Summary

Donald Trump plans to ban transgender individuals from military service shortly after his inauguration, reversing President Biden’s 2021 policy and expelling about 15,000 serving trans troops.

Critics, including advocacy groups and military experts, warn this move will exacerbate recruitment and retention challenges, harm unit cohesion, and create skill gaps amid existing shortfalls.

The order aligns with Trump’s broader anti-trans agenda, which includes banning gender-affirming care and restricting trans rights nationwide.

Legal challenges are anticipated as the military faces administrative and operational disruptions.

I just don't get it. Trans people can pull a trigger as well as anyone else. This is just hatred.

[–] Allonzee 29 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

This is just hatred

Yes, this is indeed America.

Every 2 years since Reagan, we get a vote for either Greed(D), or Greed+Hatred(R).

Greed+Hatred won this cycle. Not getting hatred as a result would be the confusing thing. A welcome confusing thing, but confusing nonetheless.

Don't forget that he is basically a Nazi

He needs to make them seem criminal and inhuman so he can use them as a distraction and scapegoat later, so he can get his fan base to attack them

[–] BrokenGlepnir 24 points 6 days ago

Hey! Let's send over 10k of the people we trained how to use weapons professionally home in a clearly discriminatory manner instead of letting them keep their jobs. That will do wonders for political stability.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Hopefully the discharge is honorable and their service helps them get a good civilian job where they are happy and accepted

[–] [email protected] 7 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

We'll be lucky if they get a dishonorable discharge, because the way the GOP stands now... a firing squad isn't out of the question.

I am disgusted by the world.

Fuck you Mace, Fuck you Elon, and FUCK YOU everyone who voted for Trump and signing my death warrant.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Elon ESPECIALLY hates trans people because his own trans kid disowned him

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago

I feel like it's not fair to have a vendetta against all Transpeople for that.

I mean Elon said "The Woke Mind Virus took [her] from me! {She's] my [daughter] damn it!"

and I'm like "Are you sure it was the Woke Mob? Are you sure it wasn't... you neglected and abused her, so she hates you?"

[–] Adulated_Aspersion 9 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Probably because the plan is to use the military to deport Trans people after he sates his thirst for deporting POC.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 6 days ago

As a PoC trans immigrant

Meme

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

does he know he can't deport anyone who wasn't ported? lol

[–] Ultraviolet 1 points 5 days ago

He wants to end birthright citizenship by pushing an ultraconservative interpretation of the 14th amendment through that basically says it only applied to people who were already born when it was ratified, so citizens who were born here can just be rendered stateless and thrown into camps.

Goodbye naval intelligence

Hate sells and America is buying

[–] IzzyScissor 11 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It's so strange how this same action could be attributed to him being an ally or even just a cuck.

"The trans community is a beacon of Hope that must be protected at all costs. Under no circumstances will I allow any trans person to fight or die for our country, as they are the ones our country should be protecting most."

That's exactly it! I knew I was pulling the idea from somewhere but couldn't remember where. Of course it was the Onion.

Regret joining the marines? Just wear a dress!

It didn't work for Corporal Klinger.

Whether it's trans people, gay people, or whatever, this is always going to happen to some population if the government is aware. Maybe not today, maybe not for a couple decades, but eventually. All you can do is hope to outlive it happening.

In the future it's going to be about your genetic data that people have been freely sharing.

[–] slickgoat 1 points 5 days ago

The ways things are trending he may, quite inadvertently, save their lives in doing so. This is a sad epoch we are living in.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

15,000? Is that density of trans people comparable to the density outside the Army?

[–] [email protected] 14 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Yeah.

According to this site: https://usafacts.org/articles/what-percentage-of-the-us-population-is-transgender/ about 1.14% of the US is trans.

And according to https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Armed_Forces there's about 1.328 million active duty armed forces in the US.

1.14% of 1.328 million would be 15,139, so 15,000 is pretty much exactly in line with the typical stats. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it is in fact an estimate based on such data, rather than there being a survey ready-to-go which identifies how many such service members there are.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 days ago

Makes total sense as an estimation. Thank you for the insight.

To be honest they have a history of switching sides... just a joke I heard take it easy! I dont know how I feel about this, I think it should be like anything else. Can you do the job well? if so then you belong in the military.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

You mean fair and antidiscriminatory?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago

I believe that the focus should be on an individual's capabilities and qualifications for the job, regardless of race, size, or color. What matters most is their ability to perform effectively

[–] snekerpimp 238 points 1 week ago (2 children)

These people care way too much about others people’s genitalia.

[–] [email protected] 85 points 1 week ago (6 children)

Seriously, pretty much all people I‘ve met who are offended by LGBTQ people have either suppressed desires or are really insecure about their own sexuality in some way.

It’s like that Hungarian minister who constantly attacked gay people until he was found by police at an illegal gay orgy in Brussels (illegal since it was during Covid lockdowns).

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

There's also some women that were so traumatised by experience with men that they are afraid trans women will attack women, and creeps will claim they are trans to elude punishment. I think this is a real problem, but much rarer than it may seem, and it's not a good enough reason to say that trans women don't/shouldn't exist. Maybe it's because I'm too privileged to understand

[–] [email protected] 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Please provide a source to 1 instance in the history of the world where an abuser used cross-dressing as the primary way to gain access to his victims...we'll wait.

Yes, people are scared of this. But, only bc GOP leaders tell them to be. It's a made up fear that cannot be legitimized like you are trying to do

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I'm not trying to legitimise anything, but when I try to convince such people, I usually fail, that's why I brought it up. Yes it's weaponising fear and it's the same irrational beliefs that make people racist or nazi, and a lot of other things, I think

Regarding the sources, I think it's stories like this or this that makes them worry, don't know if sources are credible, first one looks pretty fake.

nitpickbesides, I didn't say

used cross-dressing as the primary way

it can be opportunistic, not modus operandi, I only think that this is realistic because statistically speaking there are enough abusers on the planet so that at least some could try doing that

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago

Which cis woman was traumatized in either of those articles?

Private Bone Spurs is the Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. military for a second time now.

And I guarantee you if you asked a lot of the older MAGA what they thought of Bill Clinton, "draft dodger" would come up eventually.

I got out in 2017 partially because I'm trans and Trump was coming into the oval office. He had made it clear that trans people would not be welcome in his military, and I wasn't going to risk being discharged because of President Bone Spurs.

The military held him off last time, but I'm not as hopeful this time. And I just wanted to throw out there: I personally believe the GOP is going to use federal funding to essentially strip LGBTQ+ people of their rights and healthcare access. It's going to be the Minimum Federal Drinking Age Act of 1984 again, where the fed is gonna say, "Sure, you can offer gender affirming care in your state... If you do, you won't have access to XYZ federal funding anymore."

And the states will let it happen.

For anyone with any doubt about OP's comment, here's the current landscape for specifically anti-trans bills:

https://translegislation.com/

668 bills considered just this year. 1200 in the past two years. 84 national bills proposed this year. Tell me any minority in the history of the earth that has had this much legislation levied against them.

Next year the Republicans will be able to pass these bills carte blanche. It's looking bleak out there y'all
