!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

Why do you have Tux? It's the same reason. People like what they like, and as long as the PFP isn't explicit, let it ride.

[–] Holyginz 14 points 1 day ago

Because they like them. I was more involved in consuming anime when I was younger and it was just based on characters you liked for whatever reason. Some people go to more extremes than others but that's the same for any hobby.

Y'all have pfp?

[–] spankmonkey 67 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Same reason you put a penguin in yours.

They wanted to.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 2 days ago

I'm scandalized. It's naked!

Nope, it's Linux's mascot.

[–] someacnt_ 2 points 19 hours ago

Just wanted to say, the penguins in your profile are so cute!

[–] [email protected] 28 points 2 days ago

That's exactly what a weeb masquerading as a Linux nerd would say!

Same reason people put movie characters, game characters or dragons in there. Because they like them, one way or the other.

I seen people have anime girl pfps/banners but in their bio?

[–] XeroxCool 29 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Men have been using sexy bikini pic women in the bios long before lemmy. Look at any hobby forum like bodybuilding, car repair, guns, whatever.

[–] Anticorp 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The bikini avatars on bodybuilding forums was always very weird to me.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's to remind them what they are bodybuilding for. To fight the bikinigirl empire. Join the resistance, fight the oppressors!

[–] Anticorp 7 points 1 day ago

Ha! You had me in the first half.

[–] LouNeko 4 points 1 day ago

To make it obvious.

[–] [email protected] 31 points 2 days ago

Because they like it?

[–] Anticorp 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Idk, but it's even weirder when they put a giant one on the sides and hood of their car.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Talking about itashas?

[–] [email protected] 21 points 2 days ago

I suspect if you ask them who their bio pic is, you will get a very long explanation of who they are and why they like them.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 days ago (3 children)

People tend to make their bio pic something they would like to fuck. Nice bio pic btw.

[–] rob_t_firefly 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My pic is myself, so... I have no further argument and forget I said anything.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

ooh im going to use your pick. jk. maybe.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 days ago

Tux makes nerds go wild

Because they like something about it.

I picked mine for nostalgia, but I like Earnest P. Worrell because he's always making some [overly complicated invention]https://youtu.be/uYMw_dlnVH0?feature=shared) that didn't need to exist, and he switches between multiple characters depending on the situation. I also like his grandiosity, integrity, and drive to do what he thinks is right. He remains positive in difficult situations, and I like his energy.

I'm old, so I grew up watching this.

Because why not?
