But the marketplace! But my friend from highschool I haven't spoken to or even sent a message in decades! Keep clinging to those excuses to hang around.

The biggest problem in America is the largest most profitable companies pay 21% instead of 15% corporate income tax, apparently. Meanwhile all peeps of no taxes on tips or SS have disappeared.

I am sure they would have donated to Harris too, not sure what's so big news about this

Lol. Our society is straight pathetic.

Our ancestors are turning over in their graves.

We're going to end up being the most embarrassing era in American history. Assuming history is taught in the future.

I'm descended from an officer killed by the British in the American revolution.

My parents and my brother all voted for Trump.

This blatant cock gobbling makes me sick.

[–] random_character_a 31 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Let me get my little black book of boycott.

Oh. It's already there on the first page since forever.

Maybe I'll just flip off Zucky when I see him next time.

Supporting a fascist gala... $1,000,000.

Banning TikTok... Priceless!

Tell me this isn't corruption.

[–] danc4498 39 points 7 hours ago

Corruption implies this isn’t exactly how it’s meant to work.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 hours ago

Just need to readjust thresholds a bit friend. For example, I used to think that using the office of the president like a QVC platform to promote a bunch of cheap crap made in China for personal financial gain seemed pretty corrupt and not to mention just plain gross. After giving myself a violent lobotomy though (don't tell me you haven't thought of it too) , I'm happily purchasing a subscription to the new presidential perfume and find that it is really helpful in attracting all kinds of incel friends.

[–] expatriado 10 points 7 hours ago

Watch his inauguration be empty as fuck like it was last time

[–] thehatfox 54 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Zuck bending his own knee in the vain hope he won't get bent over Trump's.

Maybe he should have spent a little less attention on Caesar and tried to learn a few other lessons from history.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Dude think he's Caesar but he's Crassus....

[–] [email protected] 15 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Nah Elon is dimestore Crassus because he's richer. Marky mark is Lepidus because of his horse face.

[–] InternetCitizen2 5 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Why not Marc Anthony? He gets left in charge and everything goes wrong.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

Because I don't want to watch Marcus Zucitus run the lupercalia

[–] [email protected] 17 points 6 hours ago

Someone needs to pay for all those people to attend, otherwise it will be a ghost town on the National Mall.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 6 hours ago

What about my inaugural fund???

[–] PrivacyDingus 19 points 7 hours ago

the tech CEO to right-winger pipeline is well greased in the year of our lord twenty twenty four

[–] [email protected] 23 points 7 hours ago

They make a nice couple. Orange lizard team.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 6 hours ago

Whew folks lined up to kiss that ring FAST!

If there’s any good that comes of this blatant corruption, I hope it’s Trump leaving open source ML alone instead of giving into whatever monopoly Altman is pushing.

There’s basically a fediverse vs Facebook war going on within AI land, and the tremendous irony is that Zuck is a huge open weights proponent.

[–] Blue_Morpho 12 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Zuck is a huge open weights proponent.

No he isn't. It's a position he holds for the moment to harm competitors. It allows him to take the work of others for his own profit.

The moment his engineers create a competitive improvement, it will be proprietary.

[–] brucethemoose 6 points 6 hours ago

That’s, unfortunately, the position of everyone “big” in the open weights ecosystem now, just in different flavors.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 hours ago

If Meta creates a solid foundation of open AI to get to that point then I will give him credit for that, though. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Meta's doing the right thing right now, if you reject that because eventually Meta will do something that isn't then you'll get nothing at all.

[–] Brunbrun6766 18 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

Because THATS the most important thing right now

[–] brucethemoose 18 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

No, but it’s not unimportant.

As dystopian as it is, we are stuck with AI, and there are two futures:

  • Stagnant, earth burning, censored corporate APIs.

  • Open weight, power efficient, extensively community modified, locally or “swarm” run models.

And it really is urgent, because the later has a great fighting shot now, but funding/regulation dries up for it, it will never catch up again. Altman an the “AI bros” know this which is why they are pushing the AI danger angle so hard… so you can only by it from them.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 hours ago

It's simply a silver lining.

Frankly, I'm fine with Zuckerberg reading the room and doing what's needed. It shouldn't be what's needed, there's going to be huge blatant corruption under Trump. It's terrible that America has put itself in this situation. But America has put itself into this situation, here we are.

So if someone lobbying for something that's good has to suck up to Trump to get it done, that's unfortunate but at least something good gets done. The proper fix is to get Trump back out of power again and put a more reasonable government in its place. That won't be for a while, though, and it will require the DNC to read the room to accomplish it.
