd be delighted if someone would manage to develop one, though.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

The laxative properties disappear after a while (a few weeks). Our body accommodates for it so that 200g per day are no big problem anymore.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

Good lord. I went to the kitchen to get me a coffee and grabbed a cookie from the snack bar.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Xylitol also have interesting properties for preventing tooth decay. Not the worst sugar alternative imo

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

IIRC it doesn't do anything prevent tooth decay, it just doesn't cause it, unlike sugar and many other sugar substitutes.

[–] idiomaddict 2 points 1 day ago

It stimulates the salivary glands, and saliva does prevent tooth decay.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

Yes we do, they just arent as cheap.

[–] billwashere 40 points 1 day ago

Ok this is way more than mildly infuriating…

[–] [email protected] 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Am I an asshole if my first thought was "vaccinate the child while the mother is outside"?

[–] TankovayaDiviziya 40 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The child is having a fever. It's not good to vaccinate a sick person.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

But otherwise, no.

[–] cymbal_king 96 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You shouldn't be able to smoke outside an ER anyway... People come through there with life threatening problems and need all the oxygen they can get

[–] [email protected] 33 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Need to be 9m from the doors around here and maybe as smoking gets less and less popular it will change to outside the hospital's lot like we already do with schools...

[–] AA5B 10 points 1 day ago

Does not help if no one enforces it. About 10 years back we were on vacation and had to rush our little one to the ER. Since it was a breathing issue and the waiting room was crowded, they suggested we wait outside. Sure enough, then we had to get away from the smokers congregating near the “No smoking on hospital grounds” sign.

Of course the personnel weren’t interested in helping to clear that, and we decided people waiting at the ER were already under enough stress

[–] Carighan 8 points 1 day ago

Yeah in my sister's town the hospital no longer has a smoking area. Some patients run off into the park behind the hospital to have one, and I guess the doctors and nurses just vape in some room instead.

Friendly reminder. THIS is the type of bullshit the boomers grew up with, and see nothing wrong with.

But a 16 year old at Walgreens working register needing to call for a manager to sell cigerettes because she legally can't? Well that teenager is clearly what's wrong with society!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

You know, before it was scientifically proven that smoking, asbestos, leaded gasoline, heroine, thalidomide/contergan, etc etc were health hazards, people had no reason to believe that those things were unhealthy.

I totally agree that it's bullshit someone can't legally sell cigarettes or alcohol while being underage when the recipient is old enough, but believing those things are healthy in a time where it was sold as state of the art or even miracle cures doesn't really mean boomers are dumb.

"Reduces flesh" is such odd wording. Whose flesh? What flesh?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

What flesh?

I expect that they're referencing this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cigarette_smoking_for_weight_loss

Cigarette smoking for weight loss is a weight control method whereby one consumes tobacco, often in the form of cigarettes, to decrease one's appetite. The practice dates to early knowledge of nicotine as an appetite suppressant.

Tobacco smoking was associated with appetite suppression among Pre-Columbian indigenous Americans and Old World Europeans.[1] For decades, tobacco companies have employed these connections between slimness and smoking in their advertisements, mainly in brands and advertisements targeting women.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They seem to imply that if instead of eating a snack you have a cigarette, then you'll lose weight

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah, "flesh" is just such weird wording though. Like saying "reduces meat"

[–] Carighan 7 points 1 day ago

They mean the nicrotic flesh rotting off later in life, getting a foot or a leg amputated is the fastest way to loose weight after all. Worked a year in a ward for smoking patients, the smell is so haunting...

[–] AnUnusualRelic 4 points 1 day ago

It was written in the newspaper. Right there !

[–] [email protected] 48 points 2 days ago

Once someone stops thinking that they should do what the scientific and medical communities advise, it's not a large step for them to start thinking they should do specifically what they advise against.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 days ago

More than mildly.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago (4 children)

She went outside to smoke, so that's good at least.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon 9 points 1 day ago

Bet she doesn't at home though.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

Yeah, likely right in front of the doors so she makes sure to poison everyone else, too.

The front of my local hospital always has people smoking, and you'll always be breathing it in if you're trying to enter the ER or main entrance or parking lot or the park beside it.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

But the child is inside her though(atleast one of them)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

I missed that small detail.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

Just because you are not allowed to smoke in there. I guarantee she would have smoked indoors otherwise.
